  • I swear, I thought I saw him playing with his nuckles at some point. I, as a bassist, couldn't imagine myself playing this in my dizziest daydreams...

    Truly divine.

  • You so tired. Seems that bad condition.

    But bravo.

  • all these crazy bassists are crazy. unbelieveable how hard this has to be on the double bass since its extremly difficult on cello already!

  • :|

  • REALLY GOOD!

  • ¡Chulada!

  • Most people say its crazy to do something like this, and it is but its also to great to astound and show people that the bass isn't a silly instrument. This is actually something quite incredible, there are not many people in the world who can play Haydn like that on any instrument.

  • I truly can't see the point in playing this piece on the double bass... It ads nothing to the original version, and worse it's almost impossible not to make mistakes.

  • @minasgekos except he didn't make mistakes, and he did make this work. It's exciting, joyful, full of all the wonderful qualities that a good cello performance would contain..

It's better on cello, because everything is better on cello. but this is wonderful, and I've watched it many times with enthusiasm and respect.

  • @minasgekos Did you see the text at the end of the video?? he states very clearly why he did this.. pretty incredible to me. Every time you play a piece, do you "ad" something to the original that makes it worth your time?

  • @CosmikDebris7 yes i did. i still find that the double bass isn't fitted for this movement of this particular concerto. The rest is fine. Paradzik is a superb musician, i'm not arguing about his abilities. Same thing concerning the orchestra behind him.

  • @minasgekos I think the question here is why not play it on the bass?

  • @minasgekos the point of playing this piece on bass is no one has ever done it. he wanted to show that he could play a tough piece for cello, then play it on bass to further show his skill. that is the only point. appreciate it. don't rip on it. and did he make any mistakes? if so i'd like you to point them out to me. and you're right. it doesn't add anything to the original piece. he wasn't trying to. and of course it sounds better on cello because the piece was intended to be played on cello!!

  • @lkarr92 He doesn't make mistakes, but he really struggles to keep up with the fast tempo, so it gets sloppy around 5:30-5:35 (just an example).

Anyway my comment wasn't a clever one (it happens a lot on youtube, and unfortunately it happens to me also) and that was 8 months ago. Now I agree with you. He's super double-bass player, end of story. Cheers.

  • @minasgekos I don't think he planned on playing it that fast at the very end. It seemed to me like the orchestra sped up at one point and it caught him off guard. He was still able to adjust though and it sounded great.

I think that was why he shook his fast at the conductor. Maybe not though.

  • @DBass9994 fist*

  • i bet u wont play the cello concerto in d major. (this was beastly though)

  • Bravo, Bravo!!!! Come to Brasil man! Play to us=D

    Congratulations!

  • great!!!

  • I pooped my pants at 4:10

  • All real men Use German Style Bows

  • Wonderful Wonderful. I'm watching it agian, and it is still wonderful!

    Haydn Too

COMPLIMENTI GRANDIOSI

  • watching this for yet another time. always wonderful, always fabulous.

    God bless you!

  • joyful playing. I love this concerto, I love Haydn... this is wonderful.

I also hope that lost Bass concerto is found...

  • What kind of tunning are you using here, because I can heat that it's not solo or orchestral ? :>

Best regards and congratulations, amazing form me!

  • @pankracy111

Mr. Paradzik is using the high C tuning here i believe. He is playing it in G major therefore with High C tuning it will sound in C major.

  • @yangbass I was wondering how he managed to play this piece in the original octave with no trouble. One of the most impressive displays of virtuosity I have ever heard on bass.

  • 5:19

  • amazing.. especially how he rules his bow.

  • well done, I hope you can publish and edition of this for all of us to learn from.

  • compliments, fantastichno...

  • Bravo Professor!

    With complements from Brazil.

  • wow! q claridad! y musicalidad estoy realmente asombrado primera vez q veo alguien tocando esta pieza en el contrabajo.. fantastico. Ojala yo lo pueda hacer algun dia

    Muchas felicitaciones contrabajista!

  • any bassist who wants to play cello pieces needs to be really good in upper thumb positions. like this guy right here.

  • Dang, i picked the wrong instrument, bass is fantastic *shakes fist at guitar in the corner of the room*

  • Phenomenal!

hope to finish my double bass-piece soon...

it seems the A-string is tuned to G, but i am not sure, as i am not a bassist.

    thanx for posting!

  • Fantastic! I'm very impressed, not only by the technique but moreover by the musicianship.

    I only have one question:

Is the bass tuned otherwise than the usual Mi-La-Re-Sol?

    congratulations again!

  • Near as I can tell, he is tuned La-Re-Sol-Do, with a high C string on top. Even tuned a fourth higher than usual, he still has to play most of the piece way up on the fingerboard. Phenomenal!

  • @pvares yes, the tuning is:

    4th string: La

    3rd string: Re

    2nd string: Sol

    1st string: Do

the pitch of the Sol is Cello's 3rd open string ;) in fact it is tuned a 4th above standard double bass tuning

  • Can you just tune up a regular set of strings a P4 higher, or is he using special set of strings?

  • @joerodgers63 He's using solo strings, which are tuned up a whole step and are much brighter and make the instrument drastically more resonant.

  • Comment removed

  • @triviumlambofgod yes, that's what I said. the comparison with the cello it was just in order to identify the octave.

this bass is tuned in 4ths a 4th higher than a normal bass. Imagine to add another string to a normal bass a 4th above the g (that's the c) and cancel the e string. So it result's that the 1st string of a normal bass is the 2nd string of this bass, the 2nd of the normal is the 3rd of this one, the 3rd is the 4th, the 4th of the normal is taken off.

  • he's much more in tune than many cellists, even great cellists. That video it's just amazing! Words fail me down!

  • great!!!

  • Hope he has a good chiropractor.

  • Amazing.. If only I can play like that..

  • imagine what you would do to a conductors pants if you played that for an adition. hed shit himself

  • astounding...

  • Best DB player today,agree?:-)

  • I had trouble playing this on the cello! I can't imagine ever playing this on the bass (check the right spelling of bass, folks). This fellow is truly amazing.

  • WAWA LIKE JI BA

  • Some good cellist canot play this on the cello as good as him on the base :)

  • Bass? haha I just messing with you.

  • Fantastično!!! Hvala Vam puno dragi maestro Paradžik, ovo nam toliko znači- najgenijalnija moguća svirka na kontrabasu ikad! Poštovanje

  • Блестяще!!!!

  • Magnificent. All the right stuff.

  • Wow.
