My sister says he won't be back and keeps pointing out that he's dead, he wont regenerate - the Daleks were dead, the Cybermen were dead, all of Gallifrey were dead but they came back in a completely non-canon, undramatic anticlimax, the Master himself has come back from the grave several times. He'll be back.

@trafficlights1 What annoyed me was that every time the Daleks came back they HAD to all die save one. I like that they are 'officially' back for good (as of Victory of the Daleks). So hopefully when the Master comes back(somehow) he won't die like the last two stories he's been in.

And, to be picky ;), the Cybermen never suffered genocide in the series like the Daleks, there are always more. Gallifrey coming back was sloppily handled, I definately agree with you there :p.

If you get down to it we saw the origenal master in the 70's then we saw him next in a decaying state be for takeing over and possessing some one else's body. The Master was then executed but whent on to posses another human body. Point the Master never relly regerated on dr.who be for now. So his look never relly changed but now it has and like the doctor it would.

He was a brilliant master, and the way back is open. Very few actors can portray the perfect villains....Alan Rickman did it in Robin Hood (Keith Allen is an also ran), Jack Nicholson as the joker in Batman and John Simms has done it here....brilliant job

Second it was spelled out that the Master was ultimately annihilated by the Eye of Eternity in the 1996 movie, so he shouldnt even BE here.

Third, In order to return he needs a body to come back to. And it's been reduced to ash. Nocorporeal form = no possible return.

The reason why the writers chose someone who looks like this is because they wanted this version of The Master to look as close to The Doctor as they possibly could--which brings up several questions not only about the Master, but about the Doctor, himself. He's supposed to be funny, eccentric, comical and strange--just like The Doctor.

Well, if he hadn't been burned it probably would have been possible; like when the Doctor is killed in San Fransisco and stays dead for a while because he was under anasthesia. He was "dead" for a while before regenerating, so it could be possible. Then again, the ring at the end of that episode leaves possibilities open for other ways he could still survive.
