If his cage wasn't completely empty, you might not have to play, try to get the bird to bite. Your vet may know the bird's medical history, but she only knows what you tell her about how you treat the bird. I have a feeling it's pretty fictitious.
As with everything you get the ones that know what there doing and the ones that think they know , who am I to try and save the world....but honestly you should keep mice instead..LOL
Please DO NOT try and "validate" what your doing to this poor animal. Even if your bird suffers from these "conditions" your not helping matters by poking at him/her to fly and attack people like that. And for the record, I DO know what i'm talking about since i've been in the field for 25+yrs. And own 4 Sun Conures, 2 Indian Ringnecks & 2 Quakers. I wish animal control, would BAN folks like you, from owning these sensitive and highly intelligent animals....(g)
OMG, another self proclaimed expert! I'll stick with my EDUCATED AVIAN VET that actually has proof of her expertise in this area. I'm sure she's a lot smarter than you. She also has Starbursts ENTIRE history, unlike YOU, who only has less than a 5 minute window into his life. Sounds like you're a POS breeder that keeps adding to the overpopulated rescues, then people like me have to step up and save the abused birds you undoubtedly sacrifice for your own profit.
To the woman: Your a poor excuse for an owner. You've potentially set this bird up to attack and possible cause injury to yourself and others. You dont deserve this bird. I hope you change your ways because the poor bird is absolutely showing signs of distress. I dont doubt this. Is he already feather plucking? If so there's your answer. Stop now before someone gets hurt PLEASE
@Leela283 Too bad you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. We rescued Starburst with very serious problems! HE INVENTED THE GAME! It keeps him happy and STOPS him from plucking when he plays like this! The vet had us medicate him for his insanity but we found we could stop the meds if we played with him more! Please ask before you stick your foot in your mouth next time. Not all birds come to people in a state of perfection. Some of us have to actually be more creative!
This really disappoints me.I have a Sun&a Peach front conure, both males, both buddies. They've had full flight feathers for awhile and they are now starting to attack my african grey.My grey bothers no one,he's a good guy.I've alway's looked at my sun as the gentlist, loving, laid back bird, and thought all suns were like that, but watching this video,it has opened my eyes.My Quaker birds when in full flight feathers bullies all my birds. As soon as I clip their wings, they instantly calm down.
I didn't know Starburst had mental issues, I thought he was just a really territorial bird. Sorry to hear that, at least you know that despite his original upbringing, he's got a good home now!
I wonder why he's so territorial ... I have a sun conure named starburst as well ... why don't you try trimming his flight feathers? that's what I do but my starburst is lovey dovey to everyone - as long as you have a piece of papaya as a peace offering ...
Our Starburst has mental issues, poor little thing. We got him as an older bird and have no idea of the abuse he suffered in his past. The vet is certain it wasn't pretty though. We allow him his flight feathers to give him some control over his own life for once and he has gotten a lot better than he used to be!!!
He's a plucker and we can't stop him although we keep trying. He also plucks our other Sun horribly. Without wings he would have nothing to do but mutilate himself even worse.
Yeah, it's funny "usually" lol. We've learned to duck down or just flat out hit the floor when we hear those wings coming for us, lol.
I have to admit though... Starburst blindsided me yesterday (1st time in over a year) because I mistakenly thought it was my other Sun (Skittles) flying towards me, lol. Fortunately Starburst wasn't after blood and bones so I only got scratched on my inside lip when his claws latched onto my lower lip, lol.
