@IamEVILBLANKA You may not like what Carkl Macek did to Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada, but regardless, Robotech was in large part responsible for the explosion of interest in anime during the mid-80s when it was a lot more difficult to come by. Had Robotech not been created and aired on TV in the US, many would not even know about anime unless they had attended comic cons that had anime rooms where they could view/trade VHS tapes with other fans. That's right - this was pre-bit torrent!

Although she did write the music and lyrics to this song, the arrangement that appears on her album (her second, if memory serves) is nothing like the arrangement that was used for Macross, which is the upbeat, "happy" one performed here.

I just heard the version of "Tenshi no Enogu" from her second album "Blanch" and it does sound a lot slower and very downbeat compared to the Macross version. Do you know if Mari Iijima wrote the Macross version of "Tenshi no Enogu" too?

However, the Macross version of the song does sound quite similar (but slightly less upbeat) to one of her earlier songs, "Kitto Ieru", from her debut album "Rose" (which was composed by YMO member and Grammy & Oscar winner Ryuichi Sakamoto).

Actually, I just found out that she wrote, composed and arranged the Macross version of the song too... which is really impressive for a young 20 year-old singer, especially since it's my favourite song in the Macross series! She must have gained a lot of experience working with Ryuichi Sakamoto on her debut album, after which she would write the songs for most of her later albums.
