I think the worst part is that they could not distinguish between literal shell shock that caused internal brain bleeds and affected victims like a stroke by interupting signals from the brain to body parts and ptsd which was mental problems from dealing with traumatic events, manifested in physical disability or behavior. Some men would have both,

i forgot the name of a soldier who went through shell shock but he had such a bad psychological breakdown that he convinced himself that he was paralyzed, even thought he wasn't.
