  • He made a blog entry about this recently? I haven't gone to his blog in long time, but I remember his posts about this SAME topic in past years, I believe 2-3 years ago. Now, again. Desperate effort on his part, yes certainly re-framing things but to completely mislead. Very irresponsible, I agree!

  • I often see people who consider themselves intelligent, not understanding the idea that there is a power differential between the majority culture and the minority culture (s). Perhaps this is because we are all brought up in a country that propagandizes itself ad infinitum as a classless society in which everyone is equal. However, the fact of the matter is, that power is not allocated equally. Who is in charge of Deaf education? Members of the powerful majority culture, the hearing. Cont.

  • @Banerika, and if any cultural group is to be "blamed" for the disappearance of ISL, it is the majority culture, which has control (power) over the education system for Native Americans and for Deaf.

  • @Banerika You said it all... Hegemony is the one we are fighting against. Our mission is to remove the hegemony from Deaf Education system and have the Deaf Education restored to its rightful place and even promote more languages including North American Sign Language. The problem is English that has gobbled up so many languages around the world. ASL has survived and how could ASL be blamed for destroying ISL. I find that his article is irresponsible!

  • @deafchipmunk, it's not only irresponsible, it's just a "straw man" argument. I see this in many vlogs/blogs by a certain set people who define themselves as "anti-Deafhood." These people misunderstand something very central: that it is the *combination* of prejudice + power that is so dangerous that it literally threatens lives. Cultural hegemony makes a modern eugenics movement possible. Deaf people do not have cultural hegemony, hearing people do. That is what needs to be fought against.

  • I found a solution please go to "This is my response to Mike's article about The Eugenics........ just below my vlog... click on double downward arrows symbol that sits beside my introduction comment. You will see his website address and click on it...

  • Hi David -

May I see the article of Mike McConnell's - link, please? (I haven't seen any of it yet)

    Thanks!

  • @allisonpeace Hi Kat, I tried to put his website address here in the box, but it declined to be posted. I'm not certain of it. I'll try that in a different way. If I find a solution, I'll let you know.

  • Hi, thank you for the rebuttal, I thought it was a disgrace for Mike to write this article.

I cannot believe that Mike graduated from Gallaudet and yet he didnt benefit from there. It is really sad. As for the other followers like Jen, Barry, Ben and a few others, they appear to have some kind of self-hatred or something like that, they think that hearing people know best and have the mentality that we are always wrong and don't know anything. Gee!! When will they ever wake up!

  • @deafmommy I could not believe that he graduated from Gallaudet. And yet he attacks and accuses ASL of everything. Oh well, he is part of a non-intelligent group that cannot accept any progressive way of life. I don't think they will ever wake up. They live in cocoon of extremely right wing fanatics!

  • Good morning Chip, I did read Mike's blog and it is not true fact which I knew about this. Of course, we all truly embrace their Indian Sign Language same as other any sign languages in any countries. I have couple friends who are Indians and we do respect each other's language which it is not a problem. Barry & his friends do not look up how hearing governments control what they think they best for everyone and including us, too. We are not their children!

  • @spiritualwing64 Yes KookyNut patternly attacks and accuses ASL of almost everything. This is part of his fraud agenda! To my best knowledge, he does not attack or accuse English unless I overlooked his other articles. That is a true reductionalism of KookyNut and BS. BS is NOT holism.... BS is using holism to mask his true belief of pure reductionalism.

  • @deafchipmunk....LOL I love to hear you wrote "KookyNut" ....First of all, ASL was learned from hearing person long, long, long time ago. LOL That is how we are embracing our ASL. To be honest with you, Kookynut's blog was some grammar errors and does he understand his own English & vocabulary? Holism is behind the mask which he is collecting herd mentalists (his friends and followers). LOL

  • WHASP- white, hearing Anglo-saxon protestant plays major roles in Republicans. Now I get better schema that KookyNut and his bison herd lose its steam power, they reframes on Deaf people nowadays. KookyNut obviously shot his foot.*muttering -shaking head*

  • @LSmae2 Exactly, you are absolutely right! its WHASP I like that. Yes historically, Republicans with extremely right wing views are as insane as Kookynut and BS. Actually, they have no feet at all... they are all gone long ago due to too many "shots"

  • @LSmae2 Wow. I read somewhere that Protestants, evangelists, and few others tried to control the White House and fought to keep biblical verses in courthouses. In 19th Century, a pastor preached hate against Native Americans at his church in Missouri. He walked toward a Native American and shot him at close range on a hill.

  • Yes, many American Natives were massacred by government's soldiers and even private citizens. Not just Deaf, but also many hearing Native Americans of the Plains used sign language or maybe advanced gestures. I haven't studied their language to see if it has verbs, grammar, phonetic, etc. Where did you find his article? I hope it's not at a popular media like NY Times that impact many ppl.

  • @Salticid68 Hi I am no expert in the field of Native Languages but I do know that ASL is not accountable for the extinct of Native Languages... Its the system and even its English language as well. I tried to put website address but my post comment does not allow website address in this box... not sure why. I will find out

  • @deafchipmunk Hi! Yes, I understood you that ASL wasn't accountable for the extinct of Native American sign language. I didn't say you were wrong. I agree with you. I just like to share some information like many of us do. Happy Summer!

  • @Salticid68 No not at you... just get it out of my chest at those people. I am glad we understand very clear about how it happened. You have a great summer too! Thanks!

  • @deafchipmunk Some Deaf people at Maritime areas in Canada use and read Maritime Sign Language. Mexico is part of North America. I see that I misunderstood you. Lol. Yes, I'm glad we understand.

  • Wow. Very impressive and clear rebuttal. I remember seeing KookyNut at 2006 NAD conf walking around with baseball cap looking down on the ground most of time. That's why he can only see subaltern Deaf and language instead of the REAL COLONIALISTS up there. Thank you very much for taking time for this to educate us all, not just him.

  • @ASLElla Yes I definitely agree with you. His article is no good due to his strange ideological views that are very destructive to the minorities and natural environment. His article is just his own view that is utterly flaw.
