Hey for anybody thats been playing the drums awhile i have a question. I have been playing guitar for 4 yrs and have been wanting to pick up the drums 2 and half years ago lol. Im 16 now. Do you peeps think its to late to pcik it up and stay with the guitar. Or should i go for it.
If it's something you love and really want to do, I'd say go for it. I mean, I only started playing guitar last September and I'm 14, and I thought 'Is it too late to start now?' but now I'm playing songs like Hanger 18 and Raining Blood, so if you practise and you really want to get good, I'd definately say go for it!
... so I bought a €500 electro drum set, very basic but affordable and nice to practise on without the neighbours shooting me in the head for it... :) So basically I have a really good rythm awareness for someone who never had any lessons, which means that I was able to crank out quite a drum solo (I surprised myself) when I tried it. BUT... the disadvantage is that you don't know any "tricks" and loops to practise on to get better. These lessons are GREAT for that! Thanks so much.
This is one of those "get the hang of it it's really easy and fulfilling to expand on it" things. I am a novice drum player, I bought some €500 electro drums a couple of months ago and this kind of lesson really helps! I have been drumming on everything solid all my life, desktops, bicycle steering bars, my knees, car steering wheel, but when I started drumming on my girlfriends ass during sex (really happened! :) lol) she suggested I try to get off that drumming habit and buy a kit to practise.
mine sounds a little different i think...but im doing it exactly how u explained.....but nice explaining-only took a few minutes to get the jist of it =)
thank you guys SO much . you truely are the best. im 13 years old and i live in New Zealand. ive been drumming for about a week and i can already play all of your advanced and intermediate beats with your help . and also garret is a splitting image of my older cousin without the long hair who has been drumming all his life so i feel right at home . thanks so much
the style im using gives you a louder hit by using the weight of the stick rather than the power you put into it. using thinner sticks with this technique also lets you go faster without loosing the loudness.
I started using this after playing a few shows without mics. It sucked and I had to play as loud as possible without loosing my speed.
using thinner sticks only decreases the weight of the stick method your using.. So you can hold the sticks up to the rebound point (the point where you get most bounce and ..well rebound) which uses the momentum of the sticks to give you more power for less. Other words, lets you keep the power while you play. And also you will go through fewer sticks because you are not forcing the stick down into the head.
The sticks will bounce back easier and the transfer of motion will not be discharged all in the head of the drum or the sticks.
Steve Smith, drummer for Journey back in the day followed up on all of this. He is my main source of my information He talks about all this and even more on his site. Check it out, its the 3rd box down titled "part 2" around 5 minutes in he gets to it but it wont kill you to watch the whole thing..
yea i've seen those actually. very informational. Mike Johnson said something that I find very true. he said that techniques are good to study but your own technique is the most important. get the sound you want and study how you are doing it and perfect it. That's what I did with my grip and it work best for me but might not work at all for someone else.
@jongarrett09 You could use the moeller method to get more power from your strokes and stay farther up. Thats what i do but it is all about personal preference.
Hey man thanks for this lesson. I've been playing about 7 years or so, and am always looking for new beats or exercises to keep a fresh spin on my playing. I don't guess I've ever really considered letting a paradiddle make up the beat. Pretty cool stuff, I'll definitely be adding it to the arsenal. Thanks again!
your snare needs a new skin haha... anyway, is that a pearl export?

Did any one notice the color difference, between his nice new high hat, and the snare, which has got the shit beat out of it?

The lesson is good, REALLY Good,!! But one thing, just change that head on the snare. It's really dirty!!
javi4life23 2 years ago
It's not dirty, it's a marching snare head. It's black.

Good lesson keep them coming.
But Para Diddles actully have an accent on them on the first hit.

I know this but it doesn't really sound as good. Adding different accents in different places is fun though.
