I also worry that the whole "tax the rich" proposal won't be enough to offset it all.

College project management classes teach that NO project is better than a bad project. Reason: It takes huge amounts of time & cost for an organization/govt to dig itself out of a bad project once executed w/out a good plan. 5 phases of a project: 1. Initiation 2. Planning 3. Executing 4. Managing 5. Closing. Obama's projects Initiate, Execute & that's all. W/out detailed planning, execution can't be managed. And close out? Forget it! Such projects will need constant repair. Keep saying NO!

Except few people invest money when the economy is plummeting, the only way to ensure it gets invested is to invest it yourself, i.e. increase government spending rather than hope to increase investment spending.
Theoretically it would work great to speed up a recovery once started, but then you risk inflation.

At this point the republicans have very little they *can* do other than the filibuster they simply can't do anything to stop the dems, so why even have a plan?
I think right now the reps should focus on trying to slow the democrats from their overspending fest that is going to destroy the monetary system.
Seriously, the priority is not to fix the economy but to stop the democrats from making it worse. That's the best we can hope for.

And by the way, about those 49 "top economists" the Murdoch Wall Street Journal wrote about.....HuffPost looked at them in detail and, guess what, almost all of them came out for John McCain during the presidential campaign. McCain, whose economic policies, as such, were nothing more than more of the same Reaganomics trickle-down crap. So much for your WSJ (not unlike, by the way, all those supposed "scientists" James Inhofe talks about...most of whom know nothing about the climate).

Perhaps they supported McCain because his policies sucked less than Obama. BTW: I don't think McCain had any kind of great economic vision, but at least it wasn't the suicide that Obama is pushing for. Spending money you don't have in copious amounts = debt = inflation = currency devaluation = complete economic collapse. His system is borderline socialist.

Preliminary analysis shows that its "tax cuts" headline will wind up making it $300 Billion mor expensive than Obama's budget! Neither party is willing to take the steps needed to reduce the size of the federal government. Outdated federal agencies like the FHWA, established to build the interstate highway system which is now complete, need to be dismantled and consolidated. It can be joined with rail and aviation to make "one" Federal Transportation Authority. Pouring more $ into highways only reinforces our country's dependence on fossil fuels.
More high-speed rails are needed to compete with Europe and Japan

All of the Federal Income Tax you pay, all of it, goes to a bank as profit, on loans to the government. Not one penny is spent on services of any kind, not one penny. You see only 35% of the budget comes from the income tax, the rest comes from other taxes collected by the government. This "bank" I am referring to is the Federal Reserve Bank. Which by the way is no more Federal than FedEx.
It in fact is a private bank. The best slaves are the ones that believe they are free.

Now, to be fair, while its true the Republicans aren't offering any good solutions as mentioned above, I still find it concerning how much debt we expect to accumulate this term. I think most of the programs we have in the budget are noble endeavours, but I worry its going to be too much too soon- in other words, our hearts are bigger than our wallets. I also worry that the whole "tax the rich" proposal won't be enough to offset it all.
