i grew up with a german shepherd :) when i was 2 years old we got a white german shepherd puppy we grew up together she was my best friend she was the biggest ddog on my block theres a lot of boys on my block every time they picked on my my big doggie would come running i miss her i hope your kid and your dog grow up together for a long time

I loved watching this! I grew up the same way, and best friend is so right! I have never been without a German Shepherd--because of the very first one I had as a little child. Your daughter is a lucky child to have you for a parent--to give her such a friend.
I had sheperds when my children were small. They wouldn't take anything from the babies hands. They would point their heads to the floor, like saying put it down. Precious video!
just adorable!...the best dog I've ever had was a stray German Shep/wolf mix. She showed us unconditional love her whole life. We never knew how old she really was but she lived a happy, healthy life. Shepherds are THE best dogs!
Is he a Police dog he seems so well trained and I know that when you are an officer your dog comes home with you everyday and he seems very high breed :)

I had a German Shepherd as well, Candy, only 4 years old when she was poisoned. I still can't believe it, I'm a month away to go back home after a year being overseas I wanted to see her again but they took her away from me. This video parts my heart apart. Thanks for sharing!

This is absolutely adorable. So sweet. German Shepherds are easily the best breed I've come across. We had one for ten years and just had to put her down due to severe degenerative myelopathy. She was the best dog, and so smart and so gentle and protective of not only our family, but of children in general.
Seeing a video like this makes me hope that I'll eventually have another GSD even half as amazing as she was and as Ace is. It seems to run in the breed.

my mom has a cat and she just had little kitns, the dog is so amazing with them he is like the dad, he cleans them al day when they were little, their like 2 months old now, and he is watching for them allways. all dogs can be amazing and protective, it depends on the owners.

Great video, some great photo's in it too, your GSD is so good with your daughter, i have a bc and two nephews, and they get on well too, one is just crawling and pulling on Holly's fur she lets him, can't understand why he can't play yet though!.
The key to owning a wonderful GSD like this one is good breeding and socialization. You need to bring them everywhere as pups from little league,soccer games,walks, any-where there is people ,noise and other dogs. I have owned 5 in my life-time(so far) and all were perfect gentleman-great video!!!!
So cute! Dog is mans best friend- from an early age! There was a german shepherd around when I was a baby; he was a fantastic dog who looked after me and I loved. Thats probably why GSD's are my favorite breed. They are truely fantastic dogs!
@bizreply14029 Although I am not a German Shepherd breeder I feel that I can answer your question. German Shepherds are extremely intelligent, loyal, and protective among many other things. I'm 99.9999% positive that German Shepherds do fine with children, adults, and other dogs. But like any other dog they need to be social with the child.
Hi Acemom, some people have asked what is the best way to introduce a GS to a new baby?. On the Spanish Youtube one couple gave a great demonstration. The GS is named Can Kanto. The videos are very touching and like your family there is clearly a lot of love there. I think you and others will enjoy it.

I have 3 full grown sheps, huge dogs, and my mom always drops off my little brother each morning at my place cause both she and my dad work (Im a teacher so I have summers off). My sheps take wonderful care of him, and sometimes I feel like they are the ones doing the babysitting. Also, my best friend just had a baby, and she has a shep who does whatever she asks him to do for the baby, like bring the diaper, sleep with her, etc.
@bizreply14029 German shepards are actually very good around kids, since they are good family dogs. Just gotta train em well. After that they will protect them like they are there own kids.
@bizreply14029 GSD's (in general) are very loyal protective and smart which make them great police dogs, but they also are really good with children. They were bred to be herding animals after all and depending on personality they can be very good baby sitters and love children. you do have to train them and keep them active so they don't end up getting bored, they will figure out things to keep themselves busy and not in the way you want them to.

@bizreply14029 It's a common misconception that German Shepherds are not good with kids. German Shepherds are great family dogs and in fact their bond is often times stronger with the child of the family. We own a GSD and she's very good to our 9 year old son. GSD's often become very protective of children. In my opinion, they're by far the most intelligent breed around.
@bizreply14029 I have had many GSD's from a variety of breeders and all of them have been great with kids. My current dog plays with an autistic boy in the neighborhood and the child just lights up!

@bizreply14029 GSD is the best breed in my opinion and most favorite. i had a GSD for about 2 years that wasnt even mine but sadly he passed away in May which upset me and im still not over it. I loved him so much that i have a scar from when he died never heals or will heal. A month before he died another dog pit bull border collie mix died and same deal. the death of the GSD opened the wound deeper that it came a forever scar. I loved them
@bizreply14029 All dogs, no matter what breed or lineage, are capable of gentleness and/or aggression, it's just the larger ones when aggressive are far more dangerous... and so you hear about them more... Dogs, like humans, are born with lo to hi energy levels, and a natural pack rank (natural leaders, supporters or followers) and these set the stage for how easy it is to train and work with behavior. The credit belongs to Ace's owners, who are obviously excellent pack leaders! Cudos to you!

There is no "bad breed for children", all dogs are a potent threat for anyone, not only children if you don't show them love and care just as you would for human beings, LOL ! @bizreply14029 Gsd's are protectors, mine is extremely protective of me and my immediate family, its what they do. With the right training they are some of the kindest yet most protective dogs there are.
@bizreply14029 GSDs in general don't attack family, especially if they are well trained. They are very loyal and protective dogs and you will not witness the slightest form of aggression from them manifested towards family and friends. The child can grab their fur or play with them and the GSD will never react defensively, just pull back if he is uncomfortable. However, they are excellent protection dogs so anyone who is thinking breaking an entry in a home with a GSD should think twice.
@bizreply14029 We've owned several GSD's. The males have invariably been wonderful with children and very gentle with babies. The females, we've had to watch.

I had Ace for almost 2 years before my daughter was born so I thought he might be jealous. I introduced them slowly, not allowing him to get TOO close in the beginning but then always reassured him and gave him attention too. He barked at her when he first met her and I instantly corrected it. Trust your instincts....Some dogs do GREAT, others not so great....It took Ace about 2 years before he was completely comfortable around ALL small children. Good Luck! :-)

So cute! Dog is mans best friend- from an early age! There was a german shepherd around when I was a baby; he was a fantastic dog who looked after me and I loved. Thats probably why GSD's are my favorite breed. They are truely fantastic dogs!

@bizreply14029 Although I am not a German Shepherd breeder I feel that I can answer your question. German Shepherds are extremely intelligent, loyal, and protective among many other things. I'm 99.9999% positive that German Shepherds do fine with children, adults, and other dogs. But like any other dog they need to be social with the child.

Hi Acemom, some people have asked what is the best way to introduce a GS to a new baby?. On the Spanish Youtube one couple gave a great demonstration. The GS is named Can Kanto. The videos are very touching and like your family there is clearly a lot of love there. I think you and others will enjoy it.

@bizreply14029 Its not about the dog, its about the owner. I have 3 full grown sheps, huge dogs, and my mom always drops off my little brother each morning at my place cause both she and my dad work (Im a teacher so I have summers off). My sheps take wonderful care of him, and sometimes I feel like they are the ones doing the babysitting. Also, my best friend just had a baby, and she has a shep who does whatever she asks him to do for the baby, like bring the diaper, sleep with her, etc.

@bizreply14029 German shepards are actually very good around kids, since they are good family dogs. Just gotta train em well. After that they will protect them like they are there own kids.

@bizreply14029 GSD's (in general) are very loyal protective and smart which make them great police dogs, but they also are really good with children. They were bred to be herding animals after all and depending on personality they can be very good baby sitters and love children. you do have to train them and keep them active so they don't end up getting bored, they will figure out things to keep themselves busy and not in the way you want them to.

@bizreply14029 It's a common misconception that German Shepherds are not good with kids. German Shepherds are great family dogs and in fact their bond is often times stronger with the child of the family. We own a GSD and she's very good to our 9 year old son. GSD's often become very protective of children. In my opinion, they're by far the most intelligent breed around.

@bizreply14029 I have had many GSD's from a variety of breeders and all of them have been great with kids. My current dog plays with an autistic boy in the neighborhood and the child just lights up!

@bizreply14029 I think its all about training we have a GSD and he is very protectiv but also very loving you just have to train them not to be agressive. I will never have any other breed of dog and believe me they are very very smart! Good luck they do well with kids as long as you train them they will listen and know

@bizreply14029 GSD is the best breed in my opinion and most favorite. i had a GSD for about 2 years that wasnt even mine but sadly he passed away in May which upset me and im still not over it. I loved him so much that i have a scar from when he died never heals or will heal. A month before he died another dog pit bull border collie mix died and same deal. the death of the GSD opened the wound deeper that it came a forever scar. I loved them

@bizreply14029 All dogs, no matter what breed or lineage, are capable of gentleness and/or aggression, it's just the larger ones when aggressive are far more dangerous... and so you hear about them more... Dogs, like humans, are born with lo to hi energy levels, and a natural pack rank (natural leaders, supporters or followers) and these set the stage for how easy it is to train and work with behavior. The credit belongs to Ace's owners, who are obviously excellent pack leaders! Cudos to you!

@bizreply14029 Are you kidding me? GSD's not good with kids? Man, I grew up with GSD's and have them now with my kids. They are an awesome family breed. Terrifically smart. Smart enough to know when to be aggressive and when not to. Dogs are a pack animal, if they live in a house with kids, they consider them part of the pack.
IMO you can't go wrong with shepards.

There is no "bad breed for children", all dogs are a potent threat for anyone, not only children if you don't show them love and care just as you would for human beings, LOL ! And sheesh, from all the dog breeds you think German shepherds are bad! @bizreply14029 Gsd's are protectors, mine is extremely protective of me and my immediate family, its what they do. With the right training they are some of the kindest yet most protective dogs there are.

@bizreply14029 GSDs in general don't attack family, especially if they are well trained. They are very loyal and protective dogs and you will not witness the slightest form of aggression from them manifested towards family and friends. The child can grab their fur or play with them and the GSD will never react defensively, just pull back if he is uncomfortable. However, they are excellent protection dogs so anyone who is thinking breaking an entry in a home with a GSD should think twice.

I had Ace for almost 2 years before my daughter was born so I thought he might be jealous. I introduced them slowly, not allowing him to get TOO close in the beginning but then always reassured him and gave him attention too. He barked at her when he first met her and I instantly corrected it. Trust your instincts....Some dogs do GREAT, others not so great....It took Ace about 2 years before he was completely comfortable around ALL small children. Good Luck! :-)
