  • Haha I thought this was a rx7 at first. I didn't read the title and was barely looking at my computer screen.

  • can someone tell me if new Speed3 is reliable car or i should stay away from them ? thx

  • U guys should goto ur local mazda dealership. They know what's wrong with it. In fact, the warranty repair for this problem is being extended to 7 year 70k miles from purchase date. How do I know this? I work for a mazda dealership.

  • own 2007 new , after 35k or yrs into, smoke problem appear occasionlly. Drive in different manner try to eliminate the possiblities. after long period of drive in city condition stop & go , or excessive driving . they say turbo in the MZR burn quite a bit of oil, that's the nature of this design. When in city cuz from stop & go engine run on high rev to pickup speed, which make u keep the engine run at high rev in a repeating manner than highway , that case gas & oil mix rich, create smokey

  • So was it the oil seals of turbo? PCV? rings?

    Cheers.

  • Your engines are going to blow and you can kiss your warranties good bye. The MS3 engines are a piece of crap. i have a 2010 MS3 thats all stock and my motor blew at 35mph. with 34,000 miles on it. so just to let you know, the motor(MZR)is crap.

  • mines doing the same thing it smells like its coolent but it could be the turbo seal, hope not maybe i should install a catch can and a bov to see it it helps right not ive got the stock recirculation valve vented to atmosphere and i can here blow off before i let off the gas so its def not stopping the spool and im loosing some psi

  • Have u put a straight through exhaust on it? Have u took the cat off? because some turbo engines do not like the lack of back pressure, over here in the uk they put a twin oil seal inside the turbo to componsate the loss of pressure, thats wat mine needed

  • i have a 07 ms3 and my smoke started appearing 2 years ago. Now i have a injen C.A.I. and a HKS blow off valve and its been smoking up more now and it smells BAD. it looks like youre smoke. When i idol it comes out alot and when i drive it spits out like alot too. Is this the same problem as yours? because i wanna get rid of it too. My engine check light turns on every once in a while and i checked it, it said EMISSION LEAKAGE. Does anyone know how to fix this without having to go to the dealer?

  • have 2 speeds . bought one brand new ..other used. always ran mobile1 10-30 full syn never smoked. the second one started smoking (oil smoke) from turbo .I changed oil with mobile1 10-30 and after about 5 days it stopped smoking. I still get condensation smoke on colder days but thats from dp,tp, exhaust with no restiction. so It might help to try a diff oil for your next change. jus my 2 cents good luck

  • was this right after installing the down pipe? cause thats normal for a brand new exhaust to smoke from the new seals.

  • damn. at least you're still under warranty.

  • You need to get a tune running that down pipe I Chose to skip out on the down pipe to avoid these types of problems I'm just running the Hks cat back and a test pipe/race pipe I havent had a problem yet but If you plan on really getting serious with these cars you will run into all sorts of tuning issues and its mainly because of fuel delivery direct injection plagues these motors.

  • I had the exact same problem, the dealer said that has been a common issue. They replaced the turbo compleatly and it hasn't had that problem again in the last 15000 miles.

  • Consider yourself lucky. Several people on the mazda BB's have had their turbo replaced (including me twice) and the smoke continued.

The oil feed restrictor bolts being on Ebay and PTP has a PCV fix. Both have shown significant reduction in smoke in nearly all installs and most have no smoke remaining at all.

  • its just steam. the 'turbo smoking issue' happens when 2 conditions are present: 5w30 oil is used in severe service (high heat, lots of spool), downpipe installed but stock turbo inlet pipe still present. If you do the downpipe, it's highly recommended you do the inlet pipe as well, or pressures will be VERY uneven between the compressor and the turbine side, causing axial forces against the turbo spindle, which allows thinner-than-ideal oil (albeit 'recommended) to pass through the baffle seal.

  • No, it's not steam at all. It's oil smoke (very stinky oil smoke at that). The stock PCV system sucks on these cars, which overpressurizes the crankcase, and it only seems to happen at idle.

Myself, I went after the oil feed side to lower pressure down by installing a restrictor bolt. I had tried a catch can and it didn't work for me to cure the oil smoke show, but I kept it because it is working to keep the INSANE amount of fuel out of the oil. 1.5% fuel on my last UOA compared to .6% after.

  • Forgot to mention, until the restrictor, my car smoked using 5-40 oil, catch can with second PCV. Other mods are BNMotorsports ported throttle body, Speedie6 inlet, TurboXS DP/RP, BNMotorsports air/water intercooler, and BNMotorsports budget ram intake.

  • just to let everyone know i installed an oil catch can and low and behold...no more smoke. thats not to say that the seals wont go bad sooner or later, but ill cross that bridge when i come to it.

  • PULLEN you mentioned that smoking occurs more during vacuum than higher RPMs. my exhaust only smokes when im at idol and very low RPMs. The smoke disappears once I begin driving normally. I know this because I had a friend follow me and the only time it smokes is at idol and one nice puff of wispy whitish smoke when I hit the throttle at a stopped position. Thats it.

  • Also it wouldnt be smoking after 10 minutes of idling if this was a PCV issue, It would only do it alittle after a rev or load then would stop after a minute or two.

    Hope this helps!

  • Looks like a seal issue. PCV wouldnt be as much with low revs and would not do it more when revving. PCV opens with more vacuum, so if you put a load on the engine or boost and its smoking, then you have a seal issue. PCV would be after you let off the gas only when the engine gets more under vacuum.

  • it looks like it just rained in the video...if thats the case thats normal...wait till its really dry out and see if it's still smoking...

  • hmm, sdc1213 said it perfectly, but imo it looks like more of a seal problem

  • Yea, i had the same issue with my speed 3 when I installed my CPE turboback. Of course MazdaUSA voided my powertrain warranty because they figured the downpipe was the culprit, so I bought an Infiniti and never looked back.

  • I don't think it's a PCV issue. It could be a problem between running extremely rich and lack of cat causing the whitish smoke. Those K04 turbo seals tend to need a little bit of backpressure to function properly and when you run an unrestrictive exhaust it tends to make the seals go bad. Are you smelling any type of burning oil in the exhaust? I'm sure it's hard to tell since you're not running a cat, but the next step you may need is a proper tune to figure out your air fuel curves.
