  • Nasa, Richard Gross

The quake also shifted the position of the Earth's "figure" axis (which is different from the planet's north-south axis). This shift in Earth's figure axis will cause Earth to wobble a bit differently as it rotates, but it won't cause a shift of the Earth's axis in space -- only external forces such as the gravitational attraction of the sun, moon and planets could do that.

  • IT'S SUMMERRR TIME.

  • It's summer time and put on your winter coat

  • I´m so glad I found this video! We´re learning about this at school. But I coundn´t understand anything about what we learned there....

  • around 1:19 ***

  • "put on your winter coat" HAHA around 1:21

  • Doesn't the axial tilt coincide with the magnetic north? I always thought that was why the earth tilted because the magnetic pole moves around.

  • nice video... helped me to tech my nephew in just 2 mins...

  • liked the music and the info.

  • thx for help

  • very helpful and good, but the voice is scary

  • very helpful and good, but the voice is scary

  • Thanks helped me in school :)

  • Thanks :)

  • like if you noticed they skipped 2:17

  • @DogsBFF62 Like nobody cares -_-

  • 63 Harvard grads don't know what causes Earth's seasons

  • ohhhhhhh

  • but why are some places always warm year round? southern hemisphere places are warm year round. not fair.

  • If (here in America) the shortest day of the year is Dec 21, and after that the days start getting more light, why are the coldest months jan and feb, still to come if were getting MORE sunlight after that??

    I can never understand this

  • @sausagenmuff The same thing happens on a daily basis. In summer, is the hottest part of the day noon? No. It's usually mid-afternoon. By December, the Northern Hemisphere has been cooling steadily for several months. It also takes several months to warm back up, which is why you get the delay. Same thing in summer. Summer Solstice occurs around June 21, but the hottest months are July/August.

  • @mrshanes1 thanks for your reply, I do see what your saying, but not only does it not warm up, for 2 months straight each day gets more sun yet we get colder every day. its not just NOT warming up, it's actually getting colder for 60 days straight, there's gotta be something else causing that

  • @sausagenmuff There are other factors at work also such as water and land masses. Air currents differ around the globe as well. All of these things factor into temperatures.

  • This is cool

  • I sitll dont understand , it spin same time and the tilt is same

  • @oparunz Yeah, the tilt is the same but imagine spinning a top (the toy), it "wobbles", so Earth sometimes tilts "forward" (towards the sun) and sometimes tilts "backwards" (away from the sun).

  • good video thx for sharing.

  • PUT ON YOUR WINTER COAT! IT'S SUMMERTIMEE! XD

  • woah woah woah, so when its winter in europe its summer in australia and vice-versa?

i never thought of it that way :)

so Australians celebrate (x-mas hannukah etc) in december but its summer? :O

  • @sidewaysfcs0718

kinda crazy, I am 26 now and I never thought really about that as well, you somehow do not see reports in summer of 1 meter snow anywhere on the southern hemisphere :) but yes, they celebrate x-mas in summer :)

  • this is such liberal propaganda bullshit. you really expect me to believe the cause of the seasons is because of a tilt? the cause of the seasons on earth is chuck norris.

anyone that can think for themselves knows that.

  • Go to my channnel

  • Most annoying voice over ever.

  • She sounds like Jodi Foster after smoking a joint.

  • @ERiCDrAyViN Um ok. is that a good thing or a bad thing?

  • i like bill nye the science guy more. this lady is creepin

  • @heidisdbm007 I totally agree she is freaking creepy

  • It's a really cool video, I don't get it. I like the voice, but it's very hard to imagine the woman speaking without seeing her. I try hard to use my imagination, but I don't even know if she is blond or red hair. And what's with all the spinning balls anyway? And I don't think it's complete - I wanna know the story ending

  • im a 6th grader i know all of that.....

  • weird

  • Omg, I'm sure David Lynch would have hired this girl.

  • That's not science at all - and I didn't get and neither did anyone else with that POP explanation

  • ? okay but i go to school and got this question?

The seasons are caused by the earth tilts and its?

    HELP ME!!!

  • wow this really helped me! :D Damn you astronomy book why you gotta be so damn complicated -.-

  • Thanks! Learned more from this video than a whole class :D

  • Oh my gosh this is so cheesy I love it. xD Decided to google an answer to this question for a test tomorrow and it came up with this. XD

  • today is first day of spring in australia! sep 21! But everyone here says the first day of spring is the 1 of september though. Which i thought was wierd. For all those americans and english and others foreign out there, at christmas and new year, its 30 degrees celsuis! Last new year i got bitten by heaps of mozzies...

  • Sweet video!

  • Learned more from this video in 2 minutes then I did in my 4 hour college class. Why can't all teachers teach like they're teaching children?!

  • @StatuesBleedingGreen I agree, to the fullest.!

  • hey that is really cool

    (chase from p1) :)

  • THATS SOME COOL SCIENCE....

  • -whisper whisper- put on your winter coat

  • she's hilarious

  • THAT'S some cooooool science

  • its summer time!!!!!!!!!

  • Great!

  • lol she makes winter seem like a nightmare compared to summer. I LIKE BOTH!

  • 0:03!! LOL! What causes Earths Seasons?

  • 1:20! Put on your winter coat!!

  • What a REDICULOUS way to explain it! You have made it very complicated this production company should NOT be in the business of education.

  • Its witnter time!

  • how patronising is this womans voice..?????? lol

  • Omg that woman is scaring me O_o

  • nice video . that what i looked for. i always wanted to know that shit how the earth change seasons. tnx

  • Good. But we still do not see what is REALLY REALLY HAPPENING spring and autumn????

  • @Sportsnutist Rofl:D.D

  • this helps me understand summer and winter but not spring and fall so much... im guessing that has also has something to do with the orbit being elliptical??

  • @CypheredSoul nvm i think it was to do with Eastern and Western hemispheres being more exposed then north and south

  • We watched this in my 9th grade Earth Science class and my teacher described the narrator as "the excited narrator",,,

  • dumb bitch

  • its summertime! :D

  • this helps, but that womans voice is so annoying.

  • axisssssss

  • hahaha...wats wrong with this woman

  • if earth is tilting the hemisphere that faces the sun more near than that far hemishpere the nearest hemisphere is summer while the farthest hemishpere is winter

  • I hate this voice. It's like someone is trying to sound seductive but it's coming off as jarring and creepy, it makes me want to inch away quickly before she guts me and steals my wallet. Otherwise the visual was very accurate.

  • So it's summer in Colombia while it's winter in Peru?

  • i didnt understand shit, and im a 25 year old grown man, horrible explanation!

  • @serg4nyc well Im 18 and I understood it perfectly.

  • @finarefinast well apparently you are a descendent from Athena herself, im a mere mortal corporate slave.

  • @serg4nyc Your right, that was a pretty short and fairly unhelpful explanation..but its accurate.

  • @serg4nyc You must lack intelligence

  • @Recovery82 you better believe it, that's the reason im here

  • @serg4nyc ahaha true, i can try explain it if you want.. probs be easier to understand

  • @Recovery82 thanx that would be awesome, it will help if you could explain to me how is it possible the the northern hemisphere is pointed away from the sun? The sun is too massive for anything to be pointed away from it.

  • @serg4nyc The northern hemisphere isn't necessarily pointed away from the sun. The seasons are caused by 3 things.

    1) the Earths revolution around the sun.

    2) the spherical shape of the earth

    3) The tilt of the axis of the earth.

As the earth revolves around the sun, 1 hemisphere (north or south) will lean towards it, the other will lean slighty away. The one leaning forward will receive 2/3 of the sunlight and be under summer and have longer days, the other will receive 1/3 and be under winter

  • Comment removed

  • @serg4nyc Use this analogy to help you. In your right hand make a closed fist which will represent the sun. In your left hand have it flat and leaning towards the right slightly. You will see the the northern hemisphere (top of your hand) will be closer to the sun, and leaning towards it, while the bottom of your hand will be further away. Then move your hand (maintaining its position) around the sun. You will notice that now the bottom of your hand (southern hemisphere) is closest.

  • Hi, apologies for the random comment, but we have just started an ambitious new community website based around our planet, and wanted to let people know who might be interested. It's at earth-forums (dot) com. We hope you like it :)

  • 00:19 we live in that blue marble going around the sun

  • WE WATCHED THIS IN SCHOOL TODAY AND I GOT SCARED!!!! wtf is her problem? when the ssun shiiiiines on the northern hemispheeeere.......

    *suddenly whispering very quickly*

    it is winter!!!!!

  • @invaderpopz lol we have to research for AFJROTC lol i thinking the same exaaaaacccccccttttttt thingssssss lol earthsssssssss tlltsssssssssss hahahahaha

  • @invaderpopz I DID TOO :D

  • @invaderpopz she's just going all dramatic chipmunk once in a while to spice it up..

  • thatz sum koooooool sciencesssssssss *echo*

  • Excelente... is perfect this video.

  • this is dome

  • its a her?

  • @NFmafia I suppose so then aye? yet rather creepy

  • her voice makes the video more entertaining to watch and listen to!

  • I don't like her voice... it's sort of scary. but i think the video is really cool :)

  • Comment removed

  • hey lady, the fact that the axis always points to polaris and that it actually revolves around the sun causes the seasons too!

  • excellent video! I am a 7th grade science teacher and I will certainly be using this for my lesson on the seasons!

  • When it comes to seasons, this is how I name them:

    Spring= Newleaf

    Summer= Greenleaf

    Fall= Leaf Fall

    Winter= Leaf-Bare

    Source: Warrior cats

  • I doubt anyone will learn ANYTHING from this video :3

  • @CraigIsAnEgg i learned and fathomed it well.

  • @CraigIsAnEgg YOUSUCK EGGMAN!

  • @Naynis63 Aww, I love you too :D

  • We require more mineralsssssss.

    Spawn more overlords.

  • how can i download this video

  • How does the elliptical orbit factor in here? is that why the north get a colder winter and the south gets a hotter summer?

  • hiss

  • hahahaha aren't we cool xD

  • mhm.....mr. barteaux is a good internet movie finderrr. :)

  • it doesn't say anything about this in the bible, so it can't be true. it's just another theory with no evidence.

  • @DaMastaOfRoad The evidence is the Earth, Moon, and Sun relationship.

  • @DaMastaOfRoad dude this makes perfect sence man i really don't see how this could not be true

  • @DaMastaOfRoad I trust the Biblie, in fact, it doesn't says that this is not true. On other hand, all these perfect seasons and periods show us the knowledge of our great God, to provide us with a planet that can sustain life. For instance, people had believed for centuries that earth was not sphere like, although Isaiah 40:22 says: "There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth..." Notice that in hebraic the word for circle, sugests sphere shape. =D

  • @DaMastaOfRoad Notice also Job 26:7 wich says "He is stretching out the north over the empty place,

Hanging the earth upon nothing;" This is in accordance to what is on this video. =D

  • @TheAargus @skinsnbones1 @ThingBot haha don't worry i'm just a troll making fun of people who take the bible too literally, like creationists :D

  • I loove it when she says "LETS FIND OUT! "

  • Tilt is what also causes the Summer Solstice and the Winter Solstice. In the Summer Solstice, there are longer days due to the large amount of energy. In the Winter Solstice, there are shorter days due to the lack of energy. Some advanced science for you.

  • @killerinstinct Well, I don't know about that, but if Earth didn't have a tilt, we would only have one season. So its good to have a tilt.

  • I need to do a project in science about seasons this was pretty helpful

  • Shes so dramatic

  • The amount of energy from the sun is the same. All light from the sun is straight. It is warmest where the sunlight is concentrated and not spread out. (e.g. 90 degrees | <-- has more concentrated sunlight than 45 degrees \<-- and almost no concentrated light at zero degrees - <--.) That's why the poles are cold even during summer.

  • 365,000 viewers!

  • okay but what causes the earth's tilt , gravity right?

  • Comment removed

  • @killerinstinct1337

gravity of the earth's core, the sun and the moon probably have something to do with it. and gravity is the force behind the formation of a planet. also large asteroids and meteors hitting the earth. probably.

  • @killerinstinct1337 u're kiddin right?

  • @voidstuff kidding about what?

  • ha ha at is so funny

  • Maybe a little bit dramatic. But good.

  • heeeereus theeee ENERgeee uuufff de SUUN ess LESS!!

  • What is the deal with the "angle" arrows. Why do we insist on giving people incorrect information, when the facts would have delivered the message just fine?

  • @CommentClown

0:51 not just the arrows; the energy from the sun is delivered as two different colours, divided by the equator. The picture suggests the antarctic is hot as it's 'tilted towards the sun' and just north of the equator it's cold, as it's 'tilted away' from the sun.

  • @senorjorgegonzales

You are right. All energy from the sun is the same.

  • my science teacher got the purple cow thingy too

  • that wuz interesting.. hmmm... the woman sounds creepy and crazy and a fag..lol

  • "Put on your winter coat!" lol she talks like she is talking to a kid.

  • .the one who explain. .is a fag

  • "Put on your winter coat!"

HMMM do more science to me!!

  • The earth is tilted relative to...what, exactly?

I mean, if you're floating in space, there is no up and down, right?

  • @thenameiskip I'm pretty sure its based on the earths polarity.

  • @thenameiskip Relative to the flat plane of Earth's circle rotation around the sun.

  • good science

  • i am a geologist and love it.....

  • @shakir561 so do I

  • @shakir561 its normal for it to tilt.... right?

  • wij moesten dit kennen voor school !! da was dus wel handdig

  • @OweMe1Cannoli Humans have created and adapted their calenders according to precession.

  • Axial tilt is the reason for the season

  • i love science!!

  • i love science!!! along with math!>>>>>best subjects in the world.

  • Australia get hotter, Today. So..... Northsphere will be worse bigger Winter storm or England will be darker and more snows and Russia will be worse very colder -180 or more.
