@Johnlindsey289 they made an even more dreadful sequel a few years ago, i think they played on its bad movie legacy than anything and hoped the sequel would succeed on that wave, it was simply forgettable as the original was made as serious explotation that simple looked laughable and so became cult.
i hate it when bad novies are made to be bad, hoping to be cult! so bad movies they are good like this one are born not manufactured!!!
@Johnlindsey289 i`m indifferent, as the original is such a cult classic, the remake would be just flashy special effects and no substance, this is a bad movie at a time when money was a limit, it has charm and a few faded movie stars thrown in for value, i dislike the bad movies of today that have 1st class effects yet are simply dull, i think they need to really base it totally on the book and keep it in period if it is to work as a remake in its on merit!
@Johnlindsey289 the remake of the thing was outstanding, not only for its effects not using computer but electronic still terrifies, the move to the original plot helps it stand out from the 1st.
im not so struck on ape history being rewritten by the new "conquest" revision, to me thats tampering with movie folklore, again flashy effects and trendy plot that will never be as remembered as the 1972 much cheaper and simpler version.
Yes a remake of NOTL is needed as we need the rabbits to be creepy and sharp teethed instead of looking like rare projected rabbits and gory as well. Eli Roth should do it
Unlike other movies I saw as a child, like "The Exorcist," "The Omen," "Jaws," etc., at 10, this movie made me have nightmares for a week! I suppose it was the possibility, in a child's mind, that rats, wasps, and other creatures, "COULD" actually grow and attack people!?!? Dunno! But, what I DO KNOW is that this flick made me hear the pitter-patter of rats running about as I was in my bed, and, made me want to stay up and watch boring, adult T.V. like "Bob Newhart" and "Mary Tyler Moore." :(
Just another anti-laws-of-physics movie. Think of a Giraffe and why it has a strong lower body and long skinny neck. The legs of any insect that big would be crushed under its own weight. Rodents maybe, but not huge wasps. This movie is fun to watch, old school effects are just way more creative.
If you've ever had pet rats, the 'giant' rat climbing in the dollhouse window (and the cute little ratties bumbling around on the 'porch') is, like, the funniest thing ever. :)
@jensmusicfaves just one of the charms about this great movie. From one scene where rats are nonchalantly crawling around the house as though they just want to be loved and petted to another where they're headbutting through 4x6 joists, rabidly looking for the first human to tear apart...
...talk about great continuity. A true masterpiece.
@BillionDollarZombie CGI does not suck thank you very much it has open up a new king of special effects like jurassic park and dead mans chest so wach what you say man okay
HOLY WOW! Yes, this film also gave me the creeps...the huge hornets. UGH! And the movie "The Car"!!! That honking horn after it jumps through the house and kills that lady. I can STILL hear that horn sometimes when I am drifting off to sleep. I am 40, and it still haunts me! LOL
aw man i am from the southside of the chi and I remember soaking my finger after a dog bit my azz watching the son of Svengoolie. Berwynn Berwynn, LOL!!!
This scenario is currently playing out all around the USA . . . growth hormones in meat and dairy products are creating GIANT (clinically obese) HUMANS!
The craziest/funniest thing about this is that they really blast the shit out of live rats (probably w/ a pellet gun) during the fight scenes. Who got THAT job?
It's actually about this crap that comes up out of the ground (I don't remember if it was a natural chemical or some kind of toxic waste) that the local yokel farmers feed to their livestock to make them grow jumbo sized. There's giant rats, a giant chicken, a giant insect...
I remember my buddy and I hitchhiking into the city to see this movie when it opened in 1976. It scared the crap out of us back then. Now with today's effects, it is more of a comedy. Still a classic though that holds a special place in my heart.
they should continue to do some effect for real then just use the computer to refine the realness. as long as the shot is real it will have a more intense effect. thats why this movie was so crazy
Bert I Gordon is great! And still attends HORROR conventions when he is like 80 yrs old like Stuart Gordan bringing H.P.Lovecraft to the screen and Roger Corman bringing E.A.Poe Bert gave us H.G.Wells
