That being said: I got here via the Benjamin Button trailer. On the one hand, I agree with cstewart27, you clearly have a knack for analysis and a passion for these stories (I'm only familiar with Benjamin Button). I had to comment because Benjamin Button (the movie) is, to me, one of the most beautiful romance stories that I've seen. In the short story Benjamin is kind of a jackass o.o
The whole story is about the small moment in time which two people love each other, everything being impermanent BUT with lasting effects. His daughter wasn't fatherless, and Daisy didn't just sit around being sad for years. She remarried and was happy, even knowing that the greatest love of her life was and always will be Benjamin. Daisy herself admits that she couldn't have raised them both, his situation was hopeless. His leaving reiterates the movie's theme of brevity: nothing lasts.
