I think that people mistake that it is the government's job to carry out responsibilities that historically and biblically belong to the church which has over time abdicated those responsibilities. However, they quit doing the things they were called to do because during the transition from a more conservative society to more socialistic philosophies, the government basically imposed itself into the churches realm of influence with the "New Deal" (FDR) and again with the "Great Society" (LBJ).
What are these historically biblical responsibilities belonging to the church that it has abdicated that the government now carries out?? What is the church's realm of influence?? There is a logical and legal separation of church and state. Government doesn't teach or legislate theology nor does the church execute public policy or laws. The church does attempt to establish a moral and Godly foundation from which government, corporations, families, etc. operate.
Historically the church took care of the orphan, the widow, the poor, the sick. The very first hospitals were started by the church when other entities ignored the plight of the suffering. Still today there are hospitals that are run by churches. Thomas Chalmers, using his Christian background, took charge of collecting contributions from citizens on a volunteer basis and reduced the cost of taking care of the poor for the government by over 1200 pounds per year. Not enough space to list all.

Just a couple of examples before I go to bed. Hospitals were started by the church; the gov't took that over and look at the condition it's in. Schools were started by the church; the government took that over and America ranks at the bottom in comparison to the rest of the world. Welfare, or assistance to the poor and needy was also started by the church...I think you get my point. Government gets involved, creates a problem, then makes claims that they'll fix the very problem they created.
There should be arrests and prosecutions for those conducting bad business practices because it amounts to stealing; but the Founders were very clear in their writings that the government should stay out of the free market.

I think that people mistake that it is the government's job to carry out responsibilities that historically and biblically belong to the church which has over time abdicated those responsibilities. I quoted Madison because the man would not have signed the Constitution without philosophically being in agreement with the document since it was going to be the driving force of our nation's law system. One must look at intent, and intent is admissible in a court of law when making a case to prove an action. The framers did not support things they didn't inherently believe. They backed up their beliefs and wrote about them in letters defending the same. His opinion held weight in the defense.

The govt has programs in place to help the needy and these programs are ineffective. Congress has a habit of wasteful spending. Ever wonder how a those Senators and Congressmen get paid? The government doesn't produce anything; they have no money. Their salaries comes from our taxes. Aren't their paychecks fat? Now they want more. They waste our tax dollars.

The garbage about helping the needy is to divide citizens. Your statement is proof of that. The problem is not that we as citizens don't want you to help; it's that we don't want the gov't deciding WHO gets help and who doesn't because they ALREADY waste what we give them. We pay more than enough for them to 'help' those in need. They don't do it because they are ineffective at it. They can take smaller pay and better spend our $, but why should they when they can create laws to steal it from us

Just a couple of examples before I go to bed. Hospitals were started by the church; the gov't took that over and look at the condition it's in. Schools were started by the church; the government took that over and America ranks at the bottom in comparison to the rest of the world. Welfare, or assistance to the poor and needy was also started by the church...I think you get my point. Government gets involved, creates a problem, then makes claims that they'll fix the very problem they created.

There should be arrests and prosecutions for those conducting bad business practices because it amounts to stealing; but the Founders were very clear in their writings that the government should stay out of the free market.

First Joe the Plumber and now Tito the Builder. These guys actually want whats best for America and know capitalism and free markets are the best way to promote growth. They want smaller less intrusive government and to keep more of their earnings. They are really true Americans. The problem is they're supporting a candidate and party that are simly using them as props and could care less about average workers. They don't know that they're supporting a tax the poor and give to the rich policy.

I agree, mickeysears. Even with the last part. My choice in the primaries was definitely not McCain, but as I'm sure you can agree, we always have to vote the lesser of 2 evils.
The McCain campaign as a whole may not care so much about Joe or Tito, but their appearance speaks volumes of how the average American, that understands the concept of free market and small government are not swooning for Obama.

Below average Joe and Tito both do what they do to make a living, GOD bless them. But being a plumber or construction worker does not make one a credible economics expert. The fact that Joe said Obama raising taxes on those making above $200K and lowering taxes for those making below that is socialism is indicative that he needs to stick to plumbing and stay away from discussions about tax policy.

I agree, a vast majority of American do indeed know the benefits of the concept of small government and the free capital markets. It's too bad that they are never shown in the media a choice that agrees with their policies. So they have to resort to voting for the lesser of 2 evils. But before they can get the candidates they want, they have to agree on what it is they want our government to be doing. I don't think we're there yet.
