Really awesome sing this at school at chapel but it's really boring thumbs up if you think they should promote livlier churchs in school to bring the youth to christ
Ugh God, as a devout Catholic please let me be the first to say that I detest modern Christian music. And being a proud Irishman, albeit part english as well, I must say that I hate this gospel hymn version of this song. I prefer it the way my grandad used to sing sing it to me as a lad.
@Irishborne I completely agree. I grew up going to Catholic school and church and the modern Christian version of anything, especially music, just doesn't sit right. I much prefer the sound of music and voices echoing in the vastness of a Catholic church than the modern sounds of microphones and stages.. At least when it comes to Catholic hymns.
@Irishborne I dont think they were trying to be disrespectful to a great song. It is just a matter of style that is all. The musicans of old had much more to work with in terms of song writing and sheet music and that being time. They were not under deadlines to get the next record out and they also played to interested live audiences and a performance could go on for hours. It was a community thing. That is lost today. Still, we do have some good music today. Iona's book of kells is a great cd.
@Irishborne Well, it's a good thing you're part English, as Sidney Carter was English and he used a tune out of American Shakers music. Which is convenient, I think, considering that such Gospel style is the descendant of that same music.
I love this hymn, even though I just heard and learned it for the very first time the other night at choir practice. I'm a middle aged Catholic; how could I have missed this popular and fun hymn all my life? Oh well, better late than never and this was a GORGEOUS a capella version. Awesome harmonizing-- well done! God bless!!
@crazyupstart- i think the "s" problem is a result of video artefacting. Tthis looks like a copy of a a low resaloution copy, and all the letters are slightly funky as far as i can tell.
@MrShadowFoot Sorry, its a shared account. the video's are mine but my friend uses it to listen to music and from what i see, abuse people. Sorry - Bradley.
@Frysgirl3009 so many songs do sound great. i also always liked "make me a channel of your peace", especially when played with an organ it sounds awesome.
uhhh.... any reason every S in the printed words are actually dollar signs? $ as in like $tar$ and $un ? Just those damn Christians asking for our money again in a subliminal way, eh?
This is so beautiful. What is the name of the group? Do they have any other recordings?
