did you tighten the head bolts down to 75ft lb because factory specs lead to premature head gasket failure. I've heard that the 75 ft lbs with some of that copper spray is a pretty perm. fix
Congratz you've started a wave of 1st gens doing exactly what you did with a 7m. how is youre trannsmission doin btw? last i seen posted was it had some issues u had to work out...
The swap was not too bad.... and nope, there is nothing in the driveline that is factory. Mopar rear axle, custom made driveshaft, and r154 supra trans. If you do a google search for 7mgte 1977 celica, then I am sure you can find my entire build thread where I detailed the entire swap step by step. check out 1stgencelica(dot)com or xceedspeed(dot)com for the most up to date posts. If you have any questions just let me know
thats pretty awesome... i might swap out my 7m-ge in my 86 supra... it will be the same engine just lower miles. and while its not turbo'd, i will be able to have the same satisfaction you guys had haha
no custom mounting at all, I used mounts off of a 5m, then theat bolted right up to the front of the 7m (with 1/4 inch worth of spacers becasue its slightly too narrow) and to the factory engines lower mounts.... which all bolts in right to the perfect spot, no mods.
becasue of the cost and ease of putting it in honestly..... I didnt have to make custom engine mounts or anyhting, a lot of trial and error..... In the end it was not that hard to do the 7M and there is PLENTY of power, the 1J is a hard motor to get parts (in the US) for and much more expensive :(
@speedfreak426 i love how every one say the 7m like head gaskets. true... but heres the solution... new metal head gasket arp head studs and torque them nice and snug at 65 or 70. and guess what problem is gone unless you over heat it
7m's won't necessarily kill headgaskets, all you have to do is get a mhg, I would go stopper type if you are running a lot of power, and retorque the head, that should solve the problem, search up on supra forums like supramania and you should be able to find some step by step instructions on how to do it right
@sturomain the 1jz is more powerful stock because its a twin turbo....once you start modding slightly the 7m picks up the slack much much better than the 1jz... especially since its 3L, not to mention the 7m sounds better and meaner, and with specific tunes will easily produce massive amounts of torque over HP
Hey I have a 73 ra21 celica st. I really want to put this motor and trans. in as well. What did you have to do to get that sucker in there? How much did it cost you.
Was the head gasket changed to a metal one cause this motor likes to go thru them.

how budy. just wondering how you mounted this in. you say you didnt need to make custom mounts?

just wondering why the 7mgte and not a
1jzgte. my 7m likes headgaskets. the 1j is way more powerful, just a better motor. im sure you now this already.

Because the 7m blots right in with minimal mods.... the 1j, not so much
