@Potaville And how do they pay electric and water (and in some cases gas)? Fly a sign that says " Home Dweller Need to pay Electric"? In theory it's an awesome idea but they will still be out panhandling ( and most do drink and use drugs... don't let them lie to you). California has places (many places) that are publicly funded from the same type of people that would give money here. They pay for a homeless persons rent in a house for 2-6 months,ect. They just have to get a job. And it works.
Tents are substandard housing. Only greedy uncaring people would collect $3.5 million a year just to put chronically homeless adults in tents! The local Homeless Coalition agrees. They will also tell you that this money could be much better spent! What about the largest growing segment of the homeless population (women & children)? Should we not spend our tax dollars there first?
Could you imagine actually living in a tent? Give me a break. These Tent Cities should never be placed anywhere! Especially near a sub division? Give these human beings a home! Here's a news flash for you. if you are living in a tent you are still HOMELESS! Hello!

Not all homeless people smoke cigarettes.... I don't because I have no health care plan, so I don't want cancer. And beer? YUCK! Give me a 75 cent bottle of Faygo any day. As for having my 1500 dollar laptop, yes. No, I steal your neighbors Wi-Fi.
Please contact the president of catholic charities Frank Murphy with your location. His number is 727-344-1611. I hope all the home owners in your area would go along with your idea. Better find out first. In my opinion putting human beings in tents with no heat or water to live is a sad and ridiculous solution. With all the empty homes everywhere and all the empty businesses/motels this tent city idea should be forgotten FOREVER!
