MAYBE the LS4, with advanced fuel management will get like 28-29 at cruising speeds (when cylinders shut down). I'm basing this off of what they get in Fieros. And Fieros weigh about the same as civics, and are far more pointy and aerodynamic.

And you can have BUTTLOADS of torque, and still have a slow car. Take tractors for example! 5,170 lbs of drawbar torque! At 10mph!

It's hard to swallow that an engine twice as big gets better gas mileage. Especially when it's not including any kind of advanced fuel management.

Not saying it's impossible. Just sounds like you'd have to do some hypermiling in order to achieve that. Opposed to comfortable regular driving.

Maybe 30s on an LS4 from an impala SS... Maybe. But he'd have to be trying. I don't think he's going to get it on an LS engine he pulls out of a vette though. I could be wrong, but just doesn't sound very practical. Especially since I see what LS4 fieros do with my own eye balls.

When the AVFS came to Texas, I went in my Fiero 3.4 and my wife went in one of our other cars, I think it was our SL2 Saturn, for the fuel runs they were doing.

Of course, at any car show, even if it's a "green show" there's some ding bats that are going to show up in big blocks.

Of course, there was a midnight blue 05 gto, and a vette there. The vette did 34 (engine off coasting). Even with engine off coasting, the LS2 only did 29mpg 46psi tires

When the gto did on engine (unsure if he did any neutral on engine coasting or not) boast, he still only did like 26-27mpg at 55mph.
