We are all getting old they're getting old it is so sad. I am not fond of some of the music we are listening to now except Adel is an exception as she is good. The 1980's were a good time, both Bowie & Elton were touring Australia (Memories).
What an experience to hear this song again. I seen them Live at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney 1980. They are Legends, just like Queen, Bowie, Elton John etcetera
I would love to see a college marching band dressed like medieval Japanese samurais in samurai armor and helmets with samurai swords and the cheerleaders dressed in Japanese kimonos waving fans and dancing to this song! That would be cool!
Someone made a remark about American marching bands. They call it a halftime "Show" for a good reason! Grambling & Southern are known for the shows they put on. Don't like 'em then make your way to the restroom for halftime & don't watch. They're as much a part of the game as the football.
Tusk is his tally whacker. He called it his tusk -- however, here the word means something primitively lustful. I believe is was written in anger about Stevie. She wouldn't sing or stay on stage for the song at first. Later, it was such a success and such a powerfully expressive song that she joined in. (She had had a fling and it enraged him because it was behind his back. He said "don't tell me that you love him; just tell me that you need him--for sex.")
@captopilot - That's really interesting and explains a lot about this track. Thanks Captopilot! I'm gonna look for a biography about Fleetwood Mac cos they had pretty interesting lives....as a band.
Too bad sound & video quality are poor. *Content* (sound & vid) are fine; it's just the quality.
Also, how often does USC band play this live? Before I die I'd love to see it played live or, even better, play in a band that plays it live. (Trombone player here.)
@funch357 A little older now but would have loved to have twirled or played my flute, anything to perform with them. ( Twirler and flute player)......and Stevie was my Idol.!!!!!!
I wanna see a 30th anniversary remake of this classic with a college marching band dresses up as medieval Japanese samurais with samurai swords and a cardboard cutout of President Obama!
But at 1:43, the band members with the shoe-shine brush-helmets look a lot like Marvin The Martian - that little green, officious space alien who pesters Daffy Duck to utter distraction.
What was his acid little phrase, the [Blank] [Blank] "Space Maaa-JU-LAY-tor"?
I don't think there has been a song before or since that is QUITE like this. Most of my 7th Grade class was fascinated by this song when it came out...
@tomthefunky actually "baton twirling" is a primary skill for singlestick martial arts in Japan & Phillipines. I prefer two 5 ft staves - but I've been practicing bokken & staff for 20 years.
Love this...though for some reason, I thought it was the University of Alabama marching band that did this with 'em! XD Would've made sense..mascot's an elephant..song's called "Tusk"..ah, well. It's ages sine I saw this.
LOL, I use to watch this every Saturday night as a kid. Solid Gold brought your favorite artists of the day to a live audience where they lip synched their songs. Great entertainment when there was no internet and only 3 basic channels of television. Cable was still in its infancy and hardly anyone had it.
Why in the hell is Lindsey telling Stevie to sit down and trying to pull her down into her seat?! He really had it bad for her.....She really hurt him bad! It shows how angry he still was at her during these time period.
I love Fleetwood Mac....their songs give me....EARGASMS!!!!!!
Whether or not you liked the song and/or the album, the bigger point here is that this is from a time when bands had the balls to branch out and try other things; without selling out. True artists by their very nature aren't content with the status quo; they always want to try something new. Sadly, things today are very different.
@trilogypart3 Idk, The Spirit of Troy (aka, USC Marching Band) shuffled to Party Rock Anthem last week in the middle of their show and it was AWESOME. If that's not "branching out" I don't know what is. lol
@trilogypart3 Great comment, and unfortunately very true. Back in the day, I didn't like Feetwood Mac very much, but i thought this song was UBELIEVABLY BIZZARE, even for the 80's when music was ALL about the Artists creativity and being very different from each other. It broke every Rock, Pop conventional music rule in the book! I love it because its a BRILLIANT peice of true music artistry. Today, the majority of the music is all JUST made for MTV 15 year old kids. Thats why it doesn't last.
@endorphinz I was reading somewhere that this song is about the affair that was going on at the time between Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood, and that "Tusk" was a slang term used by the band for a certain male body part.
I have only just listened to them again after being a huge fan in the late 70's -early 80's and i forgot how powerful their music is, i know there was so much crap happening to them personally behind the scenes, but they were able to make that shit into brilliant songs. Needless to say, i am pulling out my old collection which means i have to get a turntable and Cassette recorder! But they are soooo worth it. Cheers to all the fans. and yes i am older nearly 45yrs old.
You know the members of the USC Marching band get a hell of a workout dancing around with those instruments on them, especially the ones playing the quads & the Sousaphones
@TheSabybaby - "first of its kind" in 1979?!?!? Using orchestras, church choirs, blah blah blah had been old news for more than a decade by then. GREAT SONG - but geez, get some perspective
