The Greeks held the Olympics for over 1,000 years. Considering the history and accomplishments of the Greeks, holding one Summer Olympics games that the rest of the world thinks were absolutely incredible was probably not that hard for them. Afterall, they are Greeks!

was beautiful.nice coreografy and lots of extras that maybe nobody will beat.But,i was expecting more.if they sell worldwide so many tecnologies,they could use more in the openning than use people.but,was fantastic.but,in my opnion it wasnt that emotional that was in Athens! I am Greek, so I can't probably be objective. I truly believe both ceremonies were excellent, for me of course there was more sentiment in the Greek one. What is certain though is that Mr Dimitris Papaioannou (the artistic director of the Greek ceremony) created a new trend, a new school, in terms of showing the history (without being graphical) of the organizing country and its contemporary face as well. The Chinese ceremony adopted this. Well done.

Shock and Awe these two ceremonies! Athens was unique, so was the Beijing opening ceremony. Beijing was awesome, at a different level worthy of the Chinese dynamism, size, history and culture. I would not compare the two ceremonies, as I would not compare the two cultures. I loved the Athens Opening and I loved the Beijing one. China is 1000 times larger than Greece. The Greek culture stood on its own ground and the Chinese honored Greece during their opening ceremony.

Greece is the smallest nation to ever host the Olympics and they managed to pull it off despite much skepticism. Unfortunately, the $15 billion price tag might have been too much as it put the nation into debt and little has been done to modernize the city after the games and the venues are vacant and unused.

China on the other hand, has a roaring economy and the $65 billion + price tag is just a drop in the bucket. It may even help the economy in the end.

Most of the stadiums are still in use (some have been converted), the new airport, subway and transport systems built for the games are used by millions of Athenians each day (and are still being expanded), and the Greek economy continues to be among the fastest growing in the EU. Seems like a success to me.
