At 1:46 this commercial chose a perfect clip of Doris Day crying in the movie,"Midnight Lace." It's nice knowing that Doris is still alive today on 7/15/1...sadly she has turned down an honorary Oscar. I LOVE YOU DORIS DAY!
How nice! But I'm angry at Turner Classic movies because they are showing movies made in the last 20-30 yrs. Movies from the 80's and 90's and even early 2000's. O Brother Whre art though ?? LOL Come on! Stick to GRANDPA MOVIES from the 30's, 40's&50's. I'm not even 30 yet and already movies of my youth are considered 'classic? ????
@jakevhughes The actress is a very young Hedy Lamarr (credited as Hedy Kiesler) in the 1933 movie "Ecstasy". It has played on TCM a few times that I know & is shown with all censored material restored (she has several nude scenes in the middle of the film). Another brief glimpse from the same movie is shown at 1:36 in the above promo. Though it is a sound feature (German language/English subtitles), it plays more like a silent film. It was released on DVD in 2002. See IMDB for more. Enjoy!
ive got a question..there was once a really awsome TCM commercial, lost of cust from great movies and a lector saying things like - "gamble all you got, loose all you got, get even, get mad, etc..
I love the last 2 TCM promos, I found out the song for one it's "walk in fire" by the 'Doves', but I cannot find the last one that I saw. It has the lyrics "I promise you everyday" something like that. Can anyone help me find out who sings that song and what it's called?
I think the song you're asking about is "Promises" by Badly Drawn Boy. It was used in the 2007 "TCM Remembers" promo.
I realize that you might know that already, considering the fact that your comment was posted one week ago, but I thought I should write this reply just in case you don't already know. Cheers
And does anyone know what the background music is for that lovely "Being But Men" (Dylan Thomas) thing they did for Christmas 2006 (repeated in 2007)?
The name of the song playing in the background in "Being But Men" is titled "Hymn" by Craig Armstrong. Go to ITunes to listen to it. I think there may by two songs by Armstrong "Hymn" and "Hymn 2", but I am not sure about that. It is a beautiful song.
So true--"Raygun" does amazing work...complete art. This promo vid is so utterly emotional; they really get the wistfulness that needs to be projected when reviewing images of people long gone. They "get" the mood of TCM and what film history really means: Little slices of life--gestures, styles and personalities, all frozen in time.

Maybe we should start a TCM Promos fan club.
for more, go to raygun dot com - that's the company that produced them.
