  • Whens the next one?

  • (I don't know how this helps anyone, I just thought it was cool.) My friends computer set is a PERFECT stopmotion studio. It is a big box, with a computer next to it, so you can use webcams and edit right there. There is a cabinet above us, perfect for holding a cardboard piece for a background. And his house light is perfect. He has about 2 lights in the computer box too, so I can change the lights for nighttime!

  • Where did you get those red lego bottles at 0:27?

  • @TheOtherGuy122 Sorry for the delay, YouTube had a problem and I was unable to log into this account for several weeks. The Lego Bottles are in fact not Lego but Playmobil. I cheated as there is no Lego item like them at the moment. That is why the scale is out, ie they bottles are very big in comparison to the minifigs lol.

  • hi great tutorial

but i was wondering .. any ideas how to make the set darker like it was night?

  • @cheeseyreevies I alot of people do this in post production, using colour filters reducing the other colours and boosting the dark blue colour. You can't really do it in a cheap video editing suite. Difficult question to answer. You could go to Bricksinmotion website and ask around on the forums the guys there may well come up with a better answer :-)

  • Can you help? I have tried Daylight bulbs and they make a really yellow picture and i've seen ones that look bluer than the daylight bulbs but i don't know what they are or where to get them and also whenever i move my minifigure a picture that shows his front side to one that only shows his profile it changes lighting. I don't know what to do and I'm kind of stuck and I'm hoping you can help me get to taking pictures like the one you did as an example in this video.

  • @HarrySandals Hi, the bulbs should look blue in the box, you want Natural Day Light Bulbs, not Daylight Bulbs. The Natural Daylight Bulbs should be available in most DIY stores. With the minifig movement and lighting, make sure that you have the right bulbs and tracing paper over the lamps as per the video this should give you a nice even lighting. Remember if there are other lights in the room the light that falls onto your set when you move your body will move as you move forward and backward

  • Who are the brickfilmers that sent pictures of their studios?

  • @KDWorldBrickPix there were quiet a few and I must admit when I came to edit the film together I forgot who sent what picture so I couldn't match up the studio photo to the contributer. It is basically the main active filmers from the forum Bricksinmotion com

  • are you going to make an actual stopmotion video?

  • @SuperLegoguy99 Yes I have made several they are on my other channel FunnyBoysFilms enjoy

  • where are the rest of the videos?

  • where do you get those lamps?

  • your voice sounds evil!

  • thanks thats really helpful

  • What is the wattage of bulbs that you are using or is the daylight bulb just daylight without wattage specific?

  • @JERRYR708 - They are Natural Daylight bulbs rated at 60 Watts.

  • well i have a green screen that is shinning ... and i got a LOT of lamps and big white papers but the don't seem to work ... help me here ! what should i do to stop the green screen shinning ?

  • Yes you need a non reflective material. You can go to any fabric shop and buy a piece of green fabric. As long as it is a uniform colour and a strong green colour it should work fine. Or you can buy chromo key cloth on eBay etc.

  • Take a look at the film at 2:00 onwards you can see all kinds of lights. You can pick up cheap ones in places like Ikea etc. like the ones at 2:32 these small halogen lamps are very bright and work well. They aren't as flexible as the ones I have, you can't move them around as much, but if you are on a budget they will work just as well.

  • does it matter if the lamp is short PLZ REPLY

  • @DaTinyLegoMan - The height of the lamp does not matter, as long as it gets close enough to brightly light the set

  • do the new tutorials come soon??

its 11 months sins the last tutorial.

    are you stoped making tutorial?

    but it was awesome!!!!

  • Great advice. Nice examples shown from others.

  • Thats it, you really got it at the point.

Very helpfull, Hopefully many beginnres will watch this and follow so they can make really great vids.

  • hey why are thoes lite bulbs called that you have!? please reply

  • This is covered in the film, they are called Natural Daylight bulbs. Now thanks to EU law these will be very hard to find and will soon no longer be available. But if you get the new energy saving bulbs and use the brightest ones you can find, this may work, although I have not tried them yet.

  • Pls make more vids

  • I have two small desk lamps, any lighting suggestions?

  • AS long as you have nice bright bulbs and do your best to follow the advice in the film you be ok.

  • Whta if i just have two normal desk lamps that have large bases? any suggestions?

  • No problem, the size of the lamp base does not matter as long as you still have room for the Lego Film Set :-)

  • Are mirrors good for lighting?

  • Never tried it, but I guess the more items you have in relation to the lighting the more things that can go wrong.

  • Where do you get the lego bottles?

  • Ah now you see, they aren't Lego. That is why you can't find them in the Lego sets & sites. They are in fact Playmobil !!!!!! oh the shame :-)

  • hopefully there will be another tutorial soon!

  • cool, video, but i have a problem. id on´t want to film in the cellar, so i moved in my room. the problem is, that i can´t film at night, so i have to film at the day. but i got a big window in front of my desk, so i moved under the desk and it´s just extempore ...

  • My desk is under my big window too. at time 0:19 you will see the desk and the window. I bought some blackout blind material and stuck it up at the window using sticky velcro strips. Not that expensive to do and cuts out all the light nicely.

  • ok thanx

  • is it better if u film in the dark with ur lamps on?

  • Yes because it is another light source that can can cause problems with shadows etc If you just use the lamps on your desk then you can ensure that you control the light quality/consistency

  • What are those light bulb and paper sheets called?

  • They are natural day light bulbs, 0:48 - lots of companies make them. and the paper is just standard tracing paper 1:39 from any stationary shop.

  • okay, i just bought some light bulbs called "Reveal" by GE i think. and i don't know if they are natural day light bulbs. I got them because my supermarkey didn't have the natural day light bulb name on the pack. Thanks!

  • when comes the next tutorial?

  • where do u find a good tri pod

  • Any good Photography shop will do, or online. Find a tripod that isn't light weight and flimsy. You want one with a bit of weight to it so that it won't move at the slightest touch. I use a Velbon CX 540 they are about £30 (Sterling) so you can work out what that is in your own currency. Or you could get one second hand on eBay if you are on a budget

  • thanks man

  • great videoit helps alot btw r u making a newone

  • i have no lamps!

  • Yeah you really need to save up and get some lamps, it will improve your films no end.

  • I'll bet my life savings 0:30 is a scene for 'The Infected Part 2'

    :D

  • Yes it is, taken from one of the opening scenes :)

  • Cool 0:23 The Infected part 2! Can't wait!

When will it be comming out?

  • very cool studio at 2:11

  • I can't remember whose studio that one was. One of the gang over at Bricksinmotion website (see link in the video comments)

  • where did you actually get the lamps thanks

  • YT doesn't let us post URLs here so I will add it to the video 'More Info' text :)

  • Thank you that helped me so much.

  • When are you going to release the new one? Great tutorial though.

  • Why didn't you say you released this?

  • I am pretty sure I did, I take it you mean on the Bricksinmotion website.

  • I don't remember it, oh well back to your jobs everyone

  • Auh :(

    you didn't use my photo

  • Well I couldn't use all of them it would have been too long. But thanks anyway.

  • nice one! 5/5 =)

  • thx!!

  • nice sets

  • :D a photo of my lighting was there!

very good tut for good lighting, that's sometimes why I don't use many dark settings.

  • wihch one

  • Another great tutorial. It's nice to see that you're working on the foundations of stop motion and not concentrating on Legos/bricks only.

Please mention somewhere in your tutorials the importance of a tripod. Too many people tend to ignore that fact.

    Well done. Peace.

  • Yes, that will be mentioned in the next tutorial that covers cameras and microphones.

  • I'll be looking forward to it. Peace.
