  • Your'e not getting on my bus with that thing !!

  • My god, that bass banjo must weigh a ton! Do they still make Brillcream?

  • @RSW1950 LOL! strangely enough, I've often wondered...didn't mens' hairstyles back then smear anything they touched, like furniture, pillows, girlfriends' hands, hat bands, etc.?

  • My god, that bass banjo must weigh a ton!

  • 2 minutes is plenty.

  • As intricate and well executed as this is...I can't help but think of someone dropping the silverware drawer, over and over.

  • LOL a banjo bass!! Looks like he has a support rod to help hold it up, like the cello does...

  • It's Joe.E Brown.

  • well gang I hate to say it, but that looks like Christopher Walken sitting next to Franklin D. Roosevelt.

  • on the huge banjo the one guy is holding, there seems to be a cord coming out of the bottom of it. Did they have amplifiers back in the 1930s for string instruments?

  • @1276epr no. It's a pole with a round ball at the end used to hold up the instrument. Surely you realised it's heavy?

  • @hectobar LOL I had no clue, I was too busy trying to find look-a-alikes in the band

  • we are the boys and girls well know as the minors of the abc ha ha

  • Oh Yes !! The metronomic precision delivery of an intricate piece of music, , punctuated by the drum roll and crashing cymbals ; all delivered with almost deadpan discipline. The banjo is a difficult instrument to play !! The change over to the 'sawn-off banjo , by the little fella, centre front is very nifty and he manages a sort of smirk afterwards. Looks like Oscar Wilde look alike back row on right. Great piece. Thanks for posting it. It brightens an otherwise dull day.

  • @postwar46 LOL this group did have a lot of look-a-likes in it, didn't it.

  • @postwar46

For those who care, the "sawn-off banjo" is a mandolin-banjo, made to play mandolin music with a banjo tone.

With modern string technology, they were able to shrink cello banjos considerably, and the new ones made by Gold Star are small enough to play like a regular banjo. But still noticeably larger than a standard instrument.

  • Can't stop watching it... a rare find.

  • Sweet! I like the banjo.

  • Hey, what's that 5-stringer doing in there??

  • the 5th string is off ; many players used too play on a 5 string tuned like a plectrum and with only the 4 strings

  • Phenomenal stuff! Any ideas as to the date of this piece?

  • Cool ol' timers video!!! Whenever I watch these old movies/videos, the first thing that goes through my mind is ... "I wonder if ANY of these guys are still alive?" I know it really isn't relevant, but that's what I ask myself ... COOL though!

  • whoa! this is cool!

  • That king size banjo is too kool - Thanks so much for posting this.

  • wow, that's one huge banjo..The guy on the left looks like President Roosevelt!

  • @texanleons yes and the guy in the middle looks like Joe E. Brown
