@rhtdy Algae are plant life, and provide oxygen and consume carbon dioxide during the daytime due to the photosynthesis process. At night however, they CONSUME oxygen and give out carbon dioxide due to the respiration process.
@rhtdy Yes. Personally, I would prefer no algae nor any plants inside my pond. I certainly have no plants, but algae needs to be controlled. Btw, the pond in this video is not my pond.
@rhtdy Depends on the hobbyist. If you want a nice looking water garden with some colourful fish inside, then fine. If you want a serious koi pond with koi which are thriving, then no plants. Water which is good for koi is not good for plants and vice versa. Soil also brings much parasites and bacteria into the pond.
this video is really helpful to me, because i tend to overfeed my fish with a system that i suspect is not strong enough to handle the waste. then i chase after the causes of the green water,,,putting the cart in front of the horse.
Hi Uncle, I feed my own koi up to 500 pellets PER KOI per day. It is important to do daily water changes (up to 10%) through backflushing the filter. Also, my filter is cleaned every 2 weeks. Green water is usually due to unicellular algae which can be eradicated using submerged UV lights.
greetings, 300g per day is about how many pellets of food per fish you think? i assume his growth rate is not like yours right? so here we have a pond in equilibrium ecologically speaking. self sufficient with min human intervention. no fun, haha! just kidding.
I would estimate 200-300 pellets in 300g, depending on pellet size. This is not a pond design capable of bringing top quality show koi to their best potential. Closed systems like our ponds are far from being natural. We try to "partially open" them by doing water changes. Nevertheless, this pond is inspirational to those who either wish or need to keep their pond running costs low. Mr Ho's running costs for the pond are about USD15 per month only. Just one power efficient pump.
a real natural pond there, letting nature run its coarse, beautiful, HUGE koi in there too. its probably the fact hes not in there messing with it why it can be that clear and healthy.
What a beautiful koi pond :) If I ever have the money to keep koi, I will keep them like this.

@rhtdy It's really up to you. My guess, you're probably the former type, so I suppose you would go ahead anyway.

Hi 10k. I guess it really depends on what objectives and ambitions one has in this hobby.
hooinc 2 years ago
indeed, it does. i love the ones who use zero maint. set ups like this. it just adds to the whole feel of it.

I wouldn't really describe the koi in there as huge. Maybe one chagoi about 75cm.

how many gallons does 30tons come out to? gal of water weighs 8lbs, so 30 tons would be 7500gals?
10kpondguy 2 years ago
30 tons is equivalent to 7,925 US gallons or 6,600 UK gallons.

sweet, i wasnt too far off then, lol. thanks for the reassurance on that. still, awesome pond.
