Ron Paul politically upholds many principles of Jacksonian Democracy (civil liberties, free markets, gold standard, property rights to name a few), but is very much a conservative in the classical sense (advocates a small government, low taxation, a balanced budget, etc).
He is also conservative classically speaking in that conservatives advocated slow political change. Note his objections to many of the changes to our political system over the last century, especially since Reagan's last term.
Except that many of the causes in the Jefferson's time no longer apply.
Libertarians tend to want a return to Jeffersonian times before all those nasty SCOTUS decisions you would just rather not pay attention to. Never ealizing that it was the Jeffersonian model that a country be able to adapt itself to the changing times, so in fact, by reverting to the original Constitution, you are going AGAINST the Jefferson model.
So by following the rule of law, i.e. the Constitution, and wanting a government that is confined by it goes against the Jefferson model? Wanting a government to respect individual liberty, both civil and economic is against the Jefferson model? If you read the words of Mr. Jefferson himself he was deeply troubled with the idea of a government growing to large. That is how liberty dies. That is why the Bill of Rights was written. @touber2011 Haha! I'm too far to the left to even remotely consider registering as a Republican! The only reason I like Paul is because he's the only candidate that has a record for voting against the criminal wars! I also like his stance on civil liberties. That's about it. I would much prefer a Ralph Nader or Dennis Kucinich as my president, but I know the majority of the American people would never go for that, so I will leave the primary process to you Paulites!

@23lFrench You do realize the sheer lunacy of what you're saying, right? There wasn't EVER a president that existed who could accomplish everything they set out to do. There are other BRANCHES of government that prevent the president from implementing all of his reforms.
Even RALPH NADER has recently said that people should take a SERIOUS look at Ron Paul! Ron Paul would at least not send our troops into harms way and end the wars. That's really all that I want out of any candidate.

Ron Paul politically upholds many principles of Jacksonian Democracy (civil liberties, free markets, gold standard, property rights to name a few), but is very much a conservative in the classical sense (advocates a small government, low taxation, a balanced budget, etc).
He is also conservative classically speaking in that conservatives advocated slow political change. Note his objections to many of the changes to our political system over the last century, especially since Reagan's last term.

Libertarians tend to want a return to Jeffersonian times before all those nasty SCOTUS decisions you would just rather not pay attention to. Never ealizing that it was the Jeffersonian model that a country be able to adapt itself to the changing times, so in fact, by reverting to the original Constitution, you are going AGAINST the Jefferson model.

If you read the words of Mr. Jefferson himself he was deeply troubled with the idea of a government growing to large. That is how liberty dies. That is why the Bill of Rights was written. The government was given the ability by the founders to amend the constitution because they realized that threats may some day arise that they were unable to anticipate when it was originally drafted. That said however, if you believe that the founders would've favored the size that our government has grown to, you are an ignorant fool who needs to do your homework. Extend the same remarks if you are in favor of the giant government bureaucracies that are destroying this country from within.

The jeffersonian idea of government is to protect your natural rights. That is it. When government becomes destructive to these ends it is the right of people to throw such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security (Dec. of Indep.). It is not to give you a damn thing. Your rights on the basis of your humanity is all you get.
When Governments grow to big you lose your liberty and your security. That is the domestic part.

I understand that libertarians are suspicious of marxist thinking because of the way that marxist inspired revolutions have turned out. the one thing that libertarians (at least american libertarians - there is a difference) fail to grasp is that private tyranny will still exist if it is not addressed. When someone has to work for food, shelter, family in a compromised environment that's exploitation.

Many blame capitalism on the private tyranny that exists in the U.S., but we have had anything but capitalism in the U.S. for a long time. What we've had is corporatism and cronyism. If our "free" markets were actually free, the result would be much different.
The only thing that becoming Socialist or Communist would do for the U.S. is hand total control of our government to those responsible for the private tyranny you speak of, which by the way wield far too much government power as it is.

Davis, thank you for this message. I think anyone within the Campaign for Liberty can get on board with this message. We've been saying for a long while that a large portion of both the Republican and Democratic parties have not been acting in the best interests of the American people, and are in fact, fascist in their ideology...to be met with slurs, ridicule and media obfuscation, most of all Dr Paul himself. We need to wake up people to this, before we lose our cherished freedoms forever.

Also you can not be radical and anti-statist at the same time. Radicals by definition establish a republic, which is statist.
Anarchy is easily replaced by any and all forms of government as naturally as water flows down hill, so it is an absurd ideal to begin with.
also 'everywhere else' social libertarianism is the flavour, and that is most definitely statist and radical.

I'm a Radical that leans whatever direction we need, and that is true change and sorry, Obama ain't gonna bring it. What we have is power politics versus people politics, and power is winning at the momemnt. I think good americans can put some policy differences onto the negotioating table if we could just get politicians that care!!

I was an Obama supporter for a very long time, but over time I started to become more disillusioned with him. His voting for The Telecom immunity bill was the straw that broke the camels back. It's not about left or right! It is all about up or down. The political compass has four directions. Up is Authoritarian, Down is Libertarian (in terms of classical liberalism. Both major parties are both Authoritarian in agendas, that is what we need to fix. Bring the liberty back to the people.

If the D's hate the R's who both hate the I's we'll all be too busy spying on each other to see what's going on right under our noses.
