  • Daddy LongLegs 1: Cellar Spider (that one)

Daddy LongLegs 2: Harvestman (Looks like a spider, but doesn't make webs, and has both segments fused)

Daddy LongLegs 3: Crane Fly (those funny dancing insects you usually see in the garden)

  • usaly a long leg would win there most poisonous in the world they just cant bite humans cuz our skins harder than most of there prays

  • @MYsTiCxPRoDUcTioNsx ??? thats bullshit

  • @MYsTiCxPRoDUcTioNsx Lol you're talking shit, do some research kid.

  • @MYsTiCxPRoDUcTioNsx urban legend

  • get him the left the left in the yey thats the way

  • fraps ? wtf this vid is stolen

  • nope.. i use the software "Frap" to capture so that it can be imported to windows movie maker, instead of MOV..

  • Actually the spider shown is more than likely a true spider, (Pholcidae), also known as a cellar spider, or commonly Daddy Longlegs. It is often confused with a creature listed as being of the order (opilones), and it's common name is Harvestman. They are very similar physically but are two separate animals.

  • Will people do their research. Daddy long legs aren't spiders!!!!! They are part of the insect family. Not the arachnid family.

  • I knew... but most people still called it Daddy Long Legs Spider..

  • @Trophy92 they are called cellar spider

  • @Trophy92 There are three invertebrates called "Daddy Long Legs". The one with six legs and wings is a crane fly and as TenshiYudashi pointed out is a insect, Opiliones or Havestmen are arachnids (8 legs) with oval bodies, no venom, no webs, no fangs, they eat small bits of food and are usually scavengers or ambush hunters. The final creature is the cellar spider a true spider with web creating organs, fangs, venom, elongated body.

  • @TenshiYudashi Wrong. Cellar spiders and Harvestmen (whom both share common names[Daddy Long Legs]) are both classed as Arachnids. The difference being Cellar spiders are in the order Araneae(spider), while Harvestmen the order Opiliones, neither of which are classed as Insects.

  • @TenshiYudashi What scientist would rule any species out of its phylogeny? They wouldn't. I think you may be confusing some terms.

Arachnid[Class] is not synonymous with Spider[Order]. Also crabs and lobsters are not arachnids, and "arachnia" is not even a real term.

    Example:

    Harvestmen

    Kingdom(animal)>Phylum(arthropod, sub. chelicerata)>Class(arachnid)>Order(opiliones)

    Spider

    Kingdom(animal)>Phylum(arthropod, sub. chelicerata)>Class(arachnid)>Order(araneae)

    char limit

  • Meanwhile a lobster or crab's line would split off into a different sub-phylum, like this:

    Crab

    Kingdom(animal)>Phylum(arthropod, sub. CRUSTACEA)

  • if they build a web its a spider

  • @TenshiYudashi

Well, that really depends on what animal "daddy long legs" is referring to. If you are referring to the Crane fly (Tipulidae) then you are correct, it isn't a spider, it is an insect.

However, in my neck of the woods, the harvestman (Opiliones) is referred to as "daddy long legs," and while not a spider, it is at least an arachnid.

Then you have the cellar spider (Pholcidae) which is in fact an actual spider.

Aren't common names a bitch? lol

  • @TenshiYudashi actualy, you're wrong too :3

Daddy long legs (Harvestmen) arent spiders, or insects, but belong in the same family as spiders (Arachnids) like scorpions and fleas

  • @TenshiYudashi

The Pholcidae are a spider family in the suborder Araneomorphae

  • @TenshiYudashi Thats true, they are opilliones. However, there is a spiders called daddy long legs spider and people sometimes do not recognize the difference between a daddy longleg (opilliones) with the daddy longleg spider (pholcidae).

  • @TenshiYudashi Maybe you should do your research buddy, both creatures there are 100% spider.

  • @TenshiYudashi

This particular daddylonglegs(refers to three different animals) IS the spider. And true daddy long legs are not insects, they are Opiline. You are the one who needs to do his research. =P

  • @TenshiYudashi They are spiders. Maybe you should have done more research ( Wikipedia )

  • it's a spider eat spider world.

  • Oh wait I just read the comment below that it was a Cellar spider... nevermind then.

  • Thing is that Daddy Long legs isnt actually a spider, its a mite... So technicalllyyyy its an unfair fight.

  • Calrifacation that wasent a DLL that was killed. That was a cellar spider (one that hunts mainly other spider) DLLs dont have a body like that.

  • really ? Maybe that the Cellar Spider is just young, and being hunted , thanks for the clarification :)

  • No problem, the only advantge is the Jumping Spiders basically have better senses then a Cellar Spider

  • Good thing it wasn't a DLL for the jumper's sake. Couple of quick spins of silk and the jumper is doomed!

  • @screwme55 A cellar spider is the correct verssion of the daddy long legs spider....since out of the 3 things refered to as a daddy long legs, this is the only one thats an actuall spider.

  • i once seen one that wasnt gray.. it was silver and it was a giant O__O

  • ok i research on spiders ALOT the daddly long legs HAVE NO BLOODY VENOM AT ALL! how it kills it pray (usualy moths) is it captures it in its 8 legs then beats the moth to death like doing pushups then it eats it...its not deadly to humans dont even think that...w/e crackpot said they can kill a human LIED...just to calrify that

  • I already know about it

  • i know it was to tell other people that.

  • lol and if anyone does believe daddy long legs is the most venomous spider, watch the show mythbusters!!! They PROVED daddy long legs aren't as venemous as they seem to be.

  • The rumor that daddy long legs have the most potent venom yet can't bite is a COMPLETE MYTH. These spiders are capable of breaking through skin and are proven to not cause medically signifigant complications; harmless.

  • interesting fact DLL have the strongest poison in the world but they cant use it

  • yeah, i know it too, their pinch is too small to bite human skin.. and they have most potent venom

  • Well yeah but DLL are like almost everywhere in CA, when I see them in the room, I just capture them and put them in my garden for a good outdoor flies to eat, or just don't want it in my Room xD, the hugest one I had ever saw in my life is like 7 inches long o_O, 7 INCHES

  • yes they will be everywhere in the house especially on the ceiling

  • Did you know that DLL can kill a HS [ DLL = Daddy Long Legs, HS = House Spider ]

  • i knew earlier, watched on youtube, but don't think of our poor DLL here, DLL only active, huge and strong in other countries, in here all spider was not so predatory

  • hm.. i haven't seen those, i saw a huge Brown Recluse last week, but no video, photo only

  • Jumping spider versus a cellar spider or dust spider as they are known around here...
