The Virus has more options and delivers somewhat of a bright and clean sound. The Monotron presents a dark and full sound. You can obviously hear the sonic difference between digital and analog. Comparing $60 to $1800, well I must say if you get a Montron you can't go wrong.
It's an obvious win for the virus no doubt about that but personally I think the monotron is still good considering the size and the fact it WONT have nearly as good an electronics circuit etc as the virus, which explains the lack in bass and other things mentioned, put it through some decent eq and I reckon it could sound almost as worthy as the virus, which would be crazy as the price difference is extreme but still its a portable stylophone type synth not a 1k+ synth :)
very cool demo. you make me think how great themonotron really is (especially for the price!!). But.... that old school virus, with its additional functions and polyphony, is a really kick ass machine. I agree with the verdict that the monotron wins when considering resonance. however, to me the difference is like color in a painting. the monotron=a dali. the virus=a van gogh.
Although the Virus is amazing in its own right, I think the little $65 monotron pwnz it as far as analog sounds are concerned. That's only judging from what I heard in this vid, I own neither product. Great video! Thanks for making it.
@Keybern Sorry...i'm just amazed how you could possibly make that kind of call with the audio quality on this video!! I happen to own both (a Virus TI polar) and a monotron, and I can assure you the Virus is FAR from sounding analog. It is renowned for its aggressive digital sound, full of bite. Far from fat, warm, and analog.
@MURDOCKROCK yeah you can get ultra low sub out of it by turning the filter down and pitch but you need to turn up the volume as it's pretty low volume level for some reason.
I love the monotron and get great bass outta it. I prefer to sample it and layer it....

$60 Monotron vs $5,000,000 Virus? WHO SHALL WIN

monotron analog filter is better. Squarewave digital emulation is easy.

Holy cow, the Monotron is a temperamental little critter.

Monotron sound better :o I love these analog distorted sounds

virus sounds false when trying to emulate analog but so pure when going for digital

Monotron owns Virus by delivering harmony rich analog sounds; Virus a bit "dry"...great video!

You ppl. are gonna hate me for this but sorry, based to this vid Virus sounds warmer and more analog. =P
Monotron in other hand is more aggressive.

I strangely perfer the Monotron Reso, but that digitalish Virus reso can pull off one mean suby punch!

very interesting demo ! I'm amazed by the power of the Virus ! It didn't sound any less analogue than the Monotron.
Also function-wise I think the Monotron is due to the absence of midi in, pretty useless.
Thanks for sharing !

@Keybern And how could you possibly claim the Monotron is useless? It's 60 dollars man! Take a look at my vids, its FAR from useless.
