Splinter Cell is the superior stealth game. That's pretty much undebatable. Anyone who's played both franchises can see that. But as far as storyline, MGS far outclasses Splinter Cell. And personally, since I'm not that good at stealth games, I prefer MGS. It may not be as challenging as SC, but at least it's more fun.
MGS4 is the best for its story and details, but Splinter Cell has a far more realistic stealth engine. I'm a big fan of both games, so my opinion ain't biased, so don't try nothing wastemans.

They're both good games people, and I bet most of the MGS fanboys here have never played SC (start with 1 or Chaos Theory, they're the best ones, not to mention hardest, but if you're into MGS style difficulty, play Conviction), if you say all SC does is rip off MGS, MGS has done it's fair share of taking stuff from SC, like enemies being able to see past 5 feet, a working cover system, and multiplayer
mgs4 was before splinter cell and mgs4 has better graphics than conviction and has better story and gameplay. Also no screw up points. I like it how they kept some of the things on mgs4 original and some thinks identical from the old mgs games. Mgs4 10/10. Splinter cell conviction is a 7/10 it just sucks.
Splinter Cell meant you could actually stealth through most of the game. You had the choice on whether to kill people, or just knock them out. You had so much freedom in what to do. Splinter Cell is more realistic than MGS4, and it's Co-op is so fucking epic. It had side bonuses in the story-line which you had the choice to do if you wanted to get a better score. My favourite tool was the Camera. GAS TEH ENEMEH! I would play Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory over MGS4 any day.
@TheMoxan lol ok mgs is the same you have the choice to knock em out or kill them? what's the difference? it's worse in splinter cell because if you kill anybody in previous splinter cell you fail the mission or you get a bad rating so i wouldn't call it "freedom". In MGS even if you kill thousands of people it won't affect you anyways or your objective. You have rules in SC, no rules in MGS. MGS4 is more realistic than any SC games put together. Only thing good about SC is co-op.
@Youngbling76 Lol, i agree it had rules, but it was ground-breaking for a ps2/xbox original game. anyway, splinter cell conviction is the new enemy for you in town. It's got some awesome takedowns in it, and you don't die instantly when you are spotted. It's got an environment for you to use, with ledges and walls you can kill enemies from. It's multiplayer isn't perfect, but it's definitely not terrible. There are a nice amount of weapons, good customization, nice animation, and it has good AI.
@TheMoxan i didn't mean to say SC convict. is a bad game, it's great! i have it for PC. I love it but i prefer MGS over SC and also SC convict. was inspired from MGS and a bit of Bourne & 24 tv series but don't get me wrong, i love SC especially convict.

both games are masterpiece, but i would like to say that in mgs u can easily complete a mission just by using a gun. in splinter cell using gun and just running to complete the mission is very very hard and u just get urself killed.

I can't say Splinter Cell sucks because I thought the Conviction demo was actually pretty good.
But you can't say its better than Metal Gear Solid 4. The story line, gameplay, and graphics were completely solid in MGS4. Sure it had tons of clips but I didn't care because I thought most of them were just amazing. Except the opening ones before each act. The game pretty much defines the true Playstation experience.
Not just 4, but all of them, they may be fiction. But heck Hideo Kojima pins you in some of the worst situations that you have to fight out of... Most of the times with little or no ammo. I've never played splinter cell but I really don't favor it according to the gameplay I've seen.

Mgs4 is probably the most over rated game in the market>>the movie clips are so ridiculous>>the producers put too much emphasis on the movie aspect of the game and invested very little time on actual game play..for every 3 minutes of game play theres about 20 minutes of movie clips; that you cant even ignore.

MGS4 for being more than a game, more than a movie, and much more than just an interactive movie. Its experience is something like reading a really good book while bungee jumping. Damn it, bad example... anyways, only people who play MGS4 on an HDTV with full surround sound can see that it is the greatest game of all time (but not the most classic, that probably belongs to Ocarina of Time).

I've played both and I like them both but the thing i really hate about MGS, 4 especially, is that you can just get some well good guns out of nowhere. In splinter cell, you have to rely on your ability to sneak around unoticed cos if your seen you have nothing thats all that good in a fire fight.

Snake isn't a 'grandpa'. He's suffering from excellerated aging. It's in his genes to die young because the people who cloned Snake didn't want anybody else to make other clones of him for evil purposes. If you've even bothered to play the other Metal Gear games, Snake is young and kick-assier than Sam Fisher could ever hope to be. Besides, how do the enemies not see Same Fisher if he has 3 freakin' glowing lights on his head...
i would recommend mgs4 to people who like cinematic experiences
i recommend splinter cell who like stealth games that are more realistic (mgs4 has some realistic stealth mechanics but some people can just run through it, i literally mean run)
overall though, i like mgs4 better, the stealth in mgs4 in my opinion is better for me

i would recommend mgs4 to people who like cinematic experiences
i recommend splinter cell who like stealth games that are more realistic (mgs4 has some realistic stealth mechanics but some people can just run through it, i literally mean run)
overall though, i like mgs4 better, the stealth in mgs4 in my opinion is better for me
the stealth in splinter cell is good but not really my style

I'd say that we should hold off the comparison till Conviciton comes out...
MGS4 is unbelievable... SC hasn't really made it's comeback yet since Ubisoft Shanghai made DA, which was somewhat dissapointing.

I think splinter cell games are much better than MGS1-3 (tho all MGS are awesome) then MGS4 took some aspects from splinter cell combining them with MGS to make a the masterfull MGS4

If i was to get real, then i´d say both Sam Fisher and Snake have really cheap moves... but anyway wtf are u talking about they´re both stealth games, "cheap moves" are to be expected, and they are what makes stealth games so cool, or u want a STEALTH game in which you go punching everyone to death just because sneaking from behind or coming down a ceiling are "cheap moves"
