  • Wish I would've interviewed him...I actually appreciate his music and understand and respect the movement he is apart of.

  • I wish Q-Tip would scissor kick this interviewer. His tank is filled with sugar and his head is filled with inane questions. Undoubtedly, the worst interviewer ever.

  • "Why should my generation know anything before 2011?"

Holy shit. Bravo for your patience, Q-Tip.

  • Q-Tip is a really cool dude.

  • This interviewer sucks ass. who the fuck are you to ask q-tip if hes still relevant ?

  • Man, I'm so glad that Tip answered his questions! He could have been like "kid, you just don't know what you're talking about." He answered the question with authority.

Kane and Common came from me. Love it!

  • @danibudapest isn't the interviewer sweet?

  • he was talkin about lil wayne when he said just because you say your the greatest doesn't mean your the greatest

  • see Hip Hop will never leave me cuz I grew in the cracks of the 90s and tasted the earyl 00s but real talk last year I went to this joint at the Fillmore it was headed by Wale, J Cole came through John Forte was there and some other cats during break time a screen was rolled down and it showed you graffiti trains and old New York the essence of Hip Hop was there the people near me was from Norway or Sweden and had that old school vibe ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Hip Hop is alive just reincarnating

  • Are You Serious???? "Legend to a Lot of People" 7:17 HE IS A LEGEND TO EVERYBODY GENIUS!

  • I wish I didn't have to hear the end of this interview...

  • omg k so like um wat are your like um favorite artists right now? fuckin idiot

  • Why would you ask why should your generation get into what q-Tip is bringin. He answered it himself: when we have rappers like Soulja Boy and Young Berg. Thats why you should get into q-tip. Cummon reporter you your head

  • qtip lookin like a fag with that hat all coked out

  • @jdmcack quit hatin on his style bitch

  • how are you 20 years old and have never heard of atcq?

    fucking faggot.

  • i'm 14 and i listen to atcq everyday and common too. this reporter is friggin stupid common been out since '92

  • that interviewer is such a fag

  • :51to 2:10 summarized my feelings of hip hop.im just 16 so im not gonna BS and say i know everything there is to know about hip hop but im constantly learning more by going back and listening to the stuff before my time, and its insane how much higher the standards were back then compared to now. im sick of having to dwell in the past to find true hip hop rather than look to the future

  • He dissed Weezy 9:40 - 9:47 like this comment if you agree

  • he is tellin the truth somebody listen please ds

  • @danibudapest : Good point, couldn't of said it better myself.

  • His album; and the music he makes is definitely for me!

  • 1. Biggie

    2.Talib Kweli

    3. J dilla

  • without a doubt one of the greatest

im not black and lately ive been really into hip hop but im not some young noob

im aspiring to rap when im older

Q Tip is a legend in my eyes, he has a great voice in rap, singing, and even talking, so articulate. to me, he is up there with KRS, Rakim, Pac, Big L and Biggie as well as Jay Z and Nas

his contribution to hip hop with Tribe Called Quest is staggering

  • that album was bomb

  • LOL, the interviewer is retarded. Im 19!! and i LOVE a Tribe Called quest. Who cares how old you are lol. I listen to music from the 60's to the 90's. And i wish Soulja Boy would fall off a bridge. You speakin to Q-Tip and dissin him in front of his face.

  • @blackezi3 Good point black!

  • @blackezi3 damn right...that stupid ass interviewer was acting like his generation of music was the shit compared to Q-Tips generation. You gonna say that kind of shit to fucking Q-Tip? Get the fuck out of here. That guy is a little bitch.

  • lmfao tip said he obviously don't do the shit he used to do as a kid now. haha imagine a grown man hoppin trains and swappin bus passes n shit haha

  • Any other artist who was more of a diva would have taken offence to some of those questions!!!!

Fair play to tip for taking it in his stride!!!

  • BIGGIE SHOULD BE # 2

  • I hope you know that Common is a staple of hip-hop in general, just as Q-Tip is, though I'd probably give more precedence to Q-Tip. Common has been around for ages. And though I'm not the biggest fan of Kanye as an MC, you probably, at the very least, like a couple of songs that he's made the beat to, PROBABLY. Maybe every single song you like has NOTHING to do w/ Kanye. But as far as Common goes, he's been around for a while. He's just transcended that age gap. Well, in my opinion he has.

  • @desidynamite786 Yeah man...i wouldn't even consider Common as part of the new shit generation. He's been around since the 90's and he actually has his own sound unlike all the others. He's definetely no Q-Tip but i give him respect. Kanye west may have a few decent songs but the only kind of legend he will ever be is a legendary dick.

  • Tribe Called Quest isn't history. it's some of the best rap you will hear in your entire life. it's just good music.

    this interviewer bugs me.

  • @angryhobo212 It's history in the sense that it's something important that has been, they have released tracks that had influenced the music or art, and therefor they are a part of hip hop history. I don't think I understand what you mean. It was a very good question he asked, and it was provocative, and it's suppose to be. I assume you were referring to his "Why should we listen to your music when we got all of these good artists in our own generation already" question.

He talked like a fag tho

  • @angryhobo212

Of course, it's called TIMELESS music for a reason. 20 years from now some people will still be listening to Bonita Applebum and Scenario.

  • the interviewer asks stupid shit...

    Q tip schooled him ;)

  • Bullshit questions, sharp responses. Tribe for life...

  • "so, why should my generation get into what you have?"

BECAUSE KAYNE AND COMMON SUCK BALLS.

I don't listen to Kayne, I listen to music.

  • aint nothing a jump off im free to like who i want where i want tha prob is you nigres and earhustler think this a game i tried is the evedence check me out you can ask me for your right but ye for me

  • ATCQ and Q-Tip changed my oppinion about hip-hop. Its something tha tcomes from you heart, and mind, not what u see everyday only. Tip is not just a regular rapper, Hes making music not only lines.... I am happy that in these dark times of hip-hop there is still some one who feels about hip-hop who loves making it... Respect Q-Tip, De La, ATCQ, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common..... list goes on...

  • I'm 18 and Low End Theory was the first Hip Hop record I ever bought.

  • the only one u ever need

  • Can't say I agree with that statement, but its a great album and I respect your opinion

  • ha i know but im just trying to emphasize how good it is. i have a ton of hip hop records

  • wow im 12 and I knew more about atcq than the interviewers -_- boooo lil wayne i think we all know who he's talkin about at 9:40 lol

  • Pretty bad interviewers.

  • this is probably one of my favorite interviews of all time. tip comes off as down-to-earth to me and i respect that he's not riding on the coattails of his times with tribe and saying that today hip hop has absolutely no great artists etc.

  • q tip has a lot of great things to say, but the questions are kind of lame. q tip makes the questions sound more open ended than they really were...qtip is great in this though

  • yea he does. he doest seem to put forth with all his intention a solid answer on his opinion of the state of things, but its a better response than it could have been.

  • im 14 and i knoee who tribe called quest are.!

Q-Tip the Abstract poest , Phife dawg the five foot freak, and the one&only ali shaheed muhhamad.!

  • he is a hip-hop legend period. "to a lot of people" its a FACT not up in the air.

  • They really should have got an interviewer who knows what's up man.

Both of them two don't even know who A Tribe Called Quest is wow man.

I'm 21 and I knew a while ago! And that dude is 20. That's weak man. People need to know the history yo.

The Tribe was one of the greats man.

  • What he did was so very influential.. My brothers who are now in their 30's and 40's were playing this at home when thay were 16, 17 years old...it was passed on to me and i say passed on because it was an honor to to have such wonderful and positive music shown and introduced to me...all that, Zulu nation, De la Soul, Guru, Queen latifa and public Enemy.

They were the start for me...And i'm so happy that i'm aware of it today...Sometimes it's about a time and place.

  • sorry HONOUR...

  • i think we all know who hes talkin about at 9:40... q tip with the knowledge as usual

  • q-tip is high on coke. if not then quit fuckin wid ya noze!

  • Wow that interviewer is fucking ignorant, I can't believe Q-Tip sat there the entire interview answering his retarded ass questions.

Give him somebody who's real and knowledgeable about hip hop at least, man....

  • the thing about being 20 y/o is a cop. out. how dare he. they couldn't find anyone better than this?!? I'm his age and i'm all over atcq... ugh... q tips answer was tactful tho...

  • eh... interview could be better. but @ 2:30... he's so right.

  • These interviewers don't know shit. I'm 23 right? and my thing is if i was sittin next to tip i would KNOW HE IS ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO PIONEERED REAL HIP HOP MUSIC. now that being said why don;t they ask better questions???

  • wow that interviewer is madd gay lol.

  • These interviewers are ridiculous. and they're from new york? not a good look though

  • ALWAYS RELEVANT, Q-TIP

  • noooo!!

i want a tribe called quest reunion!

    get a new album out!

bring that true hip hop feel back!

  • thumbs down you think Q-tip didnt get any from her

  • thumbs up you think q-tip banged her

  • sorry i meant 2008

  • the Renaissance is the best album of 2009

  • da fuck dawg? im 18 and i LOVVEEEE all their old shit

  • Q-tip is probably now one of the most influential MC's if you look at the success of Kanye, without Q-tip and tribe u wouldn't have kanye, common, lupe and the decent hip-hop (mainly underground!)

The interviewers didn't really know much about q-tip, a bit weak! Before you interview Q-tip do research, it is embarrassing. Q-tip wants to make a living as he was conned while in tribe by the music industry, then Arista gave him bullshit after amplified, even dilla was conned on that tip..

  • He Talks About The Lack Of Creativity In Hip Hop Now Though He Puts Lil Wayne On The Record..

  • I would call lil Wayne creative. I mean nobody was doing that vocoder $hit b4 him. He really created an original style for himself. Even though its high pitched annoying and nonsensical, u cant call him uncreative. That being said, i hate a lil wayne haha.

  • Not really

    T-Pain trademarked that shit..

  • yeah wayne sucks but dont give him credit for what t-pain did first. wayne himself admitted he bit from tpain

  • Yea your right, others used it before him. But after he did, every single other rapper tried to too. But auto tune was actually not what i was referring too when i said his style was original, i was talking about his actual rap technique. His flow voice and style are pretty original if you ask me, even though, as i said its largely annoying and nonsensical. There is no other rapper that really sounds like him. whatever, idk why we'r debating bad music when we all clearly listen to good music

  • i dislike lil wayne but i dnt hate, and he hasn't created da Autotune shit alot of ppl like madonna use it research it... and by da way i hate da vocoder shyt lmao

  • Roger Troutman, Teddy Reily,...to name only two who used the vocoda to its fullest. Created Classic upon Classic.

The Era has passed, it is a novelty.

The Industry being flooded using the same techniques (not as effective),....Re-Invention? I dont think so, more like un-originality.

(with the exception of Kanye,...who solely used it as a tribute/experment)

  • Comment removed

  • Wayne wasnt the first rapper to use autotune...SNoop was!! They called him gay for that shit for a minute...but when wayne did it everyone else followed.

  • @ricmen1890 yeah, that's true...and actually, they were using auto-tune in the late seventies and eighties....they called it synthesizing back then though

  • @abcdefghjklmnrst .......no they didnt . find me 1 song

  • @rag0o "More Bounce to the Ounce" by Zapp & Roger

  • @rag0o and cher used it too i think...but idk what song

  • im 21 and i know all bout what tip is sayn...but these interviwers were lost....real lost

  • im glad i wasn't the only one who thought the interviewers were lame i'm 20 going on 21 and I know all about ATCQ and its hard not to hear rappers like common, kanye west, lupe, talib etc not give tribute to rappers like ATCQ in there songs maybe they should have done a little more research about their interviewer or found somebody older at least

  • the interviewer needs to hear kanye or andre 3000 give q-tip/tribe credit for being influential.oh and common ain't that much younger than tip.i dug the chick better too.

  • The interviewer is a dumbass.

  • Lol, at about 7:32, when Tip said "Well.....as I kinda said", I felt his frustration with ol' boy

  • OMG! Why should my generation get into what you bringing? Wake up man this guy is only one of a few who is making real hip hop these days.

  • yhheeesss!

  • Its kind of sad. I am glad I am 24 alomst 25. By being a little older I remember tip back in late eighties with songs like Buddy and the dance song he was in the video with a floating head. Tribe Called Quest aka Tip and Phife influenced mad folks like Lupe, Talib, Kayne, Mos Def, and others. Only true hip hop heads not rap folks understand.

  • The song "Buddy " was De la Soul. he was guest on the track. It wasn't just Tip and Phife don't forget about Ali Shaheed Muhammed and Jarobi but he left the group. I'm glad people in their 20's are hip to old skool. it was real shit!

  • Haha, Q-Tip's looking at the interviewer half the time like he's a fucking idiot. He had no business being in the same room with a legend, nevertheless asking him questions.

I'm glad Q-Tip released "The Renaissance" at a time like this, where lyricism has to dominate again in the mainstream.

  • Im 16 and a tribe fan!!

And i thought SouljA boy was only listened to by 12 y.o....

    Renaissance is tight yall.

  • you are the hope in the world that obama was talking about.

  • I dont know about hope..

I just try to listen to the best music I can find. I just downloaded the whole J Dilla discography, couls listen to the instrumentals all day man!!

    Peace.

  • Does anyone know the club that he plays at on Friday nights? I definitely have to check it out sometime. When he's done with the tour, of course.

  • Is this in New York

  • Yeah, I live in New York, so I could definitely catch Q-Tip at a club around here. Wish I could talk to him. I saw Ali Shaheed Muhammad at the Apple Store in Soho one time. I was starstruck when I was talking to him, which thinking back was insane, because he was the coolest cat. Real easygoing. Anyway, Tribe forever.

  • yeah it's in nyc

  • Speak the truth, Q-Tip. Drop some knowledge, baby. One of the best and underrated MCs of all time. Listen up everyone, let's resurrect 90s hip hop; let's start the movement.

  • Yes. 1992 when Scenario came out I was 8 years old and I remember walking back in forth

in front of Sam Goodies when it was at Security Square Mall looking at the cassette tape. Then asking my mom can I please have this tape. Old School Busta Rhymes with Leaders of the New School.

  • To start, I am not against gays, but that guy gave me the willies, extreme gayness showing. He did a really bad job on interviewing QTip and does not seem to know hip-hop culture at all.

  • the guy shouled have check out tribe shit before he took this interveiw lol

  • This interview happened just months ago. Homeboy is 20 years old. Q-tip was graduating when homeboy was born??? Meaning Q-Tip is approximately 40 years old?!?!?!? Nah! He looks 23! Lol! But I guess he is a classic! Looks are deceiving.

  • Im 20 years old n i was on tribe since i was a lil kid where were you at dude

  • I've always known good music when I've heard it, even as a lil' chica in ponytails...so I was always a big Tribe fan because I feel like they're talking to me. Good music does that; it speaks to something deep within, and not only speaks to it, but confirms it, and takes you on a journey to you. When an artist "gets you", without even knowing you, you automatically feel a kinship. U don't have to ask, you just know.

  • that interviewer is a fuckin gay. im the same age as that fool and i know more about hip hop. i think if you truly have soul you'll know whats up. i dont care if the crowd doesnt follow this type of hip hop becaause i rather have people liking it for what it is rather than people liking it for a trend or bandwagon.

  • the interviewers made me uncomfortable too! they didn't do a very good job.

but loved to hear q-tip talk. respected his music, now i respect him! <3

  • Stupid interviewer. I am 19 and I started loving HipHop by listening to Ice-T, Run-DMC and Ice Cube.

How can say he was unable to follow that Tribe music? If I had kids, I'd show them that true HipHop stuff from back then, cause they NEED to be aware of that music.

He's a lazy, ignorant prick for talking about HIS generation.

Either you really LOVE MUSIC, or you are fickle and lazy. That's word.

  • i just feel extremely uncomfortable watching these two in this interview... anyway, glad to see q-tip back with another album... which is a damn good album by the way..

  • This interviewer is a douchebag!

  • Why is this guy interviewing Tip when he has NO knowledge of Tip's discography and what he represents?

  • I agree. He has no idea and should stop ready from cards.

  • that interviewer is super gay

  • he mentions slick rick in top 3 of all time thean talks about material the artist has put out and quantity but slick rick only did one good album the great advenures and maybey behind bars he really has not put out that much material and biggie only had 2 albums whatever man i respect his decision and thats his opinion my personal choice is Chuck D and Black though but I have yet to pick a 3rd the greatest rapper at the moment to me is Blu today that is

  • The Great Adventures of Slick Rick is like a top 5 or 10 all time best Hip-Hop album. He was also apart of this sort of well known single called "La Di Da Di". Maybe you have heard of it!

  • obviously you missed the sarcasm

  • is the interviwer gay?

  • hey guys! i appreciate the comments. im the girl in the video that is sitting next to the main interviewer, ian. i know it's a crazy question to ask TIP if he's still relevant, and even some of the other questions may have beeen crazy, but this interview was for allthatsfab and our demographics include young women from ages 16-25 that mostly listen to pop and R&B and stuff, so unfortunately some of our readers dont have the knowledge of legends such as q-tip himself. as 4 myself i love TIP & TCQ

  • Then your intent should have been to educate your audience. Instead you guys put TIP in the position of having to "sell" his career, what nerve. TIP is to hip-hop what Miles Davis was to jazz, and those who truely appreciate hiphop will inevitabley listen to his body of work.

  • he's defnitely a legend, but you have to admit he doesn't get as much recognition for his talent as he should. not saying that he had to SELL his career, sorry if it came off like that

  • Q-tip 3000.ha haa ha!

  • god bless tip for talkin to this dude. askin stupid questions like why should we listen to you. makin him sound like kanye.

  • Interviewer is corny.. should have let the lady on the side take over the interview.

  • the interviwer fucking moron. stupid questions

  • What's up with your boy nomercy? Mexicano fronting like he's a white boy. That self-delusion may fly down in Mexico but come up to the US and try hanging with some REAL white boys and you'll get treated like Fez on That 70's Show. Up here, we deal with the same racial/ethnic discrimination as Latinos regardless of our color or musical preference. It's a different world up here, vato. We need unity and positive reinforcement. Squash the negativity, homie. You're f'ing up Q-Tips interview. Peace.

  • why TIP look'in like a MTA worker ???

  • Q-Tip was the better half of the 2 front rappers of ATCQ. His voice is phenomenal over a smooth hip-hop jazz beat. As soft as he may sound, he's a bad muthafucka. ATCQ crossed cultural lines and got mad people into hip-hop, in it's truest form. If you ain't digging ATCQ, you don't know the essence of hip-hop, you're bopping your head but you can't feel the music in your soul--with your fake, perpetrating ass.

  • if ur 20 yrs old and you don't know who ATCQ is...you should kill yourself

  • hell yeah how da fuck u not gon kno atcq and u a hiphop interviewer wat a faggot

  • is q-tip straight?

  • is that cos he said he liked to bake? lol

  • nah, its just i've had mixed vibes with his music and with out a doubt he has a very strange voice (and his character). something just aint right nothing personal just the way i view him.

  • him or the interviewer?

  • booooooooooo

  • rookie ass journalists

  • lol

  • What makes you say that?

  • good list

  • this guys sux

  • how the hell is this interviewer nigga gonna ask an authentic hip-hop legend like q-tip why people should care about him?!?!!

  • "You're not the greatest because you say it." I love Q-tip.

  • ludacris

  • Fela Kuti!!! thats Nigeria for ur ass man!!!

  • That album is the thang, son! but the Go New York song was straight up garbage, I hope he doesn't go that way, cos that's some Black Eyed Peas singysongy thrash!

  • Lupe will be up there

  • the girl is hot.
