  • that shit hurts so much

i'm in my bed now and can't walk

    =[

  • i have sciatica pain, my foot is turned out due to trauma if i walk with in turned normal the pain moves from the ass region to the region above my back ankle. i suspect piriformis syndrome. could i be correct?

  • Where was this video 3 years ago when I went thru a "failed" back surgery! I wish i saw it before my surgery! I have now been diaganosed with PS.

  • I use Ice every 2 hours to relieve pain from severe Piriformis Syndrome( Cannot sit down/lay flat on my back otherwise Im in for some pain)...Heat just aggravates it...

  • My wife is having a deep pain in her right bum and it has been a couple of days. She can't even walk without having pain. I am really worried. Just want to say thank you. I hope this will help her.

  • @Sherpagmex heat and lots of breathing. the toughest time is at the beginning, try not to aggravate the nerve. after a while start to work on the range of motion or do thai yoga.

  • Now I'm REALLY crying. I have suffered severe pain from my butt to my foot (rt) & my groin area since a fall crippled me in 2002. Could this be what I have? Could my entire team of Dr's missed this? How can I get your treatment without going all the way to Santa Monica, California? I would love to go there but don't have any money & am 61 years old, tho this pain makes me feel 99. God bless you Dr. Filler.

  • @livsw2muchpain I'd be tempted to search for a physiotherapist/sports therapist in your area.. Although this may not seem like a solution, a release of the piriformis/gluteus muscles should alleviate some/all pain.

  • very helpful video. thanks so much!

  • There are no MRN facilities in the UK. I had a lifting accident. Initially they thought I had slipped a disc but nothing showed up on MRI scans. It is the worst pain that I have ever experienced. I have been diagnosed as suffering Piriformis syndrome by my specialist. I have been off work for over 2 years now and am finally being referred to a pain specialist for treatment, with a view to a steroid or botox injection into the Piriformis muscle. Which is also very painful so I hear.

  • Hi,

I am from N.Ireland and I am wondering is there a scan in the UK that will scan my nerves? My girlfriend is polish and would she have something similiar in her country.

Please please send me a message back.

Ireland and the UK is sooooooo far behind in respect to medical and as usual it takes guys like you to advance treatment.

    Thanks

  • I think I have P S: I do not have lower back pain. or back pain.

I do have butt cheek pain and running down my leg. it is my right side. We drive on the right hand side and my accelerator leg gets aggrevated more. Could it be how I drive or position the drivers seat, being too far away and stretching my foot down? . I drive often. Looking at your video the pain does follow the piriformis muscle down the siatica nerve. Sitting agrevates it evry time I study

  • @jiha003 - Sounds like you could be suffering Piriformis syndrome. (I am not a Doc!)...A deep gnarling pain in buttock is a symptom caused by the piriformis muscle irritating the sciatic nerve, which can be unbelievably painful in bad cases. The pain in the leg, again could be related to siatic nerve irritation in the hip. I suffer pain aggravation when in a car for any period. Suggest you go see your doc.

  • Only thing with me is, doctors still haven't been able to diagnose me properly. They send me home to take medications for the rest of my life. At this rate I will die from liver disease! I've seen 3 orthopedics, 3 rheumatologists, 1 rehab therapist, 1 physical therapist. And what really has helped is a combination of muscle relaxer, NSAID, and deep-tissue massages. *Sigh* It's SO frustrating :'( I read someone's post that they charge a lot for this procedure. How sad. We're really hurting here.

  • I would recommend to fly from wherever you are to see Dr. Filler. He is the only one in the world that has the knowledge and the technology to see your body for what it is and what it needs! My fiance was the worst case Dr. Filler had ever seen and if he can fix him, he can fix you. We were doomed to a miserable life in pain and suffering - imagining what could have been - but with this man, who is a Godsend, we can now be a happy couple, get married, and have wonderful quality lives!

  • @jennmccumber

I found your note very interesting. I live in australia but am seriously considerinng a trip to see Thanks veryDr Filler as I am suffering significant leg pain consistent with the symptoms of piriformis syndrome. Can I ask you-Was it difficult to get in to see him? How long was the wait? Thanks very much

  • ive had piriformis syndrome since my soph year in high school and im a freshman in college now,, what happens is i will have pain in the buttock and lower back and i will hurt on the left side for 3 months, go away for 1 or two months, then come back on the right side for 3 months, this has been goin on since my sophomore year, around the same time each year from when it started is when it comes back.

  • @KRUDD4 Same here! It's not so much the pain that's annoying but the inconsistency of the matter! There is no pattern really. I took NSAIDs for 9 months straight, was fine for18 months, and pain suddenly came back. I've had no injury to blame this on. It gets more irritated when I get stressed or freak out about something. One leg will hurt for a long time, then stops; then the other will start in the same pattern! I can't even take just two steps without crying at times. So frustrating!

  • @KRUDD4

Wow this is exactly what's happening to me! I hurt the muscle in August of 2008 (as the china Olympics were ending) and now almost 3yrs later I keep reinjuring it and have pain. Have you found any solution to this? I'm even considering steroids (not prescribed if u know what I mean).

  • @KRUDD4 same thing with the 3mos on, 1-2mos no symptoms. Stretching and heat help, but don't cure. I truly feel your pain!

  • I was up visiting my dad (I'm eleven) I have had pains with my back for about 3 months now. :( I was playing basket ball the day before fine and then another day my dad gave me a playful smack on my side (Not hard don't worry no abuse) and I roze up in pain around the 'buttox' area I couldnt walk, I couldnt even shoot a basketball. One day I couldnt walk down the stairs! Help!

  • @2010AmericanGirl2010

I went for a layup when on the court by myself, landed and fell straight forward into the ground, I can't seem to figure this injury out. It's probably the most annoying injury ever, I just want to stab the muscle with the knife, nothing helps the pain except narcotics.

  • @Loriel13 I hope you get well, sometimes i wish i was a doctor so i can help people and not worry about money too much.

  • Dear Loriel, Buttock and back pain affect up to 30% of the US population of 300,000,000 people. That is 90,000,000 people. Of these, probably 1% have piriformis syndrome. That is 900,000 people. If every one of these people wanted to talk with Dr. Filler for free for 15 minutes, then how many staff would he have to hire if his offices are open 8 hours per day, 5 days per week?

  • I was just diagnosed with this condition... I thought maybe this may help someone else out there who suffers from the same symptoms.........

  • @CODweezE how did you get diagnosed? what tests were done and which type of doctor specializes in sciatica?

  • @CODweezE

    Hi,

I have just been diagnosed with Piriformis syndrome...Interesting sensation huh :(......You are not alone :)

  • @al8960

wow I feel great to know other people understand my pain, it's hurts so deep in the buttock that massaging doesn't even help, I punch myself there with my knuckle

  • Respond to this video... Brilliant.

  • this vid may be the most helpful one on Youtube. Thank you Doctor. Would like any treatment available to treat my sciatica (a new condition), but I live 800 miles north of you. Will proceed first with trigger point massage therapy.

  • Both my sister and my brother-in-law's niece have been treated by this doctor. They both had immediate relief. My sister now feels her toes that were numb from the last 10 years. The niece is now living life with joy and is pain free.

This doctor is the real thing. It's a pity some people are calling him a quack. They are wrong, period.

  • @Youngdean007 I don't think you can have done your research Dean. For a start he does not refer to it as an MRI , its called an MRN. His qualifications are pretty impressive for a 'Snake Oil salesman' as you claim he is. He has also been published in the journal of neurosurgery. Where are these reviews that say he is rude and egotistical? I certainly can't find them.

  • Thank you so much for this. After spending 3 months being treated for sciatica problem and still getting no relief I kept saying that the pain was in my butt. After I reviewed this video. I was able to clearly stress where the pain was and that I wanted my specialist to consider I may have a problem with my piriformis muscle. I do not believe its rare I truly believe its under diagnosed. I am now being treated for piriformis syndrome and I can tell you this my butt and I am very grateful!!

  • Try having posttraumatic piriformis syndrome in England. Painful and no one has a clue! I was advised that all I could do was have disc's fused. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BACK ! Thank you Dr. Filler. Thank you. . .just knowing about PS doesn't cure but it does help.

  • Tremendous video very helpfull.

  • Thank you for this validating information! I live in Ventura CA and plan to contact you for diagnosis. My family and friends try to understand what I am going through but until you have suffered from PS you have no idea!

  • i had an MRI done two months ago on my right shoulder....they found nothing....i went again a month and a week later, (the doctor told me it was my choice if i wanted to get another one or not), and they said they found a tumor in my shoulder!! i went to the clevlend clinic 3 days later and they said that the MRI was done wrong, and the radiologist hadnt "tweaked it right" and the tumor is actually scar tissue...i was just wondering what would'va happened if i didnt get the second MRI?

  • How many patient have to surgery due to PS in U.S.A?

  • Do the shot work with relieving PS I've tried everything. I really don't have pain in my back I have told numerous doctors and chiropractors. I'm beginning to think there just juicing the situation. I'm really looking for relief from this, bending over doesn't hurt but rather relieves the pain when it tightens up.

  • I have been suffering with Piriformis Syndrome for two years now. I fell off a ladder at work onto my right lower back and buttocks. I have had numerous MRI's, X-Rays, bone scans done and absolutely NOTHING has shown up on a diagnostics tests. Finally, my doctor gave me the test to see if it was PS and sure enough it was. So, I'm glad to see this video.

  • I wish I would have seen this video before I visited my last 20 or so docs and chiros. They all said it was my disc, but I always thought it was something in my rear end even though my MRI does show a bulging disc. Why else would I get immediate relief or change of comfort from a piriformis stretch. Thanks doc.

  • Sorry, Piriformis Syndrome is VERY RARE! Also, just because something doesn't show up on diagnostics doesn't mean it's not coming from the spine. Tons of studies on this. You can examine the piriformis after you've r/o the L/S and other surrounding structures.

  • The alleged rarity of Piriformis is a controversial matter. In fact, it seems that PS is largely underdiagnosed.

  • Well, you can test for Piriformis; however, many just start digging in to treat it w/out testing it first. In my 20+ years of treating spinal pain with and without radic., I might have had less than 5 who I would say likely had PS. If patients do not present with potential for viscerogenic or systemically caused LBP and the like, and LB eval is inconclusive, then I can proceed to test for PS.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video! It makes it much easier to explain this to friends and family who want to know more about my quality of life with piriformis syndrome.

I've finally got the diagnosis from a doctor last week. He treated me with a cortisol injections (guided by his hands and knowledge of anatomy along with my reactions to probing the muscles) and I've had instant relief. I know that my case was particularly bad.

  • I could only walk somewhat painfree for maybe a week out of a month, but mostly laid up in bed or a recliner.) I am now doing the stretches several times a day and my husband is helping out by massaging a few areas of the piriformis muscles.

I know I have piriformis syndrome due to my hypermobility in my sacro-iliac area, so I am continuing to work on my physical therapy to strengthen up my core area as much as possible. Adding the stretches will best help me to live a pain-free life.

  • Has anyone here been a patient of Dr. Filler? I am considering going to see him, but I live in Hawaii and I suffer from back pain as well as neurological problems. I have called his office but I can never speak to him.

He seems to be a world-renown neurosurgeon, but I am wondering if I should go for treatment with him. I would sincerely appreciate any comments or advice you could give me concerning your experience as his patient. You may send me an email if you wish. Thank you.

  • Stretching helps with me... I have had a lot of relief with piriformis stretching..

  • what cause this to start? Are there other ways to heal it without going to Cali? I have hear that stretching may help? Would love to just go to the Doc (was very informative, thanks) but not everyone can travel or pay for it.

  • Hi, would you kindly repost this video, I have been trying to watch it for a couple of days now but each time I get a message from You Tube saying "We're sorry this video is no longer available."

  • After seeing 15 Dr's and having a failed invasive surgery from Dr's in Texas for pirimormis syndrome (these guys are well known neuro surgeons) My brother, a 20 year medical practitioner, finally went to California to be treated by Dr. Filler. He just had surgery after the neuro MRI explained why he could barely walk and was suffering from such extreme pain. It's been just two days since surgery and he can actually feel areas that were numb for the last two years. I'll keep you updated!

  • Don't know how I hit the "down" thumb. Mistate...

  • Tell you what, this is the most annoying and excruciating pain I have ever felt, and for three weeks straight with massive flare-ups every morning... Haven't worked for 3 weeks now. It really really hurts, so anyone watching this, take the advice of this doc. He seems to know what he's talking about.

  • Good video. He failed to mention another non-invasive technique that has been around for over 100 years: chiropractic. Just look up upper cervical and sciatica. Very interesting how those doctors dont have to break the skin at all and get better results.....

  • ryderguy18,

I have had piriformis syndrome for over 3 years now and have gone to many different docs and also two different CHIROPRACTORS. The chiro could not relieve my pain or correct the problem whatsoever. I am in the process of going to see this Dr. Filler even though I live over a thousand miles away.

Sorry dude, but chiro doesn't fix everything.

  • Hye! Your video is very informative-thank you for this. I have a question. Say if your glutei is irritated by heavy overhead barbell presses, push ups then would you say that a disc bulge scitica is more of a possibility than piriformis sciatica? What are the activities than can cause piriformis sciatica? What about heavy partial squats (with no regards to proper form), deadlifts , overhead presses? Wrongly done-are these exercises going to irritate your lower back discs or your piriformis more?

  • It's a very informative post. Thank's.

  • Thanks a lot! This is really helpful!
