  • lol, by accident I removed my only top comment on youtube, what irony! :D

    so, then again...

"thumbs up if you know about this performance from watching Family guy".

    - now I'm saying it like a retard specially for the ones who replied to me with irrelevant comments.

Now I'm not getting any more likes. You satisfied?

  • Brass balls and he pulled it off. There are no characters like this anymore.

  • This video makes smoking cool again.

  • This is timeless and timely. Well done Mr. Shatner.

  • WS is one great lounge singer! He needs to go on tour! Here's another cool lounge singer in L.A. ck him out. Sonny Moon.

    search

    cinnamon doll nutty

  • I don't want to do it... But the mouse keeps going back to the thumbs up button...

  • The worst, egomaniacal, hamboat, over-the-top, misguided "performance" of all time. His delivery, underneath all the bs, is actually terrible, among other travesties.

  • Cool, but still not as good as the original. Stewie Griffin, of course

  • @manman101093 I totally didn't know Stewie Griffin was about in the 70s.

  • When I think of people who have become a parody of themselves, I think Shatner.

  • Person 1: How can he perform a spoken-word version of a song?

Person 2: He found a way.....

  • Shatner just ejaculated awesome all over my computer screen

  • i love this, not really singing or smoking but pretending to do both

  • Shatner rules

    this is a classic!!!

  • thumbs up if you know this from futurama

  • I can never watch startrek (original) the same again.

  • Oh i love stewie and this song go elton

  • Thank you Mr.Shatner, for restoring my faith in humanity.

  • I DON'T GET IT o_O

  • misterhumble, your post was brilliant and insightful. I'm going to post it on my fridge, and reword it for my own encounters with narcissists. You saved me. Well done, sir. Well done.

  • Love it. So much.

And it's still relevant: It's like Lou Reed and Metallica got really stoned, listened to this, and then Lou turned to Lars and James and said "Guys... I have an idea..."

  • Hey Bill they are all laughing at you, not with you.

  • @KnottsDan whoo check your self that is Kirk the original. I suppose you were more into Picard tho it would figure.

  • *not

  • THATS NIT SINGING HES TALKING lolololol

  • I'm so grateful for the Internet. That we could share a masterpiece like this with the entire world... :')

  • It's so cheesy that it makes it amazing. Can't stop listening to it. And it's better that Elton's performance too.

  • I think this is amazing, but I'm also able to laugh at it because WIlliam Shatner was terrible as Cpt. Kirk.

  • @KnottsDon We are also able to laugh at you because you are retarded. James Tiberius Kirk FTW!

  • @jugdaddy69 Shit the fuck up. Even VOY is better that TOS. Jean-Luc Picard FTW!

  • Hahahahahahahaha...

  • This is great! It reminds me of Andy Kaufman's cover of Mighty Mouse...weird...wonderful. So many have mocked Shatner's acting over the years, but he is a unique talent and I've always enjoyed his projects immensely.

  • i think he knows its crazy, and hes just so badass that he does it anyways for the laughs.

  • How could the audience not burst out laughing?

  • @TheAbsoluTurk They were all stoned.

  • amazing

  • Shatner is hilarious!

  • A ROCKET, MAN.

  • No I think he's ALREADY high as a kite...

  • So just sit down and SPEAK song lyrics while "looking cool" ? Um just no

  • I'd like to hear Schatner perform "Today Was a Good Day" by Ice Cube

  • burin up my fuse up here alone

  • cheap colone

  • corny

  • I think we can close the book on, "The Greatest Youtube Clip of All-Time".

  • Horrible. Elton John FTW.

  • "I'M A ROCK! - IT! - MAN!"

  • like if your a rocket man and reply in one day for a week about how high in sky i am in likes.

  • @rockandre200 No.

  • @Drummerboy554466 why not

  • This is great. Stop hating youtube. It is classic Shatner. Bravo!

  • It takes a certain kind of talent to suck the universal goodness out of a song and replace it with narcissistic ridiculousness

  • The man is genius!

  • he's rockin it

  • FAMILY GUY

  • FA

  • Thia is stupid! I would have scream BOOOO!!!!

  • Such bad editing...

  • @heystupidopenthedoor its 1978.

  • @Wrestlemania24444 I realize. For 1978 even, such bad editing...

  • Comment removed

  • @nuttytiger87 Iyoutube search 'interview with an alien grey commander kulzack part 1' ...its hilarious

  • @nuttytiger87 nope, knew it before.

  • @nuttytiger87 No, dont even. I know this from knowing it.

  • @nuttytiger87 THIS isn't from Family Guy. That scene from Family Guy is from THIS.

  • @LucasRidesBikes I said "know this from", not "know that this is from". Get it? ;)

  • @nuttytiger87 You "accidentally removed it". I would have believed you, had i not read your comment several times before posting mine just to make sure I myself wasn't stupid. You deleted it just because you stated it incorrectly. Nice try.

  • this shyt goes hard!!

  • You guys are kinda tough on James T Kirk

  • Family guy does it better!

  • What the fuck ;/

  • Shatner is twice the man today that he was in 1978. Actually, he's more like four times the man...

  • Elton John could get piss drunk and still sing better than this tuxedo' douche bag.

  • WOW that is the good stuff

  • Stupid stupid singer

  • Sucksdick

  • William Shatner you weird pausing for effect motherfucker i love you

  • @queef76 I couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @triplex3399 actually contradictory to popular belief "hell" used to be freezing cold, and purgatory was the place that was scorching, the idea was purgatory burned off all of your sins, and hell forced you to stay with your sins

  • Thumbs up if family guy's Stewie's rendition of Rocketman makes sense now!

  • @Time2LiveL1fe Typical of Family Guy public that, unlike the normal person, they actually see the pop-culture reference before the pop-culture itself, then feel as though figuring it out is some great achievement. Reality check: everyone except you already knew about this.

  • @uliekmudkipz This is one of the very few "pop-culture" references that I wasn't aware of. I apologise profusely to your over-rated ego as the know-it-all master of the subject. Perhaps I've just been too busy living what's called a "life" while you've been living your sad and miserable existence picking faults with minor things such as me never seeing this clip before. Reality check: You're a moron.

  • @Time2LiveL1fe Thanks, your response certainly made my day livelier. I guess all I can say is mission accomplished!

  • @Time2LiveL1fe

what's ironic (and actually quite pathetic) is that he probably imagines us being impressed, when he's just showing us what a douche he is.

  • @PJinBston

im willing to bet that the majority of idiots who watch family guy dont even understand the reference,. which is why the writers have been using popular youtube vids. fucking useless public.

  • @uliekmudkipz

... isn't that right? You great big douche.

  • Im not so sure that "cigarett" has just tobacco in it...

  • Somebody shoot me. Please.

  • @jrregan Head, or center of the chest?

  • this shit is funny

  • a true gentleman

  • @triplex3399 you clearly aren't familiar with the divine comedy or it's contents, like Dante's Inferno

  • More intensity !

  • I pity anyone who cannot recognize the brilliance of this. How sad it must be inside your poor little minds.

  • @perhael How do you think it's brilliant?

  • @perhael stfu....I Don't get it...what do you think I'm pathetic just because I don't LIKE the song? We all have different tastes in music and this is kind of stupid on my opinion. And BTW.....William Shatner, his last name reminds me of Shat (Shit) and thats what I think of this.....its shit.

  • @8478275 U mad?

  • @perhael I pity anyone who cannot recognize the hilarity of this. How dull it must be inside your poor little minds!

  • @Lordofcookiejars Oh, I absolutely agree. I never said it wasn't hilarious!

  • @Guigley THESE SONGS WERE NOT DONE INTENTIONALLY BAD. SHATNER WAS SERIOUS. Unless he's Andy Kaufman 7 years before anyone knew Andy Kaufman. This ritter89 person has created multiple YouTube accounts and given his fantastical bulls**t thumbs up.

  • seriously? ...

  • The Elton John version was better.

  • @TheUnluckyKitty Gee... ya think!

  • this is awesome

  • I think Shatner's "cover" of "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds" is one of the worst things I've ever heard. I don't care if it was intentionally bad; it's just audio cancer, pure and simple.

  • @Guigley yeah some of the covers he made were really bad. this is one of the few of them that were awesome. this and his more recent bohemian rhapsody are just funny to watch.

  • Shatner is just awesome.

  • The first part hurt my ear

  • Greatest video ever.

  • 2:45 hell isn't cold.....

  • .....The hell was Karen Black doing on science fiction awards?

  • how far ca n u you take it, best stuff ever ecosse

  • Few things knock me onto the ground laughing... Shatner singing, is one of those.

  • What the hell was he smoking? lol

  • God he's insane

  • The live audience had no idea of the greatness they were beholding!

  • You know what's sad?

The family guy parody of this has more views than what its parodying

Sometimes, I just want to destroy humanity, you know?

  • @TheHeatfran It's not even a parody. It's just ... the same thing. But a cartoon. That's not parody, it's plagiarism.

  • @suxcawks nope. its a parody.

  • @suxcawks ....no thats actually a parody. plagiarism would have been if they had redone it the same way and claimed to have created it. the stewie griffin version was poking fun at shatner.

  • Absolutely... the best....damn....video....ever.

  • wait wait dont tell me brought me here

  • Why is it that I can't sit through this without getting up and expressing my emotions through interpretive dance?

  • flawless

  • Is he toking up?

  • Elton JOOOOOOOHHHHHN!

  • The songs dead Jim.

  • @nepht1979 best comment all day LOL

  • Family Guy brought me here

  • What amazes me most about this is the absolute silence of the audience. If this were today, Bill wouldn't have gotten two words out without some self-centered ass screaming 'yeah!' or worse, 'wooooo!'

    The silence is amazing.

  • @GrissomLovesSara Man you are entirely right. Right on the money.

  • i shatnered bricks

  • I like him, unlike other idiots who can't sing; he doesn't actually sing-- assuming he can't sing. He speaks it out; to show his emotions towards it.

  • They should have used Shatner's version of Rocket Man at the end of rolling credits of the remastered Star Trek episodes.

  • Whos Thinks Stewie Griffen Is better

  • @mexicanparty911 Not me

  • That's a lot of smoke for just a plain cigarette...

  • @ZackMyslinski HAHA! I KNOW, HUH!!

  • Amazing

  • wonder who won that award...

  • KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

  • *smokes weed* And I'm gonna be HIGH!

Long live and prosper to the Shat!

  • i bet he won the best fantasy film award too. And present it too as a fine "actor and actress"

  • why is everyone saying this is awful i like it lol

  • Now I wish I was dead. Why for the love of God did I watch this?! Why?!

  • Taupin didn't even say sung by, he said interperted by. Even he knew it was garbage, I bet he was crying during rehearsal... nvm I doubt you could rehease this gem.

  • *inhales deeply* "And I'm gonna be HIGH as a kite by then!" Yeeaahh!!!! lol Great performance to be able to sing such a line with a straight face.

I've always loved the original Elton John/Bernie Taupin version of Rocket Man , but this is something else!

  • Omfg this just fucking made my day! Especially at 2:17.

  • wtf was in that cigarette, and where can i get some???

  • wow.

  • It's so utterly painful to watch but I just can't seem to look away.

  • This is the greatest thing I've ever seen, EVER.

  • The Shat is awesome!

  • ROOOOOCKKKKETTT MMAAANNN!

  • Top notch!

  • He's smoking weed, right?

  • Inorder to do this cover correctly a few things are needed first you must get high, perhaps even on stage,....thats it :)

  • If he could only do this on ice.

  • i like stewies version better

  • Jesus Christ. This is so bad.

  • @Arglactable That's the point

  • He should win an Oscar and a grammy for this.

  • @dresetic; He should get a Nobel Peace Prize for his upcoming album, "Seeking Major Tom".

  • I'm a ROCK, it, MAN.

  • @jordanafrank rocket man is based on a raybradbury short story about an astronaut on different planets who misses his wife.

  • Apparently, audiences from 30 yrs ago are as dense as they are today. In '68, Shatner released an entire album of material featuring dramatic interpretations of popular song lyrics (The Transformed Man). It was an intentionally humorous project that flew over the heads of humorless critics who reviewed it as a serious work. Like the audience members, the critics overlooked the fact that Shatner's tongue was always planted firmly in cheek (which says alot more about them than it does about him)

  • @ritter89 You've got to be kidding. Shatner was a notorious prick with a huge ego.

Everyone on Star Trek hated his guts. He was certainly not known for his humor.

Chris Elliott knew the whole inside story and was spot-on.

Shame on you Mr. Shatner, I mean ritter89, for spreading disinformation.

  • I love the intense sweating.....

  • Ha Family Guy copied this!

  • The entire Universe has been successfully trolled by Mr William Shatner.

    Good job Shatman !

  • Now THIS is art.

  • DeForest Kelley: Damn it, Bill! You're an actor, not a singer!

  • If you can't stand to watch the whole thing at least skip to 3:56, that shit's awesome right there...lol

  • fuck I hates the 70's

  • just a job 5 days a week smoking marijuana being lonely in space

  • Oh yeah, thats the good stuff.

  • William Shatner and his multiple personality disorder.

  • It takes special skill to talk sign a song without actually even signing.

  • @1337ijs *sing*

  • @1337ijs

    it's called spoken word.

  • @1337ijs we will call it RAP

  • 125 are not the people you thought they were, they're Troll-ket men.

    eh that doesn't really work
