For goodness sake - this is just plain wrong. The word is comprised of two roots - apo and ptosis. Thus the correct way to pronounce this term is apo - tosis - not a POP tosis.
Granted I don't know what I'm talking about, other than having a degree in neuroscience from UCLA, but my professors always said Ay'-pop-toe-sis, and I'd take their word for it.
