  • Are you serious? She actually pulls a whip from......there?

  • don't worry anime fans get it worse

  • It's funny how a video about porn got u the most views

  • Actually, BOMB QUEEN (or Dynamite's line) is not "basically porn". That would mean the books are a platform for sex & nudity. Things are implied in BQ (just like Catwoman) but nothing is shown in any of the 6 VOUMES in print. Granted, there are wardrobe malfunctions but that only applies to the one character, not the series, supporting cast, or the story. She's a villain *not* a heroine. In fact, she's not even human, she's the essence of evil which is why she acts so immoral; it's her nature.

  • @JimmyKitty Yes, but you would have a hard time arguing that that line was designed to do anything other than titillate.

  • it's funny that many of male readers (judging by several comments here) think that females readers are a minority and that rationalizes overtly sexualizing all female comic book characters and alienating female readers -- if this train of (stupid and hormonal) thought continues comic books are going to entirely lose their female readers

Note: I'm not saying the existence of porn comics is wrong. I'm just saying that there's always a proper genre for things

  • the catwoman short film she was pretending to be a pole dancer hat was the reason she had unziped it but after that she did it back up so it was only like that for 2 minutes at the most

  • Garth Ennis in The Boys totally nailed the new darker origin hooker costumes. The new catwoman is great! Sure it is very sexualized, but it isn't porn like those idiots at fox news and anywhere else would like people to believe. Bomb queen is trashbag porn, and a lame book. Catwoman is beautiful drawn, and very feminine. Not some fatass comic artists fantasy of what if there was a woman that was 90 % breats and butt and 10% brain that only thought about sex?

  • Took me this long to notice the phallic microphone D:

  • on the opposite side i remember superboy being in nothing but boxers for most of issue #1 and it didn't bother me and i did not feel alienated, why? because i dont care about what other people think of me and what I read, I buy what I like and I'll be damned if I allow anyones judgement other than my own to decide what I buy.

hawkman also spends plenty of time without a shirt and I, Vampire has both it's main vampires half naked. So why is it only the female bits that are being highlighted

  • there are many genre's out there and in terms of japanese manga one extremely popular and best selling genre is the 'Ecchi' which focuses primarily on half naked women and comedy.

So if one medium can have an ecchi series or televion have there sexy shows like true blood then wtf is wrong with DC having a sexy book or two.

for crying out loud they released FIFTY TWO BOOKS and only 3 or 4 have sexuality in them or fanservice for male readers big freaking deal.

  • Some points I agree with and some points I don't,but I think this was an intriguing attempt to have a balanced discussion. Unlike the Fox news story.

  • to continue, I am sorry female readers feel alienated but I like my cat woman lusty and seductive, because I can enjoy the female body in its most ideal and picturesque form, isn't this what art (comics) is all about? Furthermore I think fox news are simply running out of things to rant about, because other forms of entertainment do far worst.

  • I have to say I disagree with both your takes on the topic of too much cleavage and impractical clothing. I could be wrong but i feel that female comic readers are pretty much in the minority, so why not please the majority (men). When I read comics I do so to escape reality, seeing a female character's cleavage only being barely hidden by a rag to me isn't very shocking considering the subject matter itself is very much impossible to begin with (i mean super humans and what not).

  • Grace Randolph is hott... ;)

  • I am in the wierd part of youtube

  • i dont mind catwoman with her big ass BOOBIESSSSS hahahah :)

  • you know i really dont mind catwoman showng off her cleavage its just part of who she is and having sex with the bat? seems fine after all its just part of her character and to be honest i never seen batman yeart 1

  • Even as a male reader I feel embarased buying a comic with a cover like the one Emma was wearing. Even when I draw comics its just a bit much...leave something to the imagination.

  • of coarse fuck you fox

  • beside woman have other sexy part like the leg the lips or hips why don't u explore that instead of just boobies. there a reason why some flat chest are sexy

  • Wow someone was looking for a story. I think they would faint if they saw what's in some manga. Then again manga has like 20 sub-genres and comic books are just over-killed with popular titles aimed at teenage boys.

  • I think this would best be solved if the characters from all dominant comic universes donned Amish attire and started using the words thee and thou. It would remove the stereotypes and still remain sexy to readers who can remember the movie, Witness with Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis.

  • @THINKAboutTheINK - Good show, but what I've got to ask is - was it deliberate to use such a phallic looking mic, considering the subject here?

    :)

  • I dont mind the sexual crap as long as the story stays good and that it wont turn into a full out sex page after page

  • I also have to agree with the treatment of women in comics. They can be sexy without being overtly sexual but, then again why is that the number one priority? Shouldn't the main priority be the story? Besides, what ever happened to being classy?

  • They have nothing better to talk about. Fox in general sucks.

  • Comics are fantasy telling a fantasy character to zip up her skin tight tights is ridiculous catwoman is a sexual character looks better now than ever and again its fantasy thats whats great about it and that's how 99% of readers want to see her sexy promiscuous and badass and who gives a damn what Fox says they r not even real news anyway and don't know a damn thing about comics or anything else for that matter except for spredding right wing propaganda and lies.

  • @THINKAboutTheINK I Love Catwoman And I'm Not Guilty of Reading Catwoman I Don't Care That Catwoman looks Like She Is Sexy

  • Keep buying Catwoman even though the designs offend your sensibilities... sensibilities that keep you from buying other books (or DVD).

    It's hypocritical, but who cares?!

  • @THINKAboutTheINK "I think she should cover up more"

Um, we are 4 issues in & you are fixating on the 4 pages from issue 1. Every single issue where she is in the costume it is done right up... all bar those 4 pages at the start which you are fixating on. You've fallen foul of a cognitive bias called Belief Bias. Essentially you made up your mind at issue 1 & now your memory is playing trick on you for the rest of the books. Don't believe me, go back and reread all the issues.

  • @THINKAboutTheINK Hey Grace! Loooove the show! Which Batman Trade Paper Backs do you reccommend? I have Hush and year one, but I'm not sure what to pick up next! What do you think?

  • the discussion will be, what are teen agers and, they buy comic books?

  • The new Catwoman look is Black Cat with a mask and without white details

  • jeez im sort of ok with catwoman s new-ish look but starfire is just annoying she acts like a slut and she barely wears anything

  • @mrawsome1488 except she doesn't act like a slut. She just doesn't put a whole heap of emotional focus on sex... There's nothing wrong with that. L\I just love how liberal everyones world view is up until the point someone says "female sexuality" & then suddenly you all turn super conservative.

  • Yeah I don't read comics but I admire that you both are so reasonable in both your defense and criticism of the genre. I love your delivery. Very eloquent.

  • This is probably a very stupid question but how does one actually subscribe to a comic book? Or is that even possible? Do you always have to go down to your local comic book store to pick the latest issues or can they be delivered to your door kinda like a magazine? I tried look on the DC website but couldn't find anything...

  • i get you're point Grace, Normally I like oversexualize characther as long as they have interrresting characther's but Catwoman look's much more sexy in the trinity look covered

    Love this the show

  • Very nice rebuttal to Faux News Grace, Comics as a medium has had to fight a long hard battle for even grudging respect since the days of the comics code and caving into these wannabe Freddie Werthams just isn't an option.

  • very good ep, keep up the great job

  • "Super Hero Tape" Haha! So True. Very good Grace. =P

  • "please zip up, even im tired of looking at u" Lol

the practicality of catwoman's suits has me wondering. the still of Noland's catwoman has her with a big pony tail of curly hair free flying behind her head. for a thief and .."super"person(?), that seems way impractical.

  • Doesn't the comic book world know how stationary and suffocating skin tight black leather is? Why can't super heroes wear clothes that they would actually want to fight in. I know that none of the great assassins of history had the thought of, "Oh tits, I should've worn something sexier." before they did their killing thing...

  • I felt like this book started by favoring sexy over plot which made me really unhappy, but I'm glad I stuck with Catwoman. It's turned into one of my favorite titles from the new 52. Judd Winick is doing a great job with both this and Batwing.

  • I think the Fox News article just sold more Catwoman books. The more complaining that is done about this book the higher it's sales go it seems.

  • With the Cat woman costume, that is Frank Miller for you.

  • I would really like to read comic books but unfortunately we dont have lot them in Netherlands :'( so i realy like this show to get to know all the extra of the comics :)

  • GRACE, are you coming to the IMAGE COMICS EXPO out here in the Bay at the end of February?

  • As Agent Style points out the problem is that so many people still think comics are for pre-teens. Some are, but most are for young and not-so-young adults.

Not to say that the over sexualisation can be too much to bear, as you point out Grace. I have a BIG problem with Emma Frost who in dress and poses just screams stripper/dominatrix. It's icky.

  • Between the Pages is my favorite segment of THinkAboutTheInk :D

  • Why is Catwoman green?

  • Grace, why didnt i know about this Channel??

as a long time fan of Beyond the Trailer and a big Comicbook nerd im honestly shocked that it was so under my radar!

  • Interesting video, I'm guessing by the amount of times 'Game of Thrones' appears in your videos that you're a big fan, I hope you've read the books too, they're more awesome. Also, could you hold the microphone closer to that other guy, its not that it's to quiet it's just he doesn't speak very clearly and I occasionally miss parts of conversation.

    Great video as always!

  • Her-oes will be the first one I look for thanks for the advice and keep up the great work. You are clearly the most insightful and engaging personality on YouTube.

  • The shows on the CW are porn.

  • @Mariusioannesp Well Porn has nudity CW doesn't. Supernatural was not porn.

  • Grace, your laugh is so contagious!

  • i never liked judd winick's writing cos most of them are ridicilous

  • I don't even read comics but I love this show so much.

  • @Grabehn42 That's very cool. :) And that's awesome you tried this show even though you don't read comics!

    - Grace

  • why shouldn't a character dressed in tight leather and a whip be sexual why shouldn't she show as much breasts as any woman on a saturday night why shouldn't DC appeal to that market like it does with war or horror why only superheroes who're appropriate role models women like catwoman because she's sexy and her main character trait is fucking batman there are other women superheroes why does it matter if one "gets her tits out"

  • Clearly fox news was grasping at straws however as the parent of both a teenaged boy and a adolescent girl I struggle with some of the costumes of female characters. (Grace which books would you suggest for a 10 year old girl because I'm clearly in over my head I thought I could get my kids into comics after watching The Avengers Earths Mightiest heroes.) Do adults need quality comics to read yes, but little girls should not have to be made to deal with outlandish portrayals of the female form

  • @Papavoodoo7 Hmm, I suggest going with trades. That way it's a good long read - like a book - and trades tend to stand out for good stories while monthlies often have to rely on gimmicks. I suggest Batman Year One, Superman For All Seasons, X-Men Age of Apocalypse or New X-Men (this features a psychic affair but nothing graphic). As for monthlies, try Ultimate Spider-Man. Also, I did write a mini-series called Marvel Her-oes, which was aimed at her demographic. Hope this helps!

    - Grace

  • @Papavoodoo7

@THINKAboutTheINK Sorry to disagree with you Grace, but I don't really think "Batman Year One" would be appropriate for a 10 year old girl. :P

I am new to American comics but out of the all the comics you listed, Batman Year One is one I have read and IMHO I don't think it would be quite appropriate for a 10 year old girl.

Also as a side note, your show is one of the main reasons why I got into American Comics and am still sticking with them! ^^

  • @THINKAboutTheINK When Her-oes comes out in trade I'm gonna get it because I love you as a hsot and your show

  • @THINKAboutTheINK I know this is late, but I only just discovered this channel. Here's how I see it. It's the Mass Effect fiasco all over again. The media has this ridiculous idea that certain entertainment mediums are for children only. Although, I have to admit sometimes the artists take it too far with the costumes. Having said that, personally I think the whole Amanda Waller thing is way worse anyway.

  • This was really good..

  • @darknewday4d Yay! :)

    - Grace

  • interesting fox just makes me want to read the book even more

  • Pfft, who takes anything from Fox News seriously these days.....

  • There's nothing wrong with implying raunchy sex in comic books. Sex is natural and it occurs in ones life on a daily, weekly and monthly basis (depending on the person.) Considering Catwoman is a sexual character and she's been flirting with Batman for decades upon decades - it's about time they got down to business! Fox News is a joke. Their Republican views on sex and relationships is outdated and has been outdated for at least 60 years. They're struggling for news.

  • I agree I can't focus on story if a character dresses like that

  • Also Fox only gave the book advertisement.

  • "X-Force Sex and Violence" baby!!!

  • I honestly agree with u Grace! Girls in comics have gotten to sexy lately. So either the comic industries need to start toning it down or give us women( I am a girl) more costume changes for males( like Hawkeye's new costume) that make both genders equal. Anyway, great show! Still love the end music! :)

  • Anything Fox News says is wrong, so that's your answer right there.

They ruined Mass Effect 2 love scenes with "Nuuuh alien sex is wrooong".

They're conservatives, of course they'll oppose this, it's liberal, decades ago they'd were saying showing drugs in comics is wrong and comics make people violent, then they said that for hard rock, then video games, they're just a killjoy and they're wasting people's time, so fuck 'em.

  • This needs to be on Tv Tropes

  • Also, I should mention that Vampirella shouldn't count in your "all of Dynamite" thing of porn--'cause from what I've read, in the actual story she is wearing normal clothes most of the time.

  • The funny about wanting Catwoman to cover up a little more? I think she already has. In the new book she actually zips up the costume all the way most of the time, whereas all of Gotham City Sirens had her showing off the girls.

  • Another big problem I have is this, if 90% of the New 52 books (including Catwoman!!!) are for adults, why does DC advertise Lego Star Wars and Milk??? Hmmm... makes you wonder...

  • Who is more sexual Catwoman or Black Cat, they both seem to wear very little and be overly flirty with the main characters.

  • I see what you guys are saying but honestly, if Catwoman's not superhero porn then it's definitely NC-17 or R rating. Fox News might have taken it a little too far and you might say Catwoman is not for kids, but how about Starfire? My problem is that, even though Marvel Adventures and Young Justice are great books for kids, how about 12-15 year olds? Wouldn't they like to be a part of this "NEW 52" era? Wouldn't they love to read Batman or Catwoman?

  • Someone should sett fire to Fox News and give them something to really report on.

  • As a 16 year old guy, I'm beginning to feel insulted. The comic industry seems to think that I'll hate something unless it has sex and violence in it...

  • fox news is a joke.

  • I have to agree that they way woman are drawn a lot of the time is far to over the top. comic companys wonder why more woman don't read comics, but just look at the way they potray a lot of the female superheroes.

  • The news report just shows that people still see comics as something for little kids. still i find it odd that this news story comes out 5 months later.

  • I'm 15 and even I think it's overbearing sometimes. But hey, comic books sometimes adapt to the current entertainment industry, and it's filled with sex. Then again, it's impossible for any of my friends to say "comics are for little kids" when I hand them a Spider-Man comic. ...The Black Cat arc...

  • @epilogue7000 Haha - yeah, Daredevil got kinda intimate - although that was a very one-sided love triangle! :)

    - Grace

  • Grace - You're better than Fox News.

They're being silly. A comic being more than a Sunday comic strip doesn't make it super-violent, a waste of time, or porn.

    Fox News. Pffft.

  • Speaking of Batman: Year One, What we're your thoughts on the film?

  • I totally agree with this, Grace, I found Emma Frost a lot more appealing when she got her trousers costume. I think she seems more bad-ass and sexy when she's more covered up! But Catwoman looks sort of slutty now.

  • I haven't read any of the new "Catwoman" comics, or any of DC's re-launched titles, but I may consider starting someday.

  • Porn in comics isn't necessarily a bad thing. Obviously you've never heard of the Lost Girls by Alan Moore.

  • @BlueJackets100 Oh I've heard of it... That really is porn, this episode is more about how female characters are portrayed in mainstream comics and how that causes the whole medium to be misconstrued.

    - Grace

  • WTH is Fictional Pornography?...The media thinks up the most ridiculous things don't they.

  • Grace, have you read V for Vendetta?

  • @Explod1ngNinja Yes I have! It's not my favorite Alan Moore book, but it's of course pretty good. :) I don't know my UK history quite as well as my US history, which I image detracts from the story.
