Thanks for the upload. For a while after the quake, all we had was really radio and generator power to depend on. Cable and internet was iffy depending on where you lived (Cell was useless) So I missed a lot of coverage, and saw only what I saw (Which is enough to give me nightmares for the rest of my life...All that water...). But it's nice to see some honest coverage. Really, if I ever see a fundie saying god sent this earthquake...or another conspiracy theorist....
I left the country one day before the quake and the day after when i woke up,it was these images from the television and it was indeed very scary and it is even now!

I think I am safe from a Tsunami. What concerns me is the Earthquake. Low laying areas in Spokane felt the 6.1 that Seattle experienced about 12 years ago(?) at one or 2 fence posts shifted...areas located on fill shook slightly. If the Coast experiences a 9.0+ we would be affect. Earthquake wise and economically.

plate tectonics right?......lol not only does the doc claim that the pacific plate goes under the euroasia plate even though the quake is at least 300kms from the plate junction, but if it was a case of tectonis plate movement, surely there would be evidence of plate shifting from the east. yet, was there?

I live in Sendai, Japan and have seen some of the coastal areas that were devastated by the tsunami. This documentary really helps me understand what happened to the area I now call home.
Well done and very informative. As bad as it was in Japan I think the west coast of the U.S would fare worse. The large skyscrapers in Japan just swayed gently in a record setting earthquake. Not sure if ours would. Their automated warning system is remarkable. There's a lot to be learned from this tragedy. Thanks for posting this video.
Little quibble here: The skyscrapers in Tokyo swayed to a 6.1 quake, which was the strength in Tokyo. There is no telling how they would have fared if they had been in Sendai, in the center of it.
@Derukui2, There are about 2000 buildings in LA with steel-frame weld construction. When FEMA inspected 200 of them they in 2001 they found 30 buildings received substantial damage from a very mild earthquake. Although none collapsed welds were broken in the connections between horizontal beams and vertical columns. The buildings in Japan are on rollers to allow horizontal movement as the ground moves. They are quite impressive especially if you see the workings in action.

plate tectonics right?......lol not only does the doc claim that the pacific plate goes under the euroasia plate even though the quake is at least 300kms from the plate junction, but if it was a case of tectonis plate movement, surely there would be evidence of plate shifting from the east. yet, was there?

I live in Sendai, Japan and have seen some of the coastal areas that were devastated by the tsunami. This documentary really helps me understand what happened to the area I now call home.

Well done and very informative. As bad as it was in Japan I think the west coast of the U.S would fare worse. The large skyscrapers in Japan just swayed gently in a record setting earthquake. Not sure if ours would. Their automated warning system is remarkable. There's a lot to be learned from this tragedy. Thanks for posting this video.

Little quibble here: The skyscrapers in Tokyo swayed to a 6.1 quake, which was the strength in Tokyo. There is no telling how they would have fared if they had been in Sendai, in the center of it.

@Derukui2, There are about 2000 buildings in LA with steel-frame weld construction. When FEMA inspected 200 of them they in 2001 they found 30 buildings received substantial damage from a very mild earthquake. Although none collapsed welds were broken in the connections between horizontal beams and vertical columns. The buildings in Japan are on rollers to allow horizontal movement as the ground moves. They are quite impressive especially if you see the workings in action.

I know they are impressive. I only pointed out that the earthquake in Tokyo was not "record setting", as Tokyo is 300 km from the epicenter.
And in Sendai there are not skyscrapers as far as I know.
So the practical test is still out there.
