Not really, am level 150 and 170 and I never run, I die and try again til I know in my mind what works best with melee.....running isn't needed and you don't need to do it in this game a lot, lol. Being so afraid of dying and making mistakes is what makes people not realize and resolve problems to achieve victory over the issues that we run into, it's like running into a brick wall, so you don't hop over it or destroy it, but you keep throwing rocks at it from the distance until it crumbles..
There's a much easier way to do this. Lure him to the stairwell where the cling ring is located. Its the steps with two barrels at the top before the blue knight. Do not destroy the barrels.Have him chance you to that stairwell run pass the barrels and wait for him come after you. Face him at an angle towards the barrels on the walkway with the hand hold he will fall to his doom.
Oh... I just now noticed that this is a video of the red eyes knight, the one with the spear on the corner rampart of the castle. Good idea for defeating him. Good source of soul too!

There's too time consuming. Just level yourself up and eventually you can defeat him very easily.
