I love this video. It goes so well like the song. I can imagine her singing this in a bar in Texas to a bunch of cowboys who whoot and holler drunkenly.
I think this song is about beating up love, not in the physical sense of the word but in mental torment and anguish, and then the love coming back to you after all that abuse. I think it's more of a emotional battle than a song about someone going into the arms of someone actually, physically abusive. That's what I'd like to think because I hate those kind of songs and I love Regina. Reguardless of the meaning, its still one of my favorite Regina songs, next to Rejazz and Summer in the city.
C'mon people, why is it so hard to believe? She wrote this song! Because she totally pulls off a good country song if she wants to. She can make any kind of music.
Was a bright, and sweet, and hot summer day
The day I didn't love you anymore
Some little cue wound up my poor heart which had stopped
Regina is not a whore! She is the best music artist and song writer that I have ever heard/seen! And she is absolutely beautiful!
The song is about how people love each other but take it way to far. Perhaps they rape or they beat or they cheat; but in the end, love still takes them back because that is the way love is.
I wan't saying that. And I know what she is saying. It has nothing to do with rape or the rule of thumb. I has to do with getting into a relationship for the wrong reasons. That's a cover if you didn't know. Old western, Betsy Davis or someone... You know, you should know what it is you are talking of and who you are talking to before you jump on some band wagon.
Wait, the rule of thumb? Before you jump on some band wagon? Are those old sayings or something?
Besides that, different songs mean different things to different people. To me it means what I wrote in the last comment. Also, I'm prett sure that Regina said that this song is her own original song, and I don't think she would be so dumb as to lie about that.
I'm replying under the assumption that you weren't making a joke...
The song, based on the lyrics, is about how you can fall in love and just treat people you love badly, take love for granted, and how love always seems to forgive people and return to them, no matter what they do.
I wish I knew of her when I lived in Bristol :(

Is that right? Who wrote it? I seem to remember Regina introducing this as a song she wrote.

Love isn't a whore, but you are starting to turn into one. For Pete's sake, all we need is another Tory Amos, or Nana.

Very playful, very fun, very Regina Spektor...
