  • your snare needs a new skin haha... anyway, is that a pearl export?

  • All I heard was "Right Left Right Right Left Right Left Left Right Right Left Left Left Right Right Right." Lol thx though this help ed me 2!

  • jni\

  • yah man, thx alot good beat forealz!

  • Good lesson to work with man. But I have more pressing news. I have found your long lost father ---> Michael Rapaport

  • Nice!

  • Hey for anybody thats been playing the drums awhile i have a question. I have been playing guitar for 4 yrs and have been wanting to pick up the drums 2 and half years ago lol. Im 16 now. Do you peeps think its to late to pcik it up and stay with the guitar. Or should i go for it.

  • @exitoftheend go for it. you're not entirely starting from scratch. you do know a bit about music to begin with.

  • @exitoftheend

If it's something you love and really want to do, I'd say go for it. I mean, I only started playing guitar last September and I'm 14, and I thought 'Is it too late to start now?' but now I'm playing songs like Hanger 18 and Raining Blood, so if you practise and you really want to get good, I'd definately say go for it!

  • cool man ur like tommy lee

  • This is awesome, took me like an hour to learn it! Great Lesson!!

  • Sounds really great on yer set....but on mine it sounds a bit different....wat do u think i should do

  • I'm diggin it :) Thanks for the help!

  • this is a very good example of paradiddle, good job man

  • ask yourself do you really deserve that drum set?

  • @jangel2771 - don't be negative. this is a useful lesson :)

  • ... so I bought a €500 electro drum set, very basic but affordable and nice to practise on without the neighbours shooting me in the head for it... :) So basically I have a really good rythm awareness for someone who never had any lessons, which means that I was able to crank out quite a drum solo (I surprised myself) when I tried it. BUT... the disadvantage is that you don't know any "tricks" and loops to practise on to get better. These lessons are GREAT for that! Thanks so much.

  • This is one of those "get the hang of it it's really easy and fulfilling to expand on it" things. I am a novice drum player, I bought some €500 electro drums a couple of months ago and this kind of lesson really helps! I have been drumming on everything solid all my life, desktops, bicycle steering bars, my knees, car steering wheel, but when I started drumming on my girlfriends ass during sex (really happened! :) lol) she suggested I try to get off that drumming habit and buy a kit to practise.

  • Did any one notice the color difference, between his nice new high hat, and the snare, which has got the shit beat out of it?

  • he knows when to hold at the fulcrum and when not to....if your are not doing rolls or buzz rolls who cares

  • shit it was simpler than i thought

  • you have really helped me

  • mine sounds a little different i think...but im doing it exactly how u explained.....but nice explaining-only took a few minutes to get the jist of it =)

  • this is easy to understand, thanks ;]

  • Great Video. You're a lot better at explaining things than a ton of other people on youtube. Keep rockin, man!

  • wow.... that actually helped me!!!! THANKS!!!

  • Why dont you stop teaching other people, and teach yourself!!

  • thank you!

  • mayby the double of the parrididle on the snare could be ghost note (more musical)

  • Great lesson...nice fundamentals...easy breakdown. Awesome job!

  • i watched it 2 times in 5 minuts and i can already play it . thanx guys !!

  • dude, thanks so much this video helped me a lot! :)

  • thx a lot this video helped me a lot

  • thank you guys SO much . you truely are the best. im 13 years old and i live in New Zealand. ive been drumming for about a week and i can already play all of your advanced and intermediate beats with your help . and also garret is a splitting image of my older cousin without the long hair who has been drumming all his life so i feel right at home . thanks so much

  • i can play this, i quite enjoy it actually. drumming could be my true calling!

  • yes thanks heaps man ur tha best i needed that beat 4 a primary school ordition and now i have a good chance of beating the other drummer poofs.

  • he looks like pretty fly for a white guy

  • Nice one, now I know how to play Vasoline by Stone Temple Pilots. What a tune, the drums are based around this technique.

  • oooh yeaaa... Vasoline RULES :D

  • Thanks for this, I'll be sure to check out your other videos :)

  • your holding your sticks too far back man

  • the style im using gives you a louder hit by using the weight of the stick rather than the power you put into it. using thinner sticks with this technique also lets you go faster without loosing the loudness.

I started using this after playing a few shows without mics. It sucked and I had to play as loud as possible without loosing my speed.

  • using thinner sticks only decreases the weight of the stick method your using.. So you can hold the sticks up to the rebound point (the point where you get most bounce and ..well rebound) which uses the momentum of the sticks to give you more power for less. Other words, lets you keep the power while you play. And also you will go through fewer sticks because you are not forcing the stick down into the head.

  • The sticks will bounce back easier and the transfer of motion will not be discharged all in the head of the drum or the sticks.

Steve Smith, drummer for Journey back in the day followed up on all of this. He is my main source of my information He talks about all this and even more on his site. Check it out, its the 3rd box down titled "part 2" around 5 minutes in he gets to it but it wont kill you to watch the whole thing..

  • yea i've seen those actually. very informational. Mike Johnson said something that I find very true. he said that techniques are good to study but your own technique is the most important. get the sound you want and study how you are doing it and perfect it. That's what I did with my grip and it work best for me but might not work at all for someone else.

    Thanks for the info though!

  • ahh my head... are u still talking about drums? or is this science class?

  • @jongarrett09 You could use the moeller method to get more power from your strokes and stay farther up. Thats what i do but it is all about personal preference.

  • @jongarrett09 thats exactly what i do! lol i thought i was like the only one lol

  • @jongarrett09 nope yo0ur wrong

  • @jongarrett09 even if you use a hammer, you wont get louder with that motion of the right hand ..

    0:16 - 0:25

    2:34 - 2:38

    and so on..

  • @Thos7 im pretty sure the guy knows what hes doing haha

  • cant get the hi hat rite!!

  • thanks for the tip really helps me out whenever i dnt have my music sheets while im moving lol thanks 5\5

  • I loke this comp... i lerned it when i had play drums in 1 year... U good to learn how to play it :))))

  • Oops! Just kidding it is really dirty. but it sounds good so whatever :) lol

  • man, nice video, such a simple beat and it sounds amazing :) keep up the lessons.

  • all snare heads get like that after a while... except for both of the ones i had :P but all my friends have dirty heads :P

  • The lesson is good, REALLY Good,!! But one thing, just change that head on the snare. It's really dirty!!

  • It's not dirty, it's a marching snare head. It's black.

  • Good lesson keep them coming.

But Para Diddles actully have an accent on them on the first hit.

  • I know this but it doesn't really sound as good. Adding different accents in different places is fun though.

  • yeah i must agree i enjoyed learning this beat.

    Thank you very much

    :)

  • tnx dude this really helps me a lot!!

  • playing with sox really helps :P

seriously though your foot slides more with faster bass drum beats.

  • Hey man thanks for this lesson. I've been playing about 7 years or so, and am always looking for new beats or exercises to keep a fresh spin on my playing. I don't guess I've ever really considered letting a paradiddle make up the beat. Pretty cool stuff, I'll definitely be adding it to the arsenal. Thanks again!
