The extinction of dinosaurs didn't occur during the Permian–Triassic extinction event 250 MYa, but during the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event 65 MYa.
@boodistGeek - do some more research, please. There was a mass extinction of dinosaurs during both periods. The KT extinction is merely the most talked-about and popular among those who don't study the various periods at greater depth.
@Raksaht - Dinosaurs arose ~230MYa in the aftermath of the Permian–Triassic extinction event, I therefore find it difficult to see how they could have been affected by a mass extinction that happened before they evolved.
@Raksaht Dinosaurs arose ~230MYa in the aftermath of the Permian–Triassic extinction event. It is impossible for a species to become extinct before it evolves.
@Raksaht 230 MYa = 21 Myrs AFTER the Great Dying, the Permian-Triassic extinction 251 MYa.
At 3:58 Daniel Quinn says "But this is what is meant by a mass extinction like happened in the late Permian period when the dinosaurs disappeared."
The oldest dinosaur fossils are found near the Cretaceous–Tertiary boundary 65 MYa, 186 million years after the Great Dying. They didn't "disappear" in the late Permian.
Quinn should have said "late Cretaceous"; "late Permian" is devoid of paleologic logic.
@boodistGeek - OK, he was wrong for saying dinosaurs and I was wrong for supporting him. There was a massive die-off in the Permian, but it wasn't dinosaurs.

Nightsblood192 may see that. Well, ok, thats being a bit optimistic. It's going to take a lot of evolution to weed out that sort of short sightedness. Go back to your playstation and pretend nothing is wrong.
I think your absorption of the material is a little off, and your math. The one guy said, we have been destroying our land base for 6,000 years by hyper exploiting renewable resources. And Later, someone said, "we have entered into" as in currently, a period of mass extinction of 200 species per day, which is 1000 times the normal, or previous rate. Do the math on that.
@LeDucDArcachon your correct on the 6000 land base loss. but 200 species a day? Thats still 73,000 a year and since this youtube video is almost two years old and the video from which he got it from is probably older it could be more than 180,000 lost since "we have entered into". science has only identified about 2 million species, but estimates that there could be anywhere from 5 million to 100 million species on the planet. so how can he make an argument with such vague numbers?
Firstly , so called 'energy slaves' are sustainable we just have to use alternate or new ways to produce electricty.
Saying that homes are damaging to the environment is ridiculous, we cant exactly do without them can we? its not hard to make them more energy efficient.
We dont have to go back to the stone age just because our current energy needs are too high.
Ok so i watched the entire vid, isnt everything we use come from nature? even fossile fuel comes from a natural process umm we are on the edge of the space age we are destined for the stars not to beat our heads on a planet that is doomed because the sun its self has a lifespan and will die. Trust me the survival of humans does not depend on mud huts it depends on exspanding into the unknown of space.nothing is made to last. From dust we rose and to dust we shall return.
@f8ldev And even for this we don't need to worry about. Because all is energy and everything is eternal. If something goes to dust then somewhere else it will rise!
The fundamental fact of all existence is vibration aka music or sound. Even light itself consist of vibration. Therefor we can never be terminated. Not even to forget all else that's out there to discover.
@LeDucDArcachon Just starting to discover we are more than flesh and blood do we? You profane! if you know all can be solved if we unite as a race. You go back to your illusion of darkness or visit the pale horse at Denver airport and screw it together with Nazi's. Let a reptile show u what a real termination is in any underground base made of pottery lol.The NWO will take care of the population but the power of love from the universe can never be ignored. We always come back in a new suite :)
Are you for real! Fossil fuels are about to run out. Star travel! Nearest star is 11 light years away, so if we achieve a quarter of light speed, it would take 44 years, IF there is anything there! Mud huts. Do yourself a favour and look at the luxury of a well made earth bag building. No chemicals, light, sunny, energy efficient. Expand into unknown space. Let us know how that goes. We have one space vehicle that goes into close orbit and fixes satellites. It's hardly STAR TREK.
So what did I learn from this? That buildings are... bad? I love my mother earth, and I believe in spiritual shit (music mostly) but uhhhh buildings are pretty necessary. And how exactly are we "fucked" I'm sure we'd be surely fucked if we had no place to live. Also, extinction is a cycle of mother nature, even you self righteous greenies can realize that? "of course there have been extinctions in the history..." but those don't matter right? Those don't count, only extinctions NOW count? LOL!!
@Nightsblood192 Something else very funny to look at is how they claim we are going to come to some ultimate end where technology will fail us? All because fossil fuels and oil has "run out" Uhhh we've expanded, and had expansion of technology even before the use of fossil fuels... Cotton Gin, steam powered boat? Are these hippies that full of themselves that they're going to devoid actual history and make it seem like technology is bad? They have a horrible way with words :\
While I'm a supporter of the general ethos of this work, You are right, they kind of shot themselves in the foot with that one. The dust bowl is generally know to have been caused by bad farm management practices, principally plowing furrows miles long instead of round and with zero vegetation left for wind breaks or to hold the soil together, whether on plains or hills. Thus when the winds eventually blew most of the topsoil of the "dust bowl" ended up in the next two states.
We are not killing the planet we are killing ourselves and our way of life. The planet moves in phases and after we burn the surface, earth will shake us off like a bad case of fleas. We are fucked not the planet, after a couple 100 years the planet will contain life again. We are looking for the quick fix but earth does work fast. If we used hemp oil about 80 years ago we could have had a completely different life on this planet, but we can still change things we just hafta work together.
Ok, I'm all for conserving resources and having a clean, healthy planet, but I just gotta say that Tim Ream is an absolute idiot.
The reason why not much grows in a tree plantation is because farmers weed it and clear areas for walkways. I'd expect the exact opposite in areas that aren't weeded, like forests.
He acted like anything touched by humans/grown for human consumption somehow had its soul devoured.
Humans and their constructs are as natural as ants and their anthill, imho.
@jrubin68 So you think a few scattered metropolises and some trace elements in the atmosphere are bad?
TREES did the same damn thing for millions of years, filling the nice brown earth with a sickly green and choking its carbon and nitrogen rich atmosphere with oxygen. Long time ago the planet was more or less toxic to life as we know it. A lot of life went extinct cause of that... no joke...
However, I don't think we'll be as prolific as trees when it comes to "pollution."
@SgtHydra You would do yourself some good to read a book on ecology. I could spend my time explaining how nature hasn't produced anything it can't recover from, adapt to or fix until human society came about, but instead I'll assure you that the existence of trees doesn't have the same negative effects on the environment that the industrial revolution did.
Yeah! buildings consume 40% of the resources! Let's ban buildings and all lie outside!.....Wait a minute that's a fucking stupid idea cos we would all be cold!
Run out? We are not going to run out of resources. There are men who are not replenishing the Earth as they are supposed to be doing, true enough, but God supplied all our needs.
@spicey22 Seriously dude? Ok... cheap energy brought about by the "abundance" of fossil fuels basically replaces human power. If we were to replace all the energy we use (i'm not sure if he said daily or monthly or whatever) with human energy, in the 60's, we would each have 400 slaves... he was saying nowadays it'd be triple or double that. Who's a moron?
wow...it took 6,000 years to get to this point....fuck it I will be dead.....and by the way...it is fucking cold...I NEED SOME GLOBAL WARMING....I would like a 85 degree winter and a nice plate of whale meat for dinner
You kooky fucks make me laugh ! You truly are brainwashed idiots. Sorry , I'm not buying it ! And millions of people are waking up to the fact that all this Global warming/climate change stuff is NOT man made , it is a scam!
Whether its man made or not, the fact that modern western civilization is built, fueled and maintained due to a finite resource called oil means the way we live must change drastically in the near future. Global Warming may be a fraud to create a since of urgency. Otherwise lazy fat asses will continue to eat big macs and watch american idol until every drop of oil is depleted. Then they'll be standing around with corndog in hand asking for help when they should of been proactive.
I love all forms of energy. I am not an oil expert at all , but what makes you think the earth's oil supply is so limited ? How do we know exactly how vast the oil oceans are inside this planet? The water ocean on top is a measly 7 miles deep at the Mariana trench , but the earth is almost 8000 miles in diameter.
There could be 100 ocean's worth of oil inside ,and it would only be a band about 300 miles deep , out of almost 8000. Possible?
7 of the 10 largest corporations in the world are oil companies. All of them are making gargantuan profits. If a huge pool of oil were anywhere to be found, I'm sure they would have found it by now. They can marshal the best and brightest minds, technology, and science to this end. I'm sure they don't want to see the gravy train come to a screeching halt. Considering we've not heard of such a field indicates that none exist.
I hate expensive gas like anyone. But I also know that 70% of that price is government tax of one form or another. So big oil is not the true enemy. And I also understand that the oil companies DO find new oil reserves all the time , and again , government prevents them from drilling to retrieve it .
@maxhole2 Governments and big oil are in bed together. Its not like one is better than the other, or one is working not in tandem with the other... you cant let one off the hook and not the other. They are both fucking us.
@maxhole2 I think you are missing the point. Regardless of how much oil is out there our current way of living is not sustainable. We can not grow forever. Infinite growth does not work on a planet with finite resources. And to the oil point.. yes we are running out, or hitting "peak". It has been well documented by many of the top experts. I suggest you read, "The Empty Tank" by Jeremy Leggett (world renowned geologist) or "Why Your World is About to Get A Whole Lot Smaller" by Jeff Rubin
@maxhole2 Your not buying what? That oil is limited? Oil companies wouldn't be drilling offshore if they didn't have to. Look into the Alberta oil sands. It requires so much more energy than the traditional drilling it is ridiculous. Once again, companies wouldn't be doing it if they didn't have to. The fact they are even bothering with the Alberta oil sands shows that we are getting near the bottom of the barrel.
the concepts are vague, but the msg is still clear... and it was so worth to watch this video...!!!! just think of our lifestyle, and food we eat, transported from all around the world, traveled thousands of km
the documentary also claims that earth first teaches disobedience to innocent students
are these people for real?! indoctrination has gone too far in the USA, they are making the americans believe that fighting for the noble cause of saving the earth is TERRORISM!
All the people speaking in these videos oppose the resources they use everyday and used to make this video... Instead of crying about it change it... They are just as bad as a "Far Right" conspiracy theorist simply in the fact that they preach doom and gloom to the left.
Ever heard the saying "don't come to me with problems, come to me with solutions???" I am sooooo sick and tired of youtube videos telling me how fucked the planet is that give me no scope to make a difference. Can you start getting solution orientated please?
haha, it's too late to do fuck all about the environment. even if miraculously we discovered some clean, cheap energy source available to everyone, do you think china and india will give a fuck? now that they have been industrialized with factories and cars, it's over.
You ALL live in some kind of house and use petroleum. I build houses like that everyday and they sell for alot of money. I for one am happy I am giving people a place to live.
Some day we will run out of oil. What will we do then? Like the guy says we will need to go back to making slaves do the work. I agree with Earth First that slaves are the answer to our future energy problems.
You don't like talking to me because you know I'm right.
There's more important shit to worry about than a bunch of dumb fucking hippies saying we're fucked....The message you responded to is four months old and... I'm still alive to tell you you're a fucking idiot...If you're that fucking worried about it... make a system that requires no fossil fuels and runs vehicles and gives us power... and instead of trying to profit off of it... give it to the world as a gift on the net.. jerkoff.
No, I'm not telling you what to like and what not to...I'm telling you to stop being a hypocrite... If that makes me a far right neo nazi... then by all means call me Hitler.
upstart1776 you are a complete idiot. And you are exactly the enemy in the battle for the salvation of the human race. Through your immense and amazing denial you are actually losing that "self determination and freedom" that you so greatly value. The question is not whether I am willing to collapse our entire way of life. The collapse is inevitable due to stubborn dumb people like you. We, the smart people are trying to figure out how to deal with it. You can help by staying out of the way.
People need spaces to live and work. Unless you are willing to collapse our entire way of life, this is a social constant. As an American who values the concepts of self-determination and freedom more than the life of gnat-catcher or some plant, I believe you people are sick and deluded freaks who deserve no attention at all. No doubt you drive an old Volvo with 'Earth whatever' stickers all over it, as it belches out smoke. I've seen this phenomenon everywhere I go.
So many think they understand and are anxious to minimize and compartmentalize all Earth concerned people. So many (myself included until recently) have totally missed the point and the need for steps. Educate yourself in what you see as an enemy before you judge. Ishmael - Daniel Quinn is an excellent way to open your eyes.
People need space and place to live, and we can certainly strive to facilitate that with awareness and consideration. Continuing on path of mindless exploitation without concern for those to come after us, we are sending a signal "Apres moi le deluge". Once the resources are deleted, and our life starts focusing on getting the basic needs covered, we will legitimately able to conclude who is deluded and ignorant.
The bottom line is that you feel guilty for being at the top of the food chain. I hav eno such notion. Keep in mind, it was a CONSERVATIVE-REPUBLICAN who invented the idea of national parks and conservation (Teddy Roosevelt). While protecting resources makes you feel warm and fuzzy, it also makes good business sense and is just practical. But I'll be damned if I'm going walk 24 miles each way to work or live in a teepee, and eat roots.

Trust me the survival of humans does not depend on mud huts it depends on exspanding into the unknown of space.nothing is made to last. From dust we rose and to dust we shall return.
f8ldev 1 year ago
@f8ldev And even for this we don't need to worry about. Because all is energy and everything is eternal. If something goes to dust then somewhere else it will rise!
The fundamental fact of all existence is vibration aka music or sound. Even light itself consist of vibration. Therefor we can never be terminated. Not even to forget all else that's out there to discover.
TerranObserver 1 year ago
@TerranObserver Thats funny. Ludicrous, but funny. Therefore we can never be terminated lol .
What, are you wearing protective herbs or something?
LeDucDArcachon 1 year ago
@LeDucDArcachon Just starting to discover we are more than flesh and blood do we? You profane! if you know all can be solved if we unite as a race. You go back to your illusion of darkness or visit the pale horse at Denver airport and screw it together with Nazi's. Let a reptile show u what a real termination is in any underground base made of pottery lol.The NWO will take care of the population but the power of love from the universe can never be ignored. We always come back in a new suite :)

@f8ldev

LOL!!
Nightsblood192 1 year ago
@Nightsblood192 Something else very funny to look at is how they claim we are going to come to some ultimate end where technology will fail us? All because fossil fuels and oil has "run out" Uhhh we've expanded, and had expansion of technology even before the use of fossil fuels... Cotton Gin, steam powered boat? Are these hippies that full of themselves that they're going to devoid actual history and make it seem like technology is bad? They have a horrible way with words :\

The dust bowl was cased by a lack of fertilizer?
jeselmira2 1 year ago
@jeselmira2

SgtHydra 1 year ago
@SgtHydra The only difference is anthills don't consume an entire planet with concrete and smog.
jrubin68 1 year ago
@jrubin68 So you think a few scattered metropolises and some trace elements in the atmosphere are bad?
TREES did the same damn thing for millions of years, filling the nice brown earth with a sickly green and choking its carbon and nitrogen rich atmosphere with oxygen. Long time ago the planet was more or less toxic to life as we know it. A lot of life went extinct cause of that... no joke...
However, I don't think we'll be as prolific as trees when it comes to "pollution."

@SgtHydra roflmao
AnarchyDavey 1 year ago
@SgtHydra You would do yourself some good to read a book on ecology. I could spend my time explaining how nature hasn't produced anything it can't recover from, adapt to or fix until human society came about, but instead I'll assure you that the existence of trees doesn't have the same negative effects on the environment that the industrial revolution did.
jrubin68 7 months ago
@jrubin68 Well, you tell that to anaerobic organisms.

Yeah! buildings consume 40% of the resources! Let's ban buildings and all lie outside!.....Wait a minute that's a fucking stupid idea cos we would all be cold!

spicey22 1 year ago
@spicey22 Seriously dude? Ok... cheap energy brought about by the "abundance" of fossil fuels basically replaces human power. If we were to replace all the energy we use (i'm not sure if he said daily or monthly or whatever) with human energy, in the 60's, we would each have 400 slaves... he was saying nowadays it'd be triple or double that. Who's a moron?

maxhole2 2 years ago
Whether its man made or not, the fact that modern western civilization is built, fueled and maintained due to a finite resource called oil means the way we live must change drastically in the near future. Global Warming may be a fraud to create a since of urgency. Otherwise lazy fat asses will continue to eat big macs and watch american idol until every drop of oil is depleted. Then they'll be standing around with corndog in hand asking for help when they should of been proactive.
ResearchKnowledge123 2 years ago 2
I love all forms of energy. I am not an oil expert at all , but what makes you think the earth's oil supply is so limited ? How do we know exactly how vast the oil oceans are inside this planet? The water ocean on top is a measly 7 miles deep at the Mariana trench , but the earth is almost 8000 miles in diameter.
There could be 100 ocean's worth of oil inside ,and it would only be a band about 300 miles deep , out of almost 8000. Possible?
maxhole2 2 years ago
7 of the 10 largest corporations in the world are oil companies. All of them are making gargantuan profits. If a huge pool of oil were anywhere to be found, I'm sure they would have found it by now. They can marshal the best and brightest minds, technology, and science to this end. I'm sure they don't want to see the gravy train come to a screeching halt. Considering we've not heard of such a field indicates that none exist.
ResearchKnowledge123 2 years ago
I hate expensive gas like anyone. But I also know that 70% of that price is government tax of one form or another. So big oil is not the true enemy. And I also understand that the oil companies DO find new oil reserves all the time , and again , government prevents them from drilling to retrieve it .
maxhole2 2 years ago 2
@maxhole2 Governments and big oil are in bed together. Its not like one is better than the other, or one is working not in tandem with the other... you cant let one off the hook and not the other. They are both fucking us.
thatstheguy07 2 months ago
@maxhole2 I think you are missing the point. Regardless of how much oil is out there our current way of living is not sustainable. We can not grow forever. Infinite growth does not work on a planet with finite resources. And to the oil point.. yes we are running out, or hitting "peak". It has been well documented by many of the top experts. I suggest you read, "The Empty Tank" by Jeremy Leggett (world renowned geologist) or "Why Your World is About to Get A Whole Lot Smaller" by Jeff Rubin
martinez85 1 year ago
you are the one who is brainwashed buying the mainstream hype. Fucking moron.
666Octopod 1 year ago
@maxhole2 Your not buying what? That oil is limited? Oil companies wouldn't be drilling offshore if they didn't have to. Look into the Alberta oil sands. It requires so much more energy than the traditional drilling it is ridiculous. Once again, companies wouldn't be doing it if they didn't have to. The fact they are even bothering with the Alberta oil sands shows that we are getting near the bottom of the barrel.

upstart1776 you are a complete idiot.

Ishmael - Daniel Quinn is an excellent way to open your eyes.

oh the irony, that you say all of that, then point the finger to accuse others of being sick and deluded..
YOU are sick and deluded
dusteroo 2 years ago
People need space and place to live, and we can certainly strive to facilitate that with awareness and consideration. Continuing on path of mindless exploitation without concern for those to come after us, we are sending a signal "Apres moi le deluge". Once the resources are deleted, and our life starts focusing on getting the basic needs covered, we will legitimately able to conclude who is deluded and ignorant.
gizmologic 2 years ago
The bottom line is that you feel guilty for being at the top of the food chain. I hav eno such notion. Keep in mind, it was a CONSERVATIVE-REPUBLICAN who invented the idea of national parks and conservation (Teddy Roosevelt). While protecting resources makes you feel warm and fuzzy, it also makes good business sense and is just practical. But I'll be damned if I'm going walk 24 miles each way to work or live in a teepee, and eat roots.
