  • and that's only a radial

  • europe-dinghy FTW!

  • I weigh 110 pounds and I tried to sail a full rig laser in 5 knots and it did not work out well!

  • that is soooooo fun reminds me of the summer!

  • That's awesome! Btw nice camera

  • not much- teens

  • can you tell me the wind speed???

  • he should have used a full

  • OHHH!! Chris Stocke my HERO!

  • I love sailing at SSS

  • he is hauling!

  • what wind speed does a laser start planing in for an average weight sailor?

  • @wildblue2 10 knots i think

  • @wildblue2 if your around 170 in a full rig you will start planing in flat water at around 13-14 knots on areach

  • Ive had an old laser sink on me before..... not fun. Note to self, never use a boat that has been on a beach for 5 years without checking it for leaks first...

  • Sometimes? I find that remark offensive.

  • rockingham?

  • Shitty camera

  • Shit quality

  • thats so awesome

  • great quality!

  • 14 knots give or take a few? Had he have had the board up he would have added atleast 2 knots here. Great sailing though.

  • now is that is what I call sailing

  • pull up the the board

  • i was once a mere mast when i went so..:-)

  • dude is this guy wearing a life jacket i dont wear mine all the time but when its blowing you really should espesily on a small boat

  • and im loving this downwind run. looks perfect! weight at the back of the boat, sail right out, and cant tell but is the kicker loosened? or were you rolling too much?

  • lasers are always fun. strong or light winds!

  • true!

  • 'cuz the laser is a life of hiking and pain!

  • so you have to be tough.

  • they are only a life of pian if u are a pufter

  • wat do u mean 'SOMETIMES lasers look fun'

  • how fast is he going there?

  • it looks like he is in the tauranga harbor next to the strand

  • i love broad reaching on days like those :)

  • hes got a perfect sail set :D just the right ammount of leech twist

  • @DistortionGreen yeh defo. reach setting so the leach isnt hooked or too open. could possibly luff in the power zone a little more by the way he came out at the mark but nice, very nice

  • I think I have raced him...

  • excellent

  • ive sailed there

  • In my experience Lasers are light, fast, maneuverable, and extremely durable. For a small boat, I think Lasers are as good as it gets.

  • what do you mean sometimes?!?!!! it is always fun! "only a sailor knows the feeling"!

  • thats exacly right....sailing never gets old..sailing is my life.

  • i've always been taught sit back on a reach tapping the waves tends to sends some of your velocity into the water. But meh whatever works i guess

  • it would definitely be faster to sit forward in those waves if there were big waves that the bow could go down into that would be different though

  • If you look at the shape of a lasers hull, its flatter at the back therefore better for planing, you heard of the boat whisperer?

  • Super nice!!!!!

  • sometimes???

  • sometimes???

  • on some boats like scows even tho a lazer isnt one u want to get back and get the bow up it helps the boat get up onto a plane and keeps from burying the bow in big waves

  • plane bitch plane!

  • wow videos like these make me really want a laser!

I've tried a laser full in about 15 knots of wind once, but it was really difficult for me, being only 135 pounds.

Do you think i should race a laser full this winter?

  • since you dont weigh much you can always get a 4.7 or radial (4.7 m2 or 5.7 m2 sail)

i weigh 62 kg (136 lbs) and i sail a radial (5.7 m2)and thats fine with 13 knots or underbut around 15+ knots or more it gets abit hard for me so if you are planning on sailing with like 15 knots + then i would go for the 4.7

if you choose to get a laser HAVE FUN!

  • this is slow as and their isn't any wind he sitting to far back

  • Dude, do you have any experience in sailing???

    That is fast!

And the reason why he is sitting so far back is biceaus his bow wouldn't dive. That can happen with much wind from the back.

I can tell, I sail a Splash, very similar to a laser and with wind above 6bft from the back, I allso go sit more to the stern biceaus the bow allways want to dive.

  • Splash is the dutch copy of laser (:

just like X4 is the french and Yamaha Seahopper is the i dunno but its another copy of laser

  • yea we have splash here to but it is a reject class of the starling its like the splash exept a little smaller but it still goes faster

  • i am pretty sure i know how to sail in heavy winds i do live in new zealand and we get 30 knots reguarly but we always have the bow just skimming the surface of the water i don't mean to sit right ford just a little more

  • @Iamnotaemo

In 30 knots, the leverage of the sail tends to depress the bow. You have to sit even farther back just to keep the bow up, not down.

  • that is fast man

  • lol he might be sitting far back but this is fast man if u think this is slow then im sorry to say this but then u dont know much about the speed of a laser because this is fast

  • I have to agree with Lamnotaemo, he is sitting to back, the bow should be just kissing or tapping the wave. He is just sitting to back for the conditions. People can reply back and say whatever they want, but I no for a fact that is impropper,, not that it would make the greatest difference. One of my coaches is a laser sailor and that is one of the things he stresses when planing " kiss the bow"

  • thank you

  • lots of wind!!!!great balance..very good!
