there is also ONE link where an Austrian (Carinthian, I am from there) choir sings this song in German. But still i think this version is the best.

There is also a version with Andrei Rieu and a big choir,also excellent.

Breath-taking.. my grandfather's favourite song he used to sing as a solist of the Katya Popova'a choir (Pleven, Bulgaria.) & he used to sing it at home too. The parable about Kudiar resounds so strong in my mind.

Ich hörte dieses Lied zum 1. mal mit 15. Heute bin ich 58 und bekomme immer noch Gänsehaut. Das Lied sang damals ein toller Musiker (Tuba) der " Altburger" . Bei diesem Lied vergisst man diese Menschen niemals. Danke!

@Wanderwd One of my fondest memories was taking my Dad to hear this choir. He taught music, but had never experienced anything like what we heard at that concert. It was a wonderful surprise for both of us.

In my 80 years I have never heard anything even close to it in a choir.

I have a Russian daughter-in-law who practices medicine in Alberta. She married my son in St. Petersburg & following the ceremony, we had a guided tour of the Hermitage.....an experience I will never forget.....rich with Russian passion and pride. @TheBlueBirdMan My sentiments exactly Blue Bird! I saw them in concert at Orchesta Hall in Chicago in 1952. They'd been sold out well in advance and based upon demand for tickets scheduled concerts on Monday and Tuesday at the Eighth Street Theater, and I was able to get four tickets for my family....Gradfather who'd served as a Cadet in the White Russian Army. In 1961 I sang next to one of these Basses, who'd come from Pittsburg for a dedication of a Byzantine Rite Church in Chicago.

@Wanderwd I had the experience of hearing them twice in concert, 1952 in Chicago. First on a Sunday at Orchestra Hall. They were sold out and had so many ticket requests they scheduled another concert at the 8th Street Theater, and I was able to get four tickets for that....taking an Aunt, my Mother, and her stepfather who'd served as a cadet in the White Russian Army. They were magnificent...began the concert singing "America the Beautiful" like a choir of Angels!

Unvergessen - und das bei meinen erst 34 Jahren - ein bei Glühwein gehaltenes Spontankonzert mit diesem Lied in einer Holzhütte auf einem Weihnachtsmarkt. Sieghard Ohliger als Solist... - davon zehre ich noch in 50 Jahren - es ist und bleibt unvergessen !

Ich hatte das Glück unter Arnold Kempkens zu singen - er war unser Chorleiter...

Natürlich das zuerst. :-) Und auch an russische Bekannte und Freunde, zum großen Teil selbst ausgebildete Sänger, die dieses und andere russischen Lieder ab und zu mal bei Feiern oder so gesungen haben, wenn ich auch dabei war. :-) Und an die Kommunion von meinem Bruder, wo mein Onkel, Vater und die ganze Familie die deutsche Version gesungen haben, von mir am Klavier begleitet... :-)
