  • @leedshunk. Thank you for your compliment. Of course there were two organs in those days, the 2-manual Orgue de Choeur at the east end, and the 4-manual Grand Orgue at the west end. Both played from one console, either together or separately. Thus it was possible to perform works like Vierne's Mass properly. I have a lot of unpublished recordings of the former Grand Orgue, and others with the Orgue de Choeur accompanying the singing. John Pryer(Théorbe)

  • The guy playing is Nigel Morris - the assistant director to music at the cathedral

  • amazing organ. i played Jerusalem on this organ yesterday. i might be giving a little recital at St. Chads next year. so should be good! David Saint= Amazing!! Organ= Fantastic!!

  • Is that David Saint at the console? The organ is superb. When ringing is interrupted by organ music I mind a lot less if it good organ music!

  • No it is not David Saint.

It may be one of the MasterClass Teachers.

I might be giving a recital at St. Chads Cathedral aswell as many other cathedrals around England so I will keep everyone posted as to when they are. Please subscribe to my account if you want me to keep you posted.

But, St. Chad's Cathedral Organ is Amazing!

  • @irkibby no it's not david , i remember the old organ , it needed work , but it was a tremendous instrument ,john pryor used to knock hell out of it on a sunday !!!!!

  • First piece is not the Bach prelude in C minor it's the F minor one he is playing BWV 534. And it's the assistant Organist playing Nigel Morris . St Chad's are lucky to posess a very fine instrument given that many Catholic Cathedrals have some really awful instruments. I have also played this organ the Swell Reeds are big as is the pedal reeds. Tihs organ has only 40 stops but it's range is dynamic and the stop list is such that Organ music from any period can be performed well .

  • first piece was bachs prelude in c minor

  • The piece he begins to play at 1:03 is Symphonie 1 "the Finale" by Louis Vierne. What he plays at 1:21 is the end of the piece. Quite Unusual. Was this a demonstration?

  • Yes, that's why I put so in the information box!

  • ...Maybe I should have read that first!!!

  • Nice Video thanks for posting this!

  • Iv played this organ david saint amazing player of the organ.

  • what a fantastic building and organ, especially the case. A remarkably resonant acoustic considering it's not massive!
