I have been looking on the internet and so far have come up empty handed. Who is the tallest woman singing in the group (and with the darkest hair)? Please no answers that are guesswork, only an answer from someone who is positive who this is. - It is not Anita, Helen, June or Maybelle.
i'm feel i'm privilaged to have seen anita carter sing live in concert, the sound of her voice was absoultly MIND BLOWING! these clips don't capture it. she was the best ........ever.
As pointed out correctly below, June is not in this video. That's Anita singing lead, seated and playing guitar. She was just short of her 38th birthday and at the absolute peak of her beauty and her singing ability, which is second to no one...period.
Unfortunately, she suffered from arthritis and the effects of it (or, more probably, her medication) shortened her life and caused her tremendous physical problems. As June said after Anita's death in 1999, "She just faded away..."
@PeggySue1013 Eclipsed by her sister, June. Got older and overweight, probably made her less marketable to the trendy 'yoof' audience. Shame that people never saw through that, she had the greatest voice.
YouTube has videos of Anita singing with Hank Williams. If only he had lived, they could have made such beautiful music as a duo.Think of all the great songs he wrote in his short lifetime.
Anita has perfect pitch. I think part of the problem was that she couldn't (or wouldn't) disconnect from being part of the "Carter Family" June did to some degree but for Anita to 'get her due' would have required something of a makeover and, more importantly, songs written (or matched) to That Voice and some good production. By that I mean record her like they did the other female stars of the day, I think she was too shy. I read where she really didn't think she was all that good a singer
She didn't seem to get her due. I discovered her in the early 60s while stationed in Europe. Bought her album from PX and literally played it out. I couldn't believe her voice. She is a true phenom.
I never heard of Anita Carter before I started to listen to the Carter family songs which I made fun of when i was younger and my mother was alive. I am now a fan of classic country and Anita and Pattsy Cline are my favorites. thank you for this cd.
Robbie Hardin (far right) who sang with the family when aunt June was pregnant with John Carter had a stroke this past week, PLease keep her in your prayers. She was also a member of the Hardin Trio with siblings Bobby & Arlene.
second verse - " by noon my heart is broken" !!!!

Never mind - I've found the answer, it's Jan Howard - not a member of the family, but very talented.

In the movie Walk The Line, June (Reese Witherspoon) makes reference to Anita having the best voice of all the Carters. Right, too!
