  • What dialects do Chinese-Malaysians speak?

  • @BubbleOfJelly Hi,,, Most of the Malaysian Chinese speaks

Cantonese and Hokkien and it depends which part of Malaysia are they from. Cantonese - Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Johor.. Hokkien/Hakka - Penang, Kedah. Some of them also speaks dialects like Hainanese or Teow Chew.

  • @tom25757 Thanks for the reply! : )! It's nice to know. Can Chinese from different areas of Malaysia understand each other in different dialects? In other words, Is Cantonese, Hokkien, Hainanese, Teow Chew similar? Also, do they often mix Chinese dialects with Malay and English?

  • @BubbleOfJelly Hi... Chinese dialects are different and sound different too. so Chinese in Malaysia in the same state communicatte with each other with same dialect such as Penang- Hokkien, Kuala Lumpur - Cantonese...Sometimes...they do mix Chinese dialects with Malay and English when they speaks.. That's the unique way of Malaysian Chinese when they speak!!! ;)
