Nice lesson Adam, remember the 10,000 hour rule: 10,000 hours to mastery. That's an hour a day for 27 years. Surrendered patience to the process is the greatest lesson harmonica playing has ever taught me.
Picked up your lessons on mercy mercy mercy tonight! Couldn't resist that song just gets me. So glad you had some non blues things out there! Hopefully I'll catch ya in Philly soon.
i have seen paul many times, he is a master of changing harps in the middle of a song. he sometimes plays 2-4 harps on the same song, so its hard to tell what he is doing sometimes because of this.
good pep talk , the Buckinghams covered this tune they also had some more Hits around 1967or so "KIND OF A DRAG" Susan" and onemore called' Dont You Care'.im a guitar player and I have a friend named David Brown who grew up with Stevie Ray Vaughn In Oak Cliff he told me a story of how SRV would turn his back to them when he did a solo so they couldn't see what he was doing I thought that was really funny this was back when they both were in school .
Hey Adam. I would love (and I think others will do the same) if you did a lesson for Groovy People, one of your greater songs, at least for me. I can play the first part, but after mister Satan starts singing is very hard to understand what you are playing there, as the amplified tone is not very strong in that cut. Well i hope that you read this at least. Cheers, and thanks!
Adam, as always your videos have words of wisdom. I think it was you or Jason in one of your videos that said,"It is not the years you have been playing, it's the hours." Adam, thank you again for all your help and I practice everyday because of you.
Oh, one more thing, love the Adam and Dave sound. Great music!!!!!!
I think no matter how much you stress the fact that hard work is the key to success, you're always going to have people coming to you because you've made yourself accessible.
I admire you for showing how hard you work at it; I'm embarassed if I don't make it look easy.
Paul is a monster! He has been one of my inspirations for years...took a few lessons from him way back when. This album is awesome. Thanks for featuring him.
Mr Adam gussow...thanks for teaching us all how to fly then kicking our asses out to the world! , i'm sure you have a loooot more to show us, but hey, who says we can't do it ourselves very slowly jajaja, thanks again, for all your devotion, good luck!
I heard Paul do this song live in Dallas on July 3, and it sounded as good as the cd , which I own. Paul is an incredible harp player. I have had the privelage
of Paul giving me a couple of harp lessons, and he has so much knowledge about the harp. Thanks for posting this video, because he does not get the recognition that he deserves
Thanks Adam. I'm struggling big time but I'm not going to give up. I didn't learn how to prepare taxes or do financial statements overnight either, but I'm damn good at it now.
Exactly. Have a one-month plan, a six-month plan, a one-year plan, and a five-year plan for improvement. Six months is basically the horizon. Then work on your stuff every day, record what you do, play it back in the evening or on the weekend, figure out what's working, what's new, what's lame, etc. Over time, you'll lift your game..
i always refrain from sending you a pm just because i know if i google a phrase/artist/piece of terminology i can usually find what i'mm looking for, more often than not on youtube. I agree that it takes hard work. Any instument does.
I learnt to juggle to a fairly good standard just by watching others juggle on the internet and then trying stuff out over and over again. If i couldn't do a trick i would find a website that had information.
This is turning into a rant but if i teach someone how to juggle they always expect the results with a few hours rather then days, months and years.
I even found after watching various videos on youtube about how to bend i couldn't do it. I knew the theory but it wasn't happening. I sat on bed and tried just tried different things for several hours but i knew when i'd hit the note. If someone said i can just give you the skill and you could play harp like i pro, i would decline. Hard work.
Exactly what I think. (about the end of the video)
The more I work, the more I realize how much more there is ahead, but the more I'm hooked so I keep on. I have been sweating *so* much the past months, doing the same as you did at the end with the metronome, which is how I got Whammer Jammer to whatever level I managed to, in that video. Thanks to people like you how made me understand the value of hard, persistent work... I didn't post after 3 months from starting out, though, but 2 years :)

Some band in the 60's put some lyrics to this! do you remember who?
Timrose89 2 years ago
Several jazz singers do that. Ernestine Anderson has a particularly nice version. Marlena Shaw may also have a version.

Bet you're thinking of The Buckinghams, 1967.
