i agree that Laurie Cabot is very showy, but who cares? the attention she gets is promoting a positive movement, and it's promoting her business. as a business owner she has the right to do so. i'm not a big fan of the Cabot tradition, but i think that Laurie is a smart person trying to do the right thing and we all owe it to her for making Salem, MA the "Mecca of Witches."
I don't like the Christian preachers either, but this is over the top. How can you be a martyr for a religion that didn't even exist when you died? They're all of full of it, both her and the preachers.
I dont think the guys speaking against her are listening to what she is saying. She is not claiming the women killed were pagan. She is saying their deaths helped to inspire the fight for religious tolerance. People need to learn to listen.
What I find interesting is that Giles Cory was perhaps the only person who knew about Witchcraft in Salem (we think), but he never said anything about it. So, he was pressed to death with stone layers on his chest. All he would say was "more weight" until he died by asphyxiation.
@BelleNex Indeed :). Silence is always powerful. Not only does it not give the wrong people info, but a monthly day of silence increases brain activity and thinking capabilities to the individual. If (Goddess forbid) that ever happened again, they'd have to kill me, so it would be pointless.
Uh - we don't exactly know about Giles Cory. He was the one of the accused who would not say whether or not he knew anything. So, he got pressed to death with stones on his chest - he still did not say. He just said "more weight" until he suffocated to death.

I will agree with the old man that Laurie has put a price-tag on her faith and her lifestyle. The last time I called her store, Jodie, her daughter, said that for a 1/2 hour consultation, Laurie charges $200. Thats JUST for the consultation. That was last year. I'm sorry, but I am a witch, and practitioner of the Craft of the Wise, but I do not like Laurie Cabot. I would actually agree with the preachers in the segment that she's putting on a show and trying to capitalize on history. In the craft, the wearing of ritual robes is not meant to be like within Christianity; a sign of our faith. Within the craft we practice skyclad or in robes to set ourselves apart from the mundane world. Presenting ourselves in a special way to the divine.
Yeah, that guy in the church didn't understand what he was saying. As Leslie448 truthfully said: "A hate crime is still a hate crime." These people died because people thought they were witches. It doesn't matter if they really were or not. It's left to us - the only people left that care about their memory - to honor them.
My apologies for favoriting this video. After looking at the video I find it to be very biased. In modern times we take into account perceived identity. It doesn't matter whether they were witches or not. A hate crime is still a hate crime even if the victim wasn't actually what their persecutors thought they were. The events in Salem simply show how bigoted and fanatical the Christians were in that time. They did hate crimes against all of these people and they were murderers.

witchcraft means a waste of time and people wasting money coming to salem to see the witches...it is because of you that the city attracts people from all over the world in october and make the streets way tooo busy. They had nothing to do with witchcraft in the first place......what I am trying to say is this: why do you claim to be a witch in Salem , MA??? You are using the misconception of witches in salem to your own benefit....you such you bitch I mean witch
"All publicity"... Right, and the stickers people put on the streets saying "What you need is JESUS!" and those people trying to convert everyone they see is what?
@ManelinhoAraujinho Although I agree with you 100% you got to remember that Laurie sort of does it for publicity not only for her religion and rights, much like gospel preachers do over tv (as irritating as that is)
@666BrotherofMetal Well if she expresses herself in that manner it will educate more people that this is a religion. We have a lot of other religions that do a lot of harm to people ...I been to many churches and seen a lot.... Mormons with child abuse..none LDS...Jim Jones, David Berg, Children of Christ, Catholic church with sex with child cover ups, I can go on and on..and I study and been to many churches..Salem has been one of the most peaceful...Harm none!
@TheIchiban1974 Yes, it will educate them that all witches or pagans wear black and have funky70's hair and wear symbols on their faces.... There are LOADS of really devout pagans and witches I know personally that don't even wear robes. She is an inspirational person though...
okay, so, you have me there. and when the Romans took over the Celtic territory, they did mix native beliefs and Christianity. The reason why i said that its been Paganism has been around since the Celtic period is because that is when it is most commonly discussed. That's how most people heard of it.
how do they really know that the people executed in 1692 didn't practice witchcraft. they just murdered people. some of the people who died were most likely witches.
No, they were all Christians. The accusation of "witch" didn't mean nature-based religion back then, it meant devil-worshipping, flying through the sky on a broom, eating babies, and having sex with the devil, plus putting curses on people.
The witches that people feared never existed.
On a related note, none of the executed were pagans. None of them were witches. They were Christians falsely accused by fellow Christians.
i was just saying that they weren't given a chance to explain. i mean, the pagan religion has been around since the Celtic period. so i was just saying that maybe a couple of the convicted. and, i know they couldn't be Wiccan because that wasn't thought up until about the 1950's, based off of the Pagan religion.
In the broadest sense, the term "Pagan" means non-Christian. Paganism was the first religion, dating back to the origin of modern man, far before the Celts.
However, the point is that NONE of the people accused of being "witches" in Salem were actually witches, let alone Pagans, save for Tituba who might have been a mixture of native beliefs + Christianity.
The myth being spread is that the victims were witches/pagans & were persecuted for such. This is completely wrong.
i want her books where can i get them!!?..wow i want to meet a witch, i always wanted to become one but, the good one. i perfer purple or something color to wear unstead of a solid black ropes....oh=ew-oh yeah i also want a dragon as a pet. Thank you.
She actually has a point because, if the witch trials hadn't happened back then, they could happen today. In other words, we learn from our past mistakes.
Its a pity that so many Liberals today completely twist Anglo-Saxon culture into depicting them as peace-loving,gatherers who wandered the woods. The Saxons were hired by Rome as mercenaries to slaughter the picts and the huns. The Saxons were a masculine culture,as were most Germanic tribes. Wotan the furious.....was not Liberal,I promise. lol
Stop twisting what our ancestors believed to further your political agenda.
I dont recall the Saxons being mentioned in the Bible. However,I think it would be funny to watch you burn. Or better yet, watch some skinhead beat you to death. lol hilarious.
I'm liberal, but I don't make any statements about the germanic tribes or their beliefs, because simply, I don't know very much about them. It's not liberals per se, but pagans who wish to give a greater authenticity to their own beliefs by co-opting these old traditions and saying that these have been passed down to them.
While that is your personal position.... this is mine. Liberals are a plague upon humanity. They are a byproduct of life out of balance...of mankind squandering his natural power...man,in this state, has become decadent, weak and completely useless. This attitude, this "progressive world voice" is an absolute abomination. Pampering the weak, the demasculinization of society, kickback for lazy so-called "oppressed minorities" who have no business here anyway, perversity of the worst kind..
Might I add.. I am no right-winger....nor am I your average bigot. But you Liberal weaklings are nothing more than filthy parasites bent on destroying not just the moral fiber of the nation, but the natural element as well. You honor Lies before fact...and praise the weak as you chastise the strong. You go against the will of life..the great wheel of the law stating that the weak must die and the infirm shall perish. You are not exempt from this. Strength and might shall endure.
I know this. I am a Witch, have been for 30 years. I feel safer in Salem than anywhere else in the world. I watched a bank manager in a cloak, wearing a VERY expensive pentacle(not put on for show) open the bank in the morning. Anywhere else she would have been unemployed by the end of the day. They would have blamed the firing on something else but she'd still be out of a job. All that is due to LAurie Cabot and the trail she blazed for Witches there.
theres no evidence either way so christians should get lost we were still hear first before your god so screw you thats a historical fact u stole pagan sabbat etc. and perverted the pagan religions which came years before you so just find someone elses religion and belief to attack cause if it wasnt for you those poor women and men wont have been hung or burnt alive and u say were evil u need to take a good look at yourselfs and ur own god who let u kill incent people in the 16th century!!!!!!
Here's another thing: there is nothing wrong with capitalizing on it. This world is good, wealth is good, and if she gets paid to put on a good show then she's earned her money. It's not much different than throwing millions of dollars at Britney Spears who weaves her own illusion when she dances and gyrates on stage; she's being sexually enticing and encouraging fantasy. That's show biz for ya! And for witches, it's a form of magic.
funny that guy should mention capitalizing on witchcraft for Laurie after how much the church has capitalized on Christ perverting His teachings! Gosh!!!
I don't think this posted, but Ephemeran wrote: "in fact the word witch comes from the celtic wicce as wise." This statement couldn't be more incorrect. The word "wicce" or "wicca" is Anglo-Saxon, not Gaelic, in origin. Half of the holy tides of the Wheel of the Year are Germanic in origin, not Celtic (the solstices and equinoxes). "Witch" is a word that comes from the English culture and language, unlike "mage" or "magic" which is Persian in origin. Learn your languages, people!
Does anyone here even realize that the Anglo-Saxons were a Germanic tribe that came to Britain from the Continent in about the 4th or 5th century? Does anyone do their historical homework at all? Or do they just get stars in their eyes and think "oooh, black robes, ooky scary, I wanna be like that!" PLEASE! How can you pay no attention whatsoever to the reality of the lives of the ancestors, whose ways we're theoretically rebuilding??
And for her to capitalize on this and make money by it - great! It's like any other form of entertainment. It is not wrong, according to witchy ethics, to receive pay for a day's work and in a way she's no different from Britney Spears or any other blond buxom singer who encourages fantasies when they are up on stage singing and gyrating and wearing sexy clothing. It's all about fantasy and just ask Freyja and Freyr, the Lady and Lord respectively. They're into dreams and magic and wealth.
I want to know why so many of these "teeny-bopper" witches who post here have something against Anglo-Saxons and Germans and the English. They are never given the credit that is properly theirs in terms of much of Wiccan practice and even the origins of the words Wiccan and Witch themselves. When are you people going to realize the truth? Oh, that's right, you only go for "truths" that suit your dreamy, fluff bunny worldviews...
"Wicca" didn't come around here until the mid 1950s. If people claim it to be old pre-christian paganism, they are WAY off from what the pre-christians actually did. They have some true traditional groups here, and they do nothing similar to Wiccans today. "Wicca" goes in the same catagory as "New-age" to me.

Boy Laurie... YOU AGED BADLEY!!!! From when I knew you over 20 years ago. As for the peopl on here. I used to interview and recruit people that followed Laurie and others in Salem. Out of 300 people interviewed only 2 that had anything beneficial were recruited. if you all want to learn anything that will benefit you then look up Ingo Swann in New York his teachings are now declassified. Good luck!!!
They still denie the fact's, i think she is still doing good keeping history alive and well in the minds of those who would rather put it away notice one was from a christian church, my thoughts a new student in wicca blessed be. michelle
i met her and had a reading with her, and i feel she is genuine, because i am a sensitive and felt totally comfortable and at ease with her. so whoever meets or sees her, the belief is in the eye of the beholder.
I don't know her personally .But so what if she chooses to dress in her own style! that is her thing and the man who reported her a phony? well if this is true then may I say the pope is a charlatan. She like many other people have opened up their own business not CAPITALIZE on the arts.
I don't like this woman. I am a witch and i know many witches who would agree with the other people in this clip. She is all for fame. Lovely acting on her part though. She makes the rest of us- those who actually follow the path- look like childish fools.
The thing that I dont like is that some witches try to represent all witches by saying that they are good people and nature based and dont harm none when I know that theres tons of witches who harm anyone for any fucking reason, theres good witches and evil witches but christians shouldnt attack good witches. They shouldnt even hate, judge or accuse anyone of wrong doing for that is up to god as spoken in the bible.
MrV00d00 sadly you are right.the nature based witches that harm none are most wiccans.and are a lot of witches that are evil.people nature varies.some are good while others are not.
People will always be mixed about Laurie Cabot, I on the other hand have the up most respect for her &her coven, So what she tried to be an actress when she was younger, That shouldnt discredit her as a person nor should it descredit her beliefs of the old religion. I've read her books, and I personally think we need more people like Laurie cabot in the world, and alot less Jesus Crispys who are the first cast a stone with hate, instead of love and respect...
I am and will continue to pray for your deliverance & salvation laurie, & I pray for you In the Name of the Only 1 true God, Creator of all things who was & is & is to come, Jesus Christ

Yeah, that guy in the church didn't understand what he was saying. As Leslie448 truthfully said: "A hate crime is still a hate crime." These people died because people thought they were witches. It doesn't matter if they really were or not. It's left to us - the only people left that care about their memory - to honor them.
Elentaurel 2 years ago 3

ManelinhoAraujinho 2 years ago 19
@ManelinhoAraujinho Although I agree with you 100% you got to remember that Laurie sort of does it for publicity not only for her religion and rights, much like gospel preachers do over tv (as irritating as that is)
666BrotherofMetal 4 months ago
@666BrotherofMetal Well if she expresses herself in that manner it will educate more people that this is a religion. We have a lot of other religions that do a lot of harm to people ...I been to many churches and seen a lot.... Mormons with child abuse..none LDS...Jim Jones, David Berg, Children of Christ, Catholic church with sex with child cover ups, I can go on and on..and I study and been to many churches..Salem has been one of the most peaceful...Harm none!
TheIchiban1974 4 months ago
@TheIchiban1974 Yes, it will educate them that all witches or pagans wear black and have funky70's hair and wear symbols on their faces.... There are LOADS of really devout pagans and witches I know personally that don't even wear robes. She is an inspirational person though...

okay, so, you have me there. and when the Romans took over the Celtic territory, they did mix native beliefs and Christianity. The reason why i said that its been Paganism has been around since the Celtic period is because that is when it is most commonly discussed. That's how most people heard of it.
ErikNight94 2 years ago
how do they really know that the people executed in 1692 didn't practice witchcraft. they just murdered people. some of the people who died were most likely witches.
ErikNight94 2 years ago
No, they were all Christians. The accusation of "witch" didn't mean nature-based religion back then, it meant devil-worshipping, flying through the sky on a broom, eating babies, and having sex with the devil, plus putting curses on people.
The witches that people feared never existed.
On a related note, none of the executed were pagans. None of them were witches. They were Christians falsely accused by fellow Christians.
BoyintheMachine 2 years ago
i was just saying that they weren't given a chance to explain. i mean, the pagan religion has been around since the Celtic period. so i was just saying that maybe a couple of the convicted. and, i know they couldn't be Wiccan because that wasn't thought up until about the 1950's, based off of the Pagan religion.
ErikNight94 2 years ago
In the broadest sense, the term "Pagan" means non-Christian. Paganism was the first religion, dating back to the origin of modern man, far before the Celts.
However, the point is that NONE of the people accused of being "witches" in Salem were actually witches, let alone Pagans, save for Tituba who might have been a mixture of native beliefs + Christianity.
The myth being spread is that the victims were witches/pagans & were persecuted for such. This is completely wrong.
BoyintheMachine 2 years ago
Indeed. In those days, Pagan knew how to hide themselves very well.
The Inquisition's times were very useful to deal with enemies. All you had to do was get first to the Inquisitor or priest and accuse your enemy.

DanceTheSpears 2 years ago
ALL Religions started off as hate (murdering) cults. read the bible some time.
RivaWitch 2 years ago
I dont recall the Saxons being mentioned in the Bible. However,I think it would be funny to watch you burn. Or better yet, watch some skinhead beat you to death. lol hilarious.
DanceTheSpears 2 years ago
I'm liberal, but I don't make any statements about the germanic tribes or their beliefs, because simply, I don't know very much about them. It's not liberals per se, but pagans who wish to give a greater authenticity to their own beliefs by co-opting these old traditions and saying that these have been passed down to them.
Scardy 2 years ago
While that is your personal position.... this is mine. Liberals are a plague upon humanity. They are a byproduct of life out of balance...of mankind squandering his natural power...man,in this state, has become decadent, weak and completely useless. This attitude, this "progressive world voice" is an absolute abomination. Pampering the weak, the demasculinization of society, kickback for lazy so-called "oppressed minorities" who have no business here anyway, perversity of the worst kind..
DanceTheSpears 2 years ago
Might I add.. I am no right-winger....nor am I your average bigot. But you Liberal weaklings are nothing more than filthy parasites bent on destroying not just the moral fiber of the nation, but the natural element as well. You honor Lies before fact...and praise the weak as you chastise the strong. You go against the will of life..the great wheel of the law stating that the weak must die and the infirm shall perish. You are not exempt from this. Strength and might shall endure.
DanceTheSpears 2 years ago

And for witches, it's a form of magic.
sundragon0330 2 years ago
funny that guy should mention capitalizing on witchcraft for Laurie after how much the church has capitalized on Christ perverting His teachings! Gosh!!!
anto975 2 years ago 3
I don't think this posted, but Ephemeran wrote: "in fact the word witch comes from the celtic wicce as wise." This statement couldn't be more incorrect. The word "wicce" or "wicca" is Anglo-Saxon, not Gaelic, in origin. Half of the holy tides of the Wheel of the Year are Germanic in origin, not Celtic (the solstices and equinoxes). "Witch" is a word that comes from the English culture and language, unlike "mage" or "magic" which is Persian in origin. Learn your languages, people!
sundragon0330 2 years ago 3
Does anyone here even realize that the Anglo-Saxons were a Germanic tribe that came to Britain from the Continent in about the 4th or 5th century? Does anyone do their historical homework at all? Or do they just get stars in their eyes and think "oooh, black robes, ooky scary, I wanna be like that!" PLEASE! How can you pay no attention whatsoever to the reality of the lives of the ancestors, whose ways we're theoretically rebuilding??
sundragon0330 2 years ago 2
And for her to capitalize on this and make money by it - great! It's like any other form of entertainment. It is not wrong, according to witchy ethics, to receive pay for a day's work and in a way she's no different from Britney Spears or any other blond buxom singer who encourages fantasies when they are up on stage singing and gyrating and wearing sexy clothing. It's all about fantasy and just ask Freyja and Freyr, the Lady and Lord respectively. They're into dreams and magic and wealth.
sundragon0330 2 years ago

MrV00d00 3 years ago
