  • Just about all these falls are due to the rider. Experience does not mean u r a good rider. People keep the same bad habits year in and year out, it's disgusting to see great horses get yanked in the chops as they take off over a scary and huge jump. I think the english are the worst of all, they shouldn't even be allowed on horses.

  • @annieladysmith Please correct me if I'm wrong, somebody. This kind of riding is directly descended from cavalry training. These are glorified war games dressed up as sport. This is an industry run for profit.

We're seeing record numbers of horses in need of rescue. Some people even take down horse sanctuary fences and put their horses in during the hours of darkness. Those who care can help horses in need. Supporting an industry of this nature does not demonstrate a caring attitude.

  • @annieladysmith Where I live in rural England I frequently see riders who are obviously practising loose rein techniques and telepathy. On behalf of those riders I have to say not all English riders deserve contempt.

    I'm a packhorse man myself.

  • @annieladysmith yes, most falls r the rider's fault. yes, some of these riders r in the horses' mouths too much. but these ppl r great riders. to say that the english "shouldn't even be allowed on horses" is predjudiced & untrue. do u know every english person? no. u can't make such a big judgement. i started riding there, my instructors & barn friends there were some of the nicest riders to their horses i've ever met. and i know lots of ppl who aren't english who are very cruel to their horses.

  • @annieladysmith yes, i agree with u. They are good horse recuers too.

I can see that the hunter seat training we get in N. America makes a great difference in our jumping styles. I have ridden cross-country in Ireland and they never can figure out how i am always with the horse and the horse is always happy. They can't get that it is all in the secure, independent and balance seat i have from spending so much time in hunter competition. U have to be still and flow to win the round.

  • You have to understand that these are very experienced riders and that falls are a part of the sport

    I have two horses

    I would know

  • Ok, but there are some seriously f'd up obstacles in some of these accidents

  • and its not that i disagree with the sport .. i disagree with some of the riders.

  • i can never understand why people pull so hard on their mouths... that's not trust . anyone who pulls that hard on a horse shouldn't be riding. its one thing to ease a horse thats going to fast or getting excited but its another to jurk your reins back all hard.. personally i wouldn't go over those jumps either if someone pulled at my mouth. serves em right !(riders) as for the video the music was priceless :D

  • @joeyvomitz THIS IS NOT CRUEL!! I HAVE BEEN HORSE RODONG SINCE I WAS 3! I WOULD'VE STOPPED IF IT WAS CRUEL BECUZ I LOVE HORSES!

  • I enjoy this sports, I only wish the fences would broke if you crash really hard. Obviously not as easily as in show jumping, but just for safety reasons! I know they've thought about that in the FEI already. :)

  • My best friend has a friend who she met while spending the winter in Ocala and riding for Darren Chiacchia, who also rides for him, and she does cross country. I personally can never do that. I'm a hunter/jumper. Even tho I only met my best friends, best friend like a couple of times, I give her and everyone else who does this th utmost respect!

  • I think a few of the falls were due to bad course design, on a couple I think it was a bit hard for the horses to be sure exactly what they were jumping. The riders all do so well, to compete at that level is amazing!

  • @TheSofieLee it isn't due to bad course design. The course is made to be twisty and tricky so its a challenge to both horse and rider. If it was straight forward and simple jumps then there be no fun or challenge in it.

  • @JessieAllStar I know it's supposed to be challenging lol, that's obvious.

I'm not on about the whole entire course, just on certain parts. If riders are falling off at the same points, it indicates that that particular part of the course, maybe wasn't designed as well as it could be.

  • i love the way the horses somtimes just carry on like nothing happend!

  • poor horse on 4:56...tsk2

  • I had 2 mute that because the music is soooo inapropriate!

  • Number one reason i wont do cross country

  • poor horse on 1:37

  • whats the second song called?x

  • Horse at 1:50 says,"Right,Left,Right,Jump,Fall!!,Run Away and get the water outta my ears!!"

  • mute the sound and play "fearless by taylor swift. it goes pretty good :)

  • at least in 4:00 the rider got over the fence

  • Pippa Funnel has the same name as me :)

  • hey i noticed the foxtel sign thingy.. what channels can you find equestrian ?? im always looking!

  • whoever posted this video is fucking sick! I hate these videos, all the professional riders competing in here are under huge amounts of emotional and physical stress and they are apsoloutely devastated when they crash and they dont need you rubbing it in their faces. lots of horses and riders get serioudely injured and or die, these videos arnt funney there are really really sad. go get a fucking life!!!!!!!!!!

  • The interesting, and I think helpful for a rider like me just starting cross country, is you can see where the rider and the horse begin to lose control, often one or two jumps before the fall, and that is what causes the spill later on. It makes you amazed at how well the pair are in sync and how because they get out of sync it causes a big fall. These riders are exceptionally talented and have to be super confident. I personally think both rider and horse in any XC phase is amazing.

  • It's so nice to see many riders giving their horses a pat after they've had a shock with a fall or something similar! Pippa Funnell's attitude after her fall at 0:30 is really good.

Though I do think some event riders need to learn to let go of the reins when they fall to prevent extra discomfort and danger to the horse. Yes, the horse may run off, but with the ruling that you can't continue after a fall, there's not really much to lose, the horse will stop eventually! :)

  • @JessieOneThousand05 The reason they try to hang on to their horses if they fall is because usually another horse and rider are on their way. In most cross-country events, the horses and riders begin at pre-set times, so you reeeeaaaaallly don't want a loose horse running around when the next pair comes. :)

  • @AraRavenwolf I'm sure everyone else who is competing at the time is competent enough to avoid a loose horse. I was at an event and there was a loose horse, all other riders on the course either didn't even realize there was a horse loose, or avoided it calmly and continued on course. They can actually stop the timing for everyone and then start them again mid-course. They should be thinking about the horses, if you're not competent enough to avoid a loose horse, then you shouldn't be competing

  • Wow

Alot of riders use too much pressure on the horses mouth, etc. No one may notice- but I just watched the movie "Buck." a horse trainer, and the very slightest pressure on the reins his horse turns, even with balence it turns. I wish all horses were trained like he does it...it's incredible.

  • oh my gosh :(

  • It looks like they are sawing at the horses mouth with the reins! Poor horse, I would never treat mine that way!

  • I love how all you people that don't know a damn thing about this are screaming poor horse/bad riders. I do this at a very low level and its hard. Not only is it demanding on the bodies of you and your horse its emotionally demanding as well. I can tell you right now if the horses didn't trust their riders they wouldn't do any of this! It's all a huge team effort and when things like these falls happen the riders are devastated. No rider at this level abuses their partner! Learn Respect.

  • @Razmataz16 Agree! :)

  • 4:57 to 5:04... Poor horse....

  • poor horses...the owners are so inconcious about their horses...

  • that's the most dangerous equestrian sport in the world, can not believe they're not more careful with their horses

  • 9:18 the horse took 2 strides on its knees :) hope the guy was ok?

  • I feel bad for the rider and horse in the clip that starts at 9:13 but the one after that..... the horse is like "that looks big. Maybe I'll try it............. nah how bout I just plow through it."

  • 2:22 was total rider failure. That quick tug on the mouth and the horse's head came right up in mid-spot... blech.

  • The rider at 3:54. Dear horse did you know that both YOU and RIDER must jump the jump not just rider ;) lol

  • Horse at 2:58. "I'm going to ump this, on second thoughts, nah,

  • I love how well they take care of the horses.

  • Is the paint a 1:43 constantly doing flying changes? xD Or is that just my imagination?

  • love the video, but the 2nd song is a little distracting lol.

  • Pippa Funnel looks like....well she needs to go back to jumping cross rails..

  • @TheRedhorse3 Agreed... looks like she's doing the chicken dance with those elbows of hers. :|

  • could I use some of these clips in a video? :) i'll credit you

  • I don't think people who watch this truly understand how riding works. Not just cross country, but in general. Just because this shows these riders faults and falls doesn't mean they ride like this all the time. These people treat their horses with great respect. These horses will do anything for their riders. Yes, they "pull on the reins" and "bounce in the saddle". Have you ever ridden a horse? How about a horse of this level? Cross country? Get over yourself and learn the facts.

  • did you guys see when the horse fell at 6:00

when the man took his reins the horse got a bit frightened like the man was going to hit him ) :

  • most of theses people had no control over their horse beacause you can clrealy see that they give the horse to much rein making it hard to slow down turn and such so all these falls are mostly the riders fault

  • this is probably one of the best ones i have seen, most of the time the ones with fallas are just pictures, i hate when a video is just pictures, lol, poor horses though, i would freak if my horse fell like any of these, i hate to think my best friend would get hurt, i do not do jumping, but still...

  • OMG! Great video but the way the horses fall, I dont think i would ever get used to a horse falling like that :/ and why do you hate cross-country?

  • i hate cross-country and i know why..

  • Reading these comments makes me angry -.-

  • jumping in water is stupid and pointless. its wayyyy too slippery. i mean, look at the poor horse and rider at 2:04!!!!!

  • Cross country can be really horrible! Poor horses...

  • i dont know if it is just me but i enjoy the thrills more thumbs up if you agree:)

  • Im prettty sure at 3:55 she jumped off :P

  • great video , its hard to watch that but its good ;D

  • Not trying to be rude or anything. But are those riders supposed to be pulling on the horses mouth so much? I mean I know I'm just a beginner rider and everything, but I thought you were supposed to give the horse it's head a little bit?

  • most ANNOYING music ever the second song...

  • ahww... the horse at 0:33 has hurt his leg, he doesn't stand on it :(

  • the courses are much safer now days its good to see. i didnt much like the look of that one from 1992.

  • no offence to dem but nearly all of these were the riders fault the way they rode the way they turned them into the fences etc. xxxx

  • i think its funny how these horses all run away from their riders. when i fall my horse come overs checks on me and stands to be mounted lol

  • @Smiley6095 You are probably very good to your horse. You care for your horse and your horse cares for you. :)

  • @PurpleAntiqueRoses thanks :) i really hate watching professional riders hit their horses with crops :/ ill never use one... do you have a horse?

  • at 1:36 , how didn't he break his leg ???? all the horse felt on his leg!

  • 9:32... you dont have to jump it, just run right through it!

  • This makes we want to get on a horse again so bad... And I'm being serious!

  • I just cringe every time I watch this

  • 1:18 !!! 0.o poor horse!! ouch!! :,[

  • wow brill jumping well done for making the video

sorry about miss spelling in the last one

  • wow brill jumping well doe for making the video

  • The adrenaline rush that comes with this sport is unbelievable. I love XC<3 no matter how many spills I take, it will always be my passion. My horse is such a dear for putting up with it, he loves it as much as I do, it's amazing<3

  • ow the last one must of hourt the very last video it must if really hurt

  • 5:58 loL! the horse ran into the rider....... my god! this place is sure to get your horse injured just like my horse is, omg, really smart, huh? and the riders get hurt too! god! such a stupid place..... just asking for injuries

  • @MrTeamAquaKyogre i dont know but i want to

  • amazing film this is one of the one where i just keep gping back to you have put so much effort into it well done

  • this is quite hard to watch, many of the horses were injured and the ones that stop putting weight on one feet completely usually means its quite serious :s

  • I actually hate watching cross country at this level.. Those riders pull on the reins ALL THE TIME!! The horses' mouths must be so sore! :( And the riders seem to just bounce around in the saddle, landing hard in the saddle and whipping their horses all the time! I like cross country, but not at this level, I don't think those horses are treated very well!

  • @MrsRagnarok I agree, the guy in the water at 7:27 after Andrew Nicholson is absolutely disgusting sawing on the horses mouth like that.

  • @MrsRagnarok I do agree with you, BUT horses, especially at this level, tend to be very excited when doing XC, and also very strong. Often it looks worse than it actually is, if the horse has just done a drop or steps or anything which has ment the riders have slipped their reins with a fence a few strides later, often then riders lean back and pull their arms back as they dont have time to shorten reins, and dont really want a horse going flat to a step. I do agree with some of them though xD

  • @MrsRagnarok ok. lets be real here. would u think twice before going over a 4 foot solid obstacle? in this high level of competition you need to back up your aids, and the horse has to respond immediately if he wants to get over it nicely. yes i do agree some of them were "rough", but what would u do if u were just jumped out of the tack and headed for another obstacle? and the horses are treated very well.. i have been to an eventing barn and they are treated like gold. dont judge before u know

  • @Horselover6044 I didn't jugde, sorry if it came out that way :) I'm sure they treat their horses great, I just think some of it looks really rough! And I can understand it might be scary, but maybe they shouldn't do eventing then? If they have to think twice and that results in a lot of pulling the horses' mouth? But anyway, I know they treat their horses great and maybe these clips are just the few bad mistakes out of a hundred good :)

  • @MrsRagnarok Me too

  • @MrsRagnarok thats why i love to watch the horses dump they're abusive owners.

  • @iluvjamesy they arent abusive, its a sport, if u play soccer, do u abusive the ball?? no. plus do u know what horses could do if they didnt have a rider, kill us. they are powerful, and dont make the smartest decisions, and probably would hurt themselves.

  • @hunterjumper798 but to a degree, like they yank on the horses mouth's and whip the hell out of the poor horses if they don't jump the corners/ jumps.

  • @MrsRagnarok Umm have you have you ever ridden cross country? I compete in three day eventing and im sorry but you have obviously never done it. Those jumps are at least 4', they dont move, and the rider is shortening and lenghtening the horse. Im schooling Pre-lim which isnt as big as advanced but its 3'6 and they are HARD jumps. We dont "bounce" around in the saddle, nor do we whip our horses unless it is encouraging them to go. So actually try it before you say somthing.

  • @eventerchika565 No, I have never ridden cross country at a professional level, only for fun :) and I don't care if you're "lengthening and shortening" the horse, you shouldn't be pulling their mouths. I think you will have a much happier horse if you either learn to not pull their mouths all the time, or learn to ride without a bit :) LI know the jumps are hard but that's no excuse.

  • @MrsRagnarok uh its called half halting, im sorry but if my horse does not listen to half halts and closing my thigh, im gonna make him stop, bcuz if you are going as fast as they are, that horse needs to LISTEN. And i agree with another comment, if you are going down a double bank to a skinny, you are gonna slip your reins and juss jump with a long rein over the skinny. Why dont you actually try it before talking like you know what your doing ok? Ok:)

  • @eventerchika565 You can half halt perfectly without pulling the horse's mouth :) if you can't then maybe you should train your horse in dressage some more before going to a cross country event. And, aparently I'm not the only one thinking it's cruel, just look at the other comments ;) so why don't you just start telling everyone off? I'm sure there are some good cross country riders who don't pull on the bit, I'm just saying that these videos look a bit too harsh :) so relax.

  • @MrsRagnarok Uh you cant compete in cross country w/o dressage and stadium jumping, thats why its called 3 day eventing. duh, and im doing 2nd level dressage with my horse, so i have done my time in dressage. And why dont you go out and try to do what they are doing, then talk. Im not trying to be mean im just defending my sport. And if they act like they know what they are talking about and they dont, i will be more than glad to tell them off.

  • @eventerchika565 Why do you freak out like that? I never said you were a bad rider so who do you tell me what level of dressage you ride? And yes I know you do dressage in eventing, but I'm just saying if you can't even jump without inflicting pain on the horse, then maybe you should do more dressage. And you don't have to defend your sport because I'm not saying it's a bad sport, I'm saying that these specifik clips in this video show some unpleasant riding, that's all :)

  • @MrsRagnarok There are a lot of good riding at that level, and if some horses were not treated well, they would not have jumped at all. They do not pull on the reins all the time. What you see is the unfortunate episodes.

  • @MrsRagnarok they are treated rlly well! whats your problem? the riders are professionals. they dont rip in hte mouth that hard as it looks. btw. you try this? you wouldnt survive a singe jump. and they dont bounce in the saddles. its called a ''light seat'' incase you dont know

  • @MrsRagnarok Well I agree with you except the treated well thing... when these horses finish their job they are the most pampered horses out there... but as everyone (including cross country riders) say.. A cross country rider is not a proper or good rider.. just gutsy. So expect to see some rough handing, horrible position, and lots of yanking on the reins, because unlike those who compete in Hunters, or in the International ring at Spruce.. they don't know how to use their seat

  • @ImaBarrelRacer eventers don't know how to use their seat...aprt from the fact they ride more in the other diciplines than anyone else.....they say cross country riding is ugly, not skill-less. Watch William Fox Pitt, Andrew Nicholson, Boyd Martin go xc.

  • @ImaBarrelRacer - "but as everyone (including cross country riders) say A cross country rider is not a proper or good rider.. just gutsy" - you couldn't be more wrong. A purely "gutsy" rider couldn't ride at 4*. What you people fail to take into acount is this video only shows the bad bits. Have you EVER actually watched what cross country is supposed to look like? "They" whom you refer to clearly isn't someone that knows what they're on about, and hunters know how to use their seat? PAHAHAAA!!!

  • @MrsRagnarok sometimes you have to pull on the horses mouth to get them slow down or stop. I dont ride with my reins, i only use my legs but when i went do some cross country with my horse for the first time he was so excited there was no stopping him and i had to pull on him. Ye his mouth is a but sore and im givin him a week off work but he will be fine by sunday. Sometimes you just have to for your own safety and sometimes your horses if they are bein silly

  • @MrsRagnarok I agree, it looks like all these riders are just plowing through the course without any control or finesse. Those poor horses.

  • @MrsRagnarok that is soo true, these riders might b professionals but they shouldnt b treating their horses like this :(

  • Ouch! After watching this, you've gotta appreciate what risks these people take daily!

  • Just curious - I thought it was kinda funny most of the horses just ran off when their rider fell... Seems like there isn't much respect there?? Do eventing horses get much groundwork or lessons on manners?

  • @kittyslider Eventing is a three phase sport that includes dressage, show jumping, and cross county. so yes eventing horses get lots of groundwork. whether or not they have ground manners is up to the individual owners but odds are they get that too. you cant successfully compete at this level without a solid partnership built on mutual respect and trust. also i have to point out that this is 10 minutes of spills out of the thousands of hours of eventing that goes on every year.

  • This should get a prize for most annoying songs!

  • it's not the fault of the horses if they are to much use!!!

  • did the horse at 4.50 recover? limping like that is scary :(

  • when ever i fall off my horse or my horse with me he puts his lip up and starts to trot around and then come back to me he is such a cutey :P love ya legend

  • did the horse at 3:49 get up okay?

  • haha feel sorry for those people who fell off in the water :p

  • There's Kim Severson and Andante!! 8:40

  • How can you tell if your horse is polite? He will stop and let you go over the fence first ... 3:55

  • Skön film! Synd att jag tappa bort dig på tentapuben, du va jäkligt trevlig :P

  • FUCK THAT.

  • Please do another Thrills and Spills! I love this vid!

  • i dont always like cross country/eventing.... its rough riding, and those fences are solid. its not like show jumping where the poles fall down.

  • Omg the one where the gray horse completely rolls over its rider. He or she conldnt even move

  • Alot of the clips from this video are from Badminton Horse Trials, and Badminton is a HARD course, plus the footing is horrible there

  • This is so inhumane to make these horses do this.

  • @rollinontwentys Seriously? o.O These are only few of the heaps of horses that go out on the course. In any sport SOMEONE is bound to be injured. Do the horses look unhappy going around the course? Nope, in fact they look like they are having a heap of fun!

They are treated exceptionally well too. When you look closely, most of them weren't even pulling in their horses mouths.

It's a dangerous sport and people and horses do get hurt, but there is no way around it, accidents happen.

  • @Painted099 finally someone with some common sense!

  • i think most of the problems are when the riders hold the horses head too tightly and take off too soon and im NOT. saying im better

  • If Pippa Funnell's horse (The first clip) was a boy....ouch!

  • oh its so sad for the horses and riders to fall so hard

  • best vid ever

  • ha people look funny when they flap their arms all ova the place.

  • @horsesr4eva no they dont

  • @horsesr4eva Lol I never really noticed it till I read your comment XD They remind me of chickens....

  • That boat jump is seriously evil...

    And the skinny at 3:54

I can remember watching quite a lot of these difficult combinations of jumps and holding my breath as each rider approached them.

  • ive never done XC but i want to

  • i wonder what the riders are thinking when the horse falls with them... i would be like "bye life bye everything" and close my eyes and get things over with

  • 9:34 OUCH!! Looks painful. :s

  • wow - 3:54 !! that's crazy.. hah... oh dear

  • everyon whos critizising( i cant spell sorry) just stop because what makes you any better no one is perfect :)

  • although when i fall i blame it on myself all of these falls were not the riders fault and they couldn't of done better if they tried tbh dont forget there only human like you and there horses are only horses. Its impossible to be perfect

  • 00:30 Aaaaand that's why cross-country obstacles should fall down or come apart O.O Oww-ee! Poor horse! That'll definitely hurt in the morning =S

  • @C00kieM0nster07 owww ikr

  • Haha pippa funnel looks a little wacky :)

  • Wow! Some of those falls looked painful! I'm glad everyone was Ok. IMHO, cross-country IS dangerous BUT everything is dangerous. The horse I ride has fallen completely on her side, pinning a riders leg beneath her when she was only doing flat work. Riding horses is dangerous, but worth it. And those horses seem to be enjoying their jobs. Their riders keep them in top shape and even put grease on their legs and use special tack to help protect them.

  • 0:30 owwwwww

  • It kills me to see all the riders falling off. Just falling off on the flat hurts, but falling off over a jump and having a horse near step on you....wow...

  • Damn -- That's all I can say!

  • cross country falls always look soooooo painful! half the time im just amazed the horses get up off the ground! it takes a special horse and rider for this sport. my horse would have laughed at me if i asked her to do this. she would give me that look like "are you crazy! you jump it" lol kudos to these riders and their horses!

  • i love watching this stuff and id love to bring my horse to do cross country but sometimes i think some of the jumps are a little much. Great riders and great horses but i personally think sometimes we just ask to much of them. I love jumping, so no hate on it, but i wouldnt want to risk my horse or myself. I've jumped 4'6 in the ring but at least those jumps fall. The highest i've gone on x-country i think was 3'6 and i felt like that was pushing it some. Great Vid though!!

  • i love this video cuz it shows that riding isnt easy. its a sport and its dangerous and its a thrill but us riders love it.

  • Those are some serious ass jumps compared to what I'd do haha

  • OMG nice obstacle at 0:43!

  • love this

  • Comment removed

  • @2psychosociald *poor *animals

  • @2psychosociald Agreed =( *Estoy de acuerdo. =(

  • shit that was an awsome video (:

  • i luv this video haha funny :DD

  • i hate cross country they pull way to hard i mean really just because your mad that your horse refused u shouldnt take it out on your poor horses fucking mouth!!!

  • Omg poor girl in 1:00 in the yellow shirt that is shown like a bunch of times. ya i feel bad she practiced so freakin hard and her horse just isnt corroperating. hard corse to hahaha its okay everyone i train with her:)

  • I hate it when the course is built , but it is so obivous that the horse is not gonna be able to jump it! like at 5:40 !

  • @UltimatePonyLover At these levels jumps like that are common, if your horse can't jump difficult angles then they shouldnt be in the level of compitetion. I myself am a 3 day eventing rider and because my horse can't handle Corners I am stuck at the Pre-entry and Entry levels.

  • @RobsAvatarNerd I understand that as I do regular hunter courses on our horse , but some corners are just to much! as im sure you know! ;)

  • 98% of these spills are by rider fault!! Wankas

  • @Colleen4207 eberyone makes mistakes, its only that these riders are making them at a higher level. Good on them and full praise to both them and there animals!
