Ugh, does no one read the description? This is a SILENT film, Its quite old and is technically the prequel to The Shining. If you watch this film, it explains what the hell is going on in The Shining.

"Here's Johnny!" was a phrase made popular by the Johnny Carson show, which ran from the 60s to 90s. It was used in The Shining and is sometimes identified with Jack Nicholson's famous axe scene (which is why it's in the titles - to connect the two movies' axe scenes).

Broken Blossoms actually predates this axe-through-the-door scene by a couple of years. So, The Shining may referencing more than one film for its famous axe scene.

You bet he's saw it. Kubrick watched a lot of films since he was a teenager. He watched a lot of films at a New York museum while he was a magazine photographer. The man purportedly watched films new and old all of his life. I'd totally believe it if he took reference from a Victor Sjostrom film for The Shining. Last Year at Marienbad already plays a huge structural part in that film.
