Hello everybody...i just wanna say that from a guitarplayer piont of view ANDY is the man who played like a demon...He destroyed both Steve and Paul that night...

Andy was the one playing with limitless passion and emotion,and Steve and Paul realised this and were kinda impressed by this to such an extend it influenced their playing quite a lot i feel..

Andy OWNED..big time folks,and i am a Vai freak talkin'...

I thought the second half of Gilbert's solo was great. First half a bit stale. Timmons' simply blew me away though. Both great guitarists though.

Theyre both great guitarists, but in my opinion Timmons' solo owned Gilbert's in every way possible...style, phrasing, tone, etc.

Gilbert is better at linear speed picking.

Timmons incorporates complicated jazz, blues, bebop, rock, and country runs and phrasing that makes peoples heads spin. So you cant really compare. Over all Timmons style is my fav

@chillmetal lol linear speed picking, gilbert is better at speed picking period, they are both great but don't diminish what gilbert does by talking about what timmons incorporates, gilbert incorporates a lot too, classical scales, pizzicato, alt picking, true sweeping and general unnatural precision, although you could give the last 1 to timmons as well because he is sick at what he does!

@TheLydianRocks Yes Actually they both do diminished its just subtitle its not the always repetitive yngwie dim runs. Listen to Groove or Die there are a few diminished runs in that one.

andy smokes paul..what a difference! andy can really feel it but paul is just staying safe.. pauls a hyperspeed shredder but he really doesnt "get it" but in all fairness to paul..i still cant play that monster 3 octave super 7 fret spread shred at the end of his first instructional video.

Gilbert (who is a major hero of mine) kinda chokes here; he typically plays with a lot more fire and flare than he does here - I think he's just intimidated by Timmons, who is really a monster player, but Gilbert is one of the best in the world. Just a weird moment. We all have 'em.

@Mr5150 Timmons has more of a variety in his playing. As in studies lots of jazz, plays blues, funk, classic rock, metal. This is why he stands out and Is my favorite guitar player of all time.

I happen to think they can sing well compared to many others out there. I don't really care for Satriani's voice but I love Vai's and Gilbert's. If you don't like PG singing then get his new album, "Get Outta My Yard". Its awesome.

Ok. Even though you may think Paul Gilbert is a better player or whatever, people have their opinion. I have to say that Andy Timmons destroys Paul and Steve ON THIS VIDEO. Vai is my all time favorite guitarist but sometimes you just gotta know when your guy just aint got it that night. btw Thats not Paul's best video on youtube. Check out his version of Spanish Fly.

Paul Gilbert is my favorite guitarist, but I agree it felt like he phoned in his performances throughout the whole thing. He never goes for the speed & energy that he usually lays down. For his part, Timmons rips up the whole DVD. He's not as clean as Paul, but has great energy & phrasing.

You must not judge this guitarists only by this representation. Every guy has his ups and downs. Gilbert or Vai don't have to prove anything. They proved it many years ago :) Andy is on the same level with them, but he's still underrated...is unfare.
