  • Could you do affect and effect that really confuses me I understand they're their there and your and you're but effect and affect has never been thoroughly explained to me (and if it was I don't remember).

  • I was an English major in college and I go so crazy seeing people use the wrong form of that particular word. Another one that is used equally wrong is Where, wear, ware. Homonyms are a bitch indeed.

  • Do you do requests? lol.

Do "definately," "deffinately," and "definetly" next!

  • a conjunction is a joining word such as but, and, or.

a contraction is 2 words shortened to make a word such as I'm, he's, they're

and to think your trying to correct us...

  • @ChrisIsThaBomb Thanks for clarifying. While I realize that was an insult, I am glad someone has clarified the difference between a conjunction and a contraction. I was thinking that a conjunction was words such as "but, and, or" that is why I wrote down a contraction, since I was thinking that fit what I was describing better.

Thanks for the input and your sentence "and to think your trying to correct us" is incorrect, it should be you're not your. Close but not quite.

  • @weirdofrompluto i want trying to be rude! i love you!

  • Did you realise you wrote 'contraction' instead of 'conjunction' on the 'they're' board :)?

  • @WeDrinkAcid ahaha oh my well that was a fail. well a contraction and a conjunction are similar, I mean the words have close meanings. UGH, I failed.

  • I'm so glad there are people in this world who know how to spell. I know I may mess up sometimes, but I'm not continually, and purposefully doing it. I don't know, maybe the grammar we're taught in school is dieing and we'll all be taught how to type like 12 year olds.

  • I stopped correcting people. In my opinion, this is just as bad as confusing "further" and "farther", "coffin" and "casket", which over 80% of the English speaking population do.

  • I've always wondered how society can still get away with the I before E except after C rule when there are so many words which don't adhere to it (their being an example).

  • "Is there a pink tutu in my size?"

"There is an octopus in my pants."

"There is no way that's really a woman."

    Not always distance.

  • @Psyence1987 That is true, and I was trying to think of a way to explain that but I wasn't sure. A lot of the examples though are most commonly distance, but you are correct.
