  • I just started on this one yesterday at my lesson! It's so pretty!

  • i love this piece... partita... and you play it very well... your the best sir .. I`ll wait if you play the chaconne of bach :)

  • Not my favorite rendition personally, but still wonderful talent nonetheless. :)

  • Mr. Ehle, I must say you have done a greater service to the spirit of music than has been seen by these eyes in a very long time. Music is about freedom, spirit, emotion, and above all else, inclusion. Everyone from every corner of the globe appreciates music, and you have endeavored to make it available to them for no gain. You may not rank among the famous virtuosos, but may live knowing you have brought more substantive gain to music than all but the greats who wrote these pieces. Thank you.

  • amenhotep84, I hardly know what to say, other than thanks for your incredibly kind words. I do wish you the very best.

  • To beautiful for words. I listen to this piece everyday at the moment.

  • I find that carbon fiber bows are too stiff. To make them more flexible they need to be made thinner. Then any extra weight could be added to balance. Personally i would want it as light as possible and one could take off quite a lot of material thinning the bow of course and still be strong enuff to support the pressure.

  • Just beautiful. Thankyou.

  • I read that not using a shoulder rest helps to get the right tune but it hurts my collar bone. Do you use a shoulder rest?

  • @Bobman4671 A shoulder rest shouldn't be causing pain. Play around with different shoulder rests--they're all made differently to suit different needs. I know I had to try on at least six of them before I finally found one that fit correctly!

Go to your local string shop and see if they'll let you try any on for free before you purchase one.

  • Every time I watch this I'm amazed at how easy and graceful you make it look. I studied this piece lately and it's so difficult to make look and sound so effortless. Something to strive for. Thank you.

  • Hi ilivetowrite, thanks so much, that was very kind of you. I hope things have been going well and you progressing on your violin! Good luck with it.

  • Perfect. No other word can describe it. Just love it, and you play it perfect.

Wish I could play like you... Hearing you play is like an inspiration for me to play each day better and some day become as awesome as you...

  • Hi and thanks, ungusfungus! Very nice of you to leave that comment for me.

  • Professor V:

I have been playing the violin for a year and a half. The first six months in an Academy but after that time I cannot go anymore so I am now learning by my own. I am following the Suzuki method and I do not expect to be professional at, only to play as a hobby. Recently I find your channel. It is very useful to me and I know that making this is very time consuming, so I want to say thank you very much for doing this.

  • hi, just a special request, you ended with Etude 25 of Kreutzer. Can you just do a walkthrough of 26? I've searched the web and I can't find a video on someone playing it. you are definitely someone who can play it.

  • You sound is great. But maybe in the future, it would be better to get a closer shot. so the viewer can better appreciate how you feel the music. Thanks, sir.

  • wait isnt this somehow related to chaconne??? it sounds a tiny bit different from chaconne though....hmm...

  • amazing i love the way you can play....=)))))

  • his playin is nice...bt..lol..what is he wearing???

  • Wow, the tone is so rich, it's vibrant! Its grea Sir!

  • this violin has a very nice sound

  • Dear Professor, how can I view all your videos in sequence, from beginning #1 to as high as they go, please? Thank you very kindly. Elliot

  • first time I've heard you play bach, very nice! my question to you would be how do you stay so relaxed?! Your bow arm in so free, despite double stop after double stop!

  • I love your videos, thanks professor :)

  • wow...that is amazing!

i'm just starting to play the violin...and your vids are very helpful! i'd like to thank for that :))

  • Thanks Todd,

I have been too busy to play my violin for the last 2 months but finally am back.

    Keep up the videos!!

I am an expat living in Peru and do not have access to a teacher other then you!

Please know your work is greatly appreciated!

    Ted

  • Thanks, Ted. Glad to be of some help with your violin studies.

    Best of luck!

  • You're awesome, Todd!

  • Hey Todd,

Through the years I've learned alot from your lessons as I can't really afford private lessons. Your advice and tips really helped me to reach where I am now. Thanks to you I can tackle the more advanced and challenging pieces and looking forward to play them.

Your instrument seems to have flawless tone. It's like mine in the hands of Heifetz or someone really skilled. May I ask what kind is it?

  • Hi GCG, Thank you. The violin was made in 1995 by Jennifer Becker. I've put her web address in the "more info" - section of this page.

I have several violins but believe this is the best by far. I didn't use it it my teaching videos, partly because it seems to overwhelm the video camera's mic at close range.

  • This is so beautiful !!!

    Thank you :) . . .

  • i've become so used to thinking of you as a teacher. its refreshing to see you in your element as an artist

  • Wow, this just made my week. I love your videos (i can finally perform springing arpeggios!), and i nearly hit the fan when i heard this...my interpretation sounds a lot like yours!

  • You really give a breathe of happiness to me

especially today, after I got back from Singapore and found out that my beloved pet, Tama died when I was in Singapore

I even plan not to practice violin today, but maybe I will

Just less practice hour than usual

    Thanks soooooooooooooooo much

  • I'm very sorry to hear about your pet, Tama.

God Bless and best wishes to you.

  • may I know what's its bwv number?

  • Hi, it's BWV 1004.

  • Cool.

  • it was like listening to the voice of god

that certainly made my day. thank you for such wonderful playing

  • Hi Todd,

Seeing you play certainly adds credibility to your video lessons - not that you needed any!

I'm glad to see you are able to play and practice again. I know first hand how dehabilitating violin related inflictions can be.

It looks like you have a good hall there at Del Mar. Great acoustics! I only hope you keep this on your channel longer than Pigeon/Bundoran ;-)

  • Thank you, Helen.

I hope things are going well for you!

  • nice double stops!

  • perfect. as always thks for this

  • Great job. This was cool. : ]

  • Candy to the ears, thanks.

  • Very very beautiful :3

  • Beautiful

    Thanks
