@leszek0506 Dobrze mówisz kolego, chciałbym aby w granice Polski z powrotem powróciły nasze wschodnie tereny skradzione przez Stalina po 1945 roku. To moje największe marzenie.

If not Poland there would be no Lietuva at all. Keep Vilnius district, but at least behave in civilised way with that Lithuanians who prefered to become Polish.
Lithuanians never wanted to become poles, poles always wanted to make us poles. Lithuania never wanted to give to poland it's ethnic territories by itself, poland always tried to invade in my country as much as they can.
"If not poland bla bla bla". I can also say that if not Lithuania poles wouldn't won Zalgiris (Grunwald) batle.
poland sometimes "helped" us, but that "help" had it's own price for us. I don't know, how polish BANDIT zeligovski helped us?
This 500 signs comment box is too small to explain you your own history, but i`m not suprised that you follow the rabbit of the Lithuanian nationalism. If we speak about the "etchnic lands", as you said, Vilnius and whole this region was etchnically Polish after WWI, however i don`t feel good with the Żeligowski`s action and whole this conflict. I prefere good relations with Lihuania over some lands and i find clams like "Suvalkai=Lietuva" as a poor joke.
I`ve said deliberatelly about "Lithuanians who wanted to become Poles", becouse Poles weren`t allowed to settle in GDL or to hold an offices, while Lithuanians could do it in Poland (how unfair was that union, wasn`t?). So, it seems that with the time some people started to speak Polish, then camed XIX with romantism/nationalism and brought this whole fuss.
Vilnius was founded by Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas, in Lithuanian territory. It doesnt matter how many poles sometime lived in Vilnius and whole this region, Vilnius always was Lithuanian city. Generally, the whole shit of polonizm began after Union of Lublin. After that lithuanians litle by litle began to speak polish Lithuanian's got „good conditions to become poles. But 50% of poles population or more in Vilnius region didnt made it Polands territory. zeligovski invaded and did it.
I`m afraid it does matter since XIXc nationalism, defined by the language. It wasn`t this way always, i can give you a great antique Vilnius writers who were disputing with Polish, writeing about history of Lithuania and so on... in Polish, they felt Lithuanians, same goes for Ravilas, Polish speaking Lithuanians. The "shit" of 'polonism' begun with christianisation, union of Kreva, Horodlo and... Lublin was more an effect of it than reason, it was proposed by Lithuanians anyway.
Yes, Lithuania proposed it. And Poland took this opportunity to racket a lot of territories from Lithuania. And polonizm sped up too. Union of Lublin was very disadvantageous for Lithuania. Poland was interested in that.
Union would be with or without ceeding that terrains and with or without union Poland was aiding you against Ivan. If you thinks that country`s power goes after territory, tell me how was that possible that much smaller Poland was richer, more populated and was affecting your culture so much? "Polonism" or whatever, didn`t speeded up, as Poles weren`t even allowed to settle nor to hold an offices in GDL, but Lithuanians could do it in Poland.
It's because lithuanian language and culture was not developed by lithuanian politics. They just take polish language and culture. It's quite natural in that time, because there wasn't any idea of nationality like it is in these days.
Lithuanians of Suvalkai become poles too, thats the same history like Vilnius region.
About 80% of the population of Punskas is Lithuanian. Its ethnically Lithuanian land, but its in Polish borders. Whats that? Its poor polish joke. I prefer good relations with Poland too, but Ill never forget the history of Balstoge - „bialystok, Augustavas, Suvalkai, Seinai, Punskas...
And Poles of Silesia becomed Germans... this is just a natural process, until XIX-XXc it wasn`t forced, coordinated by the states officies. Białystok is a different issue, Baltic Lithuanians rather lived in another lands, there lived mostly Slavic Lithuanians (Belarussians). Augustów/Augustavas was founded by Sigismund August, that`s why this name.
And even if it`s like that it is... why in Poland cannot be little Lithuanian minority and in Lithuania Polish? What`s so strange about it?
Minoritys can be, but not too much as in 1920,or even today. In 1920, Vilnius, founded by lithuanian, "became" Poland's teritory because of huge "minority" of poles. For example, if there would be 2mlns „minority of lithuanians in Warsaw today, I would never say its Lithuanian city and it has to be in our borders. Because its Polish ethnic teritory. And even today, many poles in Vilnius says its Polish city. So, why they dont talk about Punskas or Seinai? There are big lithuanian minorities
I blame XIXc nationalism for conflicts in here and in many other places. As i told before, in medieval, renaissance or later Lithuanians who spoke Polish felt 100% Lithuanian, language was not that important, as it is now. I understand that it made big troubles, but it wasn`t any 'strategy' or something, it was natural process. Note, after WWI many states were re-created, including Lithuania and Poland, our little conflict was nothing unusuall. Vilnius is a city and it 'belongs' to its citisens.
I don't believe that it was not a strategy or something worse. That was ulterior strategy. After any Union with poles there was "good conditions" for lithuanians little by little become poles. This situation was good for Poland or any other hostile country to Lithuania at that time. A man with different nation and language is nothing for his country, his children also is nothing and so on.
You want me to proove it wrong? I`m afraid it`s you who should proove it right... I tell you once again, national identity wasn`t related to language before XIXc, Polish speaking Lithuanians felt just Lithuanian. How was that good for Poland? Becouse of union with Lithuania (under Lithuanian Kings btw) Poland was involved in conflicts with Moscow, Teutons and Tatars... When Poland was hostile toweards you, except of 1919-20?
Sequel> Russian empire also tried to make us russians at the period 1864-1904. Unlike the poles Russia tried to make us russians forcibly. Lithuanian press and language was banned. And thats why we resisted. At the same tactics like Poland they could reach „better results.
I tell you, Poand had no such "tactic" becouse at the times of union noone cared about language, before renaissance the ONLY language of documents, prayers, books etc was LATIN. Was it a Romans "strategy" than? Ans is it a Brits "strategy" that we`re speakng ENGLISH at now??
